I've been to the Moff cat and animal cafes in Tokyo, so I was happy to see they have branches in Hawaii. Please note that you MUST read and understand the waiver before paying. Reading some of the reviews, some of these customers clearly didn't read the waiver nor do they understand that this isn't their house and this isn't a playground. This is the home of these various cats and it also happens to be a cafe. By signing the waiver, you understand that you will be respectful by not yelling, running, or chasing a cat because you feel entitled to pet it. This rule is equally applied to children when you sign the waiver for them. These aren't toys, they're living breathing animals that get scared and stressed just like us. If parents and children can't abide to the waiver, they may be better off going to Sweet Land Farm or the Honolulu Zoo.
Anyways, I came just a few minutes before noon and I got to see all the cat's have lunch. I was allowed to record while the attendants were introducing the cats and talking about their personalities. The workers really do love and care for all of the cats. After their meal, I bought some jelly that was mixed with cat food and fed them via a spoon I was given. For your safety and the cats, please use the spoon if you're going to feed them treats. Just like any cat, they were all very loveable when I was trying to feed all the cats around me. After the 3rd jar, almost all of them went on their way to play with each other, run on the big wheel, climb the cat towers, or nap in their favorite areas. Lia the British Shorthair chose to groom herself and nap in a cat bed near me. I gave her a little pet and she was very sweet. The rest of the cats were adorable. I was enjoying just relaxing on the bench while watching the cats be busy doing their own thing. One of the workers also gave me a cat wand so I could play with some of the cats. Some were a bit shy, while others were aggressive with it, haha. I was just there to enjoy the atmosphere and pet any cat who approached me. As someone who can't have pets in their condo, this cafe will definitely be a weekly visit.
If you do want to visit, please read the waiver carefully and please be respectful to the cats. We're the ones visiting their home, so we should be...
Read moreIt was the worst experience so far during our family vacation to Hawaii. Would not recommend for family with kids. The floor staff was disgustingly rude with a bad attitude. The front desk lady was very professional and friendly, so I did not expect how unwelcome we were made to feel once we entered. Cats loved my kids, and surrounded us, friendly came around us and rubbing their body on my babies. But the floor staff constantly sighed, looked annoyed the fact that there are toddler and baby in the shop. It game me a feeling that she is one of those stereotypical person who hates kids or maybe all people and only likes cats. This is the place for people and cats to come together. Not supposed to be a place customer to be treated less in value than cats. My babies yelped in excitement when cats came up to them, or my son got scared and rushed to far away to get away from the cats. And the floor staff kept yelling at my 2 year old, and my laughing and smiling 1 year old who was saying hi to the cats, “No screaming! Be quiet!!” And when my son got scared and went away from the group of cats, they yelled at my 2 year old son “stop running!” They were no way screaming or constantly running that is excessive. They were acting as a normal infant and toddler. Then the floor staff told me if my son doesn’t know how to whisper, we need to leave. I told her then why have a policy that allows kids??? How would they expect 12 month old human being to whisper?? Then they should have a policy that says no one under 3. Cats loved my kids and was starting to come around my kids. It would be understandable if my kids were bothering cats or scarying them. They weren’t. I’m so sick of people who have no kids to not understand kids should be treated with same understanding and curtesy as handicapped people because they have limitations to act the same as healthy adults through no fault of their own, and they should still be able to enjoy things as long as they are not hurting or bothering others. Annoying the worker is not sufficient to make us feel unwelcome. The floor worker shut the door on my son with a bad attitude. Disgusting terrible place with disgusting human being working there. Would never go back and would never recommend to anyone...
Read moreSuch a fun experience that my son and I have always wanted to try, we even brought grandma along! These cats are calm, collected, and pretty reserved so don’t expect or be disappointed by lack of pets or playtime. It is their personality, at least from our visit, and you are just there to enjoy giving occasional head scratches, enjoy their company while you enjoy a beverage with friends or family, and to have fun feeding them treats. They offer 30 minute or 1 hour sessions to hang out with the cats.
Upon walking in, they have lockers so put your belongings and they give you a pager to alert you when your time is up, and I feel like it went by so fast cause we were just enjoying the relaxing company.
They offer dry crunchy treats (5 balls for $12) or this tuna gelatin “frappe” treat (3 shot cups for $12). I noticed the cats enjoyed the dry snacks a little more and they raced towards us once they saw we had those in hand. They crawl over you, on your legs just to get them! It’s such a cute experience!
They do have safe spots where you are not to bother the cats; which I appreciated so the cats can set their own boundaries with the amount of human interaction they would like. The cats were all imported from Japan and they were all super soft and doting when they wanted to be.
Definitely a memorable and cute experience and makes us want to try it again when we visit...
