Island Cafe — Restaurant in Oak Harbor

Since the owner has requested an explanation for the low rating... and, by the way, I was actually generous with it. The server was nice enough, the food was about 4 stars (many of the fries were burnt or just hard all the way through). The biggest problem was that someone called the police to report dogs in a hot car with no ventilation or water. I really don't appreciate people who waste the time of the law enforcement on BS reports. The officer came to our table just as we were getting up to go. (SIDE NOTE: My daughter had gone out to check on them while we were there and we were there for a total of about 35 to 40 minutes.) He went out and witnessed that the rear windows on the caravan were fully open, both front door windows were down at least 4 inches. There was not one but two bowls of fresh water. He checked the dogs to see if they showed ANY signs of being overheated on the 78 degree day... there were NONE. We discussed our frustrations with people who make false reports from our perspective and the law enforcement's perspective. Unfortunately they have to answer every call, just in case there is foundation. More often than not, there's no reason for the report and possibly some other IMPORTANT LIFE THREATENING ISSUES THAT MAY BE MISSED because some busybody decided that if the dogs are barking that they must be in distress. DOGS BARK. It's a fact of life. Get over it! And, yes... Dear Owner... it was one of your employees that called. I've been dining there for 16 years... back when it was Pot Belly Deli... and I will NOT be back! Oh, and I will recommend that my friends seek out other dining...

Update: Beware! I was asked by management/owner to call and talk with them to get more info on the situation. After hearing what happened the manager agreed that we were over charged and certain things should have been rung up differently. He admitted the staff helping us that night was still "new and learning" and apologized for the inconvenience. However, they did not refund the money they stole from us. They didn't offer discounts, or a chance to make it right. We were overcharged massively and even though they admitted it, still didn't make it right. Beware!

What a rip off.

I just moved back here and I loved this place before. I was so excited to enjoy dinner with my family. But this was terrible!!! Food was 😕 they definitely don't know how to make a good milkshake.... tasted like flavored ice and watery milk.... Service was ok but nothing great. They charged us 6.99 to put the sausage that came with my meal onto a separate plate. I requested a scrambled egg with cheese and 2 sausage links to go with my son's french toast so they charged me $18 for his kids meal which is more than an adult meal with a lot less food!!! I asked for 1 piece of wheat toast with my food and they charged me another $15! When I complained and asked them to fix my bill they refused and finally removed the $6.99 charge but "the rest was valid" and they were "sorry about my misunderstanding..."

We ended up paying over $200 for breakfast for dinner.... And it was so not good at all. I highly recommend everyone go elsewhere... There are much better options on and...

I have been to this Diner a few times while on the island and I must say each time has been progressively worse. From the cold pot roast special to the worst breakfast I've ever had I don't recommend going here. I ordered two fried eggs over hard and what they gave me was to what look like scrambled eggs as it appeared that the eggs were already in a bowl and getting ready to be scrambled and so they just dump them out onto the fry and serve them as fried eggs the potatoes or the hash browns were more like the consistency of mashed potatoes they were gross. The bacon was cold and old. From the picture here you can see that the only thing I ate was the toast and that's probably because they didn't bake the bread there. the glass of orange juice or alleged orange juice that I paid over $3 for was nothing but artificial Sunny Delight juice cocktail. They are ripping people off with this artificial juice. As this as all of this is not enough I must add that I was a solo Diner and I sat at a two-person table not once did any of the waitresses asked me if I needed anything else not once if they come and check on me they just kind of stared at me like I was crazy for not eating the breakfast I will never go back there again and I will tell everyone not to go there eitherI do not recommend going here unless you like to be...
