Oh how I love this place! I've learned from past experience that the way to do it is to call in the morning when they first open at 9 a.m. and put in a telephone order for a later pick up time as that line can get really long, and they can sell out pretty quickly. Although for the people in line in the morning who are picking up food for lunch, this tactic may not work. Perhaps call the day before!?
I was so glad that I did call in the morning to order dinner for my boyfriend & I, because while I was in line to pick up my order at 3:10pm, two other people were turned away as mostly everything except chicken was sold out. That's what happens when you love a place that has delicious food and is popular. It can sell out fast.
The duck is so succulent & juicy. Seasoned just right, and the roast pork is also to die for! So flavorful and that wonderful crispy skin on the top! My boyfriend loves the char siu. Oh my, reviewing this is starting to make me drool, and dinner isn't for a couple hours yet. I think I'm going to sneak a piece of each item when I get home, but don't tell my honey! LOL
Edit: While answering questions in Google's Q & A section, I noticed the questions people were asking for Roast Duck Kitchen were more geared toward a "Sit Down Restaurant" type of eatery. The food here is awesome, but it is not a restaurant. It is a "Take Out" place. There is a picnic table outside their shop if you want to dig in right away, however depending on what season we are in & where the sun is at that moment, it could be too bright & hot as the entrance to their shop is not located in a covered area of the...
Read moreSolid, nothing special. DO NOT get duck in a combo plate. Portion of duck was pitiful. The duck was fairly tasty with a five spice kind of seasoning and tender. Half of the pieces were just ribs with no meat, just skin. In CA there are probably dozens of places on par or better than this location. Roasted pork was solid but again nothing special. Salty. The gau gee, meat in the deep fried batter was interesting. First time having Gau Gee 😀Overall I would probably eat here once in a while as a local, but not really worthwhile on touring. I’d eat elsewhere.
This place is a little shop located on the 2nd floor right at the top of the escalators in the complex above the market. Also the lady at the counter was rude, but often customer service of people from other countries is like that, just worth noting, not factored into my rating. They ran out of duck and roasted pork by 1pm so...
Read moreI heard about this place from a coworker who claimed it was hands down the best for roast duck and roast pork. I went there on Thursday during lunch and the line was out the door. Inside the shop, it was like standing inside of an oven. They were out of char siu so I got a pound of the roast pork. The woman at the register just kind of takes everyone's order and then calls you up to pay for it once its ready but then sometimes makes you pay for it before. Its all very crazy. After about 10 mins I had my order and was on my way back to the office.
Once I got back, I opened up the container and took a bite. I was in Heaven. The skin was so crispy and meat was juicy, soft, and full of flavor. It was easily the best roast pork I have EVER had in my life. My coworkers had their char siu fried rice and reported that it was very good too.
I need to get back to...
