We ordered a breakfast platter w biscuit, eggs, grits and bacon, as well as the crispy chicken biscuit. Iâll start by mentioning that the staff was very kind and helpful, decent wait time for a Friday morning in June. However the food experience really disappointed me. Made me wish there was a Waffle House on the island because they make a much better southern breakfast. One biscuit was dry and hard while the one with the chicken was soft and totally crumbled when I picked it up. The eggs had no seasoning on them, not one item we ordered did. Sadly the gritsâŚ..were very watery and so bland. Huge bummer. Grits should be creamy, once youâre done cooking them itâs impossible to season them right, so making sure theyâre seasoned while preparing them is important. The âcrispyâ bacon was soaked in grease, limp and soggy. My chicken biscuit was clearly a frozen chicken filet, which is okay but it was low quality and a strange shape, again not seasoned. Finally our iced tea was very weak and pretty bitter. Itâs clear to me this restaurant is run and owned by northerners trying to capitalize off southern culture and truly failing. Will the masses of people traveling from the north and Midwest enjoy this food? Based on a lot of the reviews, Maybe. Will southerners who grew up eating this food enjoy Fixinâs? I really...
Read moreI have read the other reviews and have finally gotten the chance to try this new edition to our Oak Island community. I saw two negative comments that seem very off-base considering my personal experience here. And I will interject this⌠at any point that you go to review a place PRIOR to giving the management an opportunity to understand what could be a mishap, the fault lies on the customer not the restaurant. Anyway⌠I was so excited as a Southern girl to try the Chicken and Dumplings, and I was thrilled over the flavors and REAL chicken (if that makes sense lol). These are not the pour out of a can shredded chicken/doughy dumplings cafeteria style âchicken n dumplings.â These are the kind I no longer have time to make like grandmaw used to. The biscuit on the edge was a great touch! I also had the veggie special, grilled zucchini salad. Very tasty! We could not say no to the banana pudding on todays dessert menu. I even got a bite of the hubbyâs strawberry shortcake! It was a delightful surprise showcasing their specialty way of making a traditional dessert. You must try it! We look forward to being regulars. Next on the listâŚbreakfast! Great staff! Owner was very engaged with all the customers while...
Read moreThis place was absolutely amazing. Though they were busy, they were moving very efficiently while still taking time to provide excellent service with a warm and welcoming quality. Everyone we interacted with from the host, servers, to the chef himself (who stopped by our table and personally checked on us with the most genuine smile) were very friendly and helpful from the second we walked in the door throughout the entirety of our service. The food and atmosphere are humble, simple, and classic. It was not overpriced by any means, but very well done. You can tell that the kitchen takes great care in their dishes just as the front of house takes great care of the guests. We loved everything we ordered and it was a huge deal for me they have EXTENSIVE GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS. I was so so happy that for the first time in years I could order biscuits with sausage gravy. I would have been happy just to have the option and don't expect gluten-free baked goods to always be perfect, but when I took my first bite I was nearly brought to tears. Can't wait to go back to OKI just to...
