New Man Hing — Restaurant in Nutley

So I’ve lived in the area since I was three (27 now) and my parents and neighbors ALWAYS ordered from this place and it was quite literally the best Chinese takeout (to this day). But that was when Danny was still owning and running the place, he really knew the community and was very much part of it. Ever since the change in ownership it’s still pretty good but nowhere near what it used to be. The quality has definitely gone down. You can tell certain ingredients have now been substituted for cheaper alternatives. The dry crispy noodles that come with the soup are now fried and greasy, they used to be drier crisper and just better tasting (were they baked?? Idk). The egg rolls have a way thicker dough and not as much filling, the fried rice has been consistently under cooked and it’s the really short grain rice instead of the longer grain it used to come with (someone in the reviews posted a picture if you scroll through), the vegetable steamed dumplings used to be DELECTABLE and now they’re just…bland and the inside texture is weird. It’s sad to see because it was really my favorite place. I still treat myself to some egg rolls often but it’s just not the same. I just haven’t found another place that does it better. I'm actually very impressed with this place. We were looking for something on Christmas Day and was glad we found here. What a hidden gem! The food was hot and fresh and not overly sweet or drenched in salty sauce like some of your other Chinese take out places! Heck they even ran a lunch specials on Christmas Day! This has become our go to place for fairly good, consistently prepared Chinese food. The steamed dumplings are better than several other restaurants in Nutley and Belleville. One of their star items is the pork fried rice. It has really good flavor and fresh ingredients like scallions and onions. The combo platters are a nice size and come with your choice of soup or an egg roll. I usually get 2, sometimes 3 meals from one combo meal so there's real value here as well.
