Poor Phil's Bar and Grill is a lovely neighborhood go to spot for a voluminous beer selection and barfood.
Inside, there are multiple TVs with sports for viewing throughout. The padded bench styled window seats provide a good vantage point fun for people-watching inside and out. Dined outside and felt a bit neglected by our server. I felt bothersome trying to wave down staff for drinks... nevertheless, you can enjoy food and beverages al fresco. Poor Phil's is a few blocks from the Green Line or Metra, so hearing the hustle and bustle makes for great conversation.
Poor Phil's beer selection on tap and bottled is far more than adequate too. The Happy Hour Menu is a great deal from 4-6 pm with selected half off apps and $2 fresh shucked Oysters. Although limited, the app prices are easy enough to try a few at a time. Depending on the day of week there are three beers and one cocktail special for only $5 each. Normal seafood pricing is a little high for the portion size but is fresh and flavorful. Poor Phil's Bar and Grill hits the spot for cold brews...
Read moreThe bartender (Kim I believe was her name) made our group very uncomfortable to the point that we felt we should leave. We ordered a round of bloody Mary’s non spicy with our very nice server (Aidan). The bartender says “you making me work early”. Our group laughed and my husband said jokingly “ya sometimes you gotta work”. She got mad and stormed off and said “wow!” We apologized and let her know he was just kidding, but she said nothing. With that we saw her behind the bar ask the server if the bloodys were non spicy and he said yes. She then made a weird face and poured so much hot sauce in the drinks. Very rude and unprofessional.
I am giving 3 stars because the food was good and Aidan was so nice and reassured us not to worry about her after we apologized. If I could rate 0 stars for Kim I would. Her lack of customer service skills and rude personality changed our groups entire mood and opinion...
Read moreRecently moved nearby and wanted to take my family to try it out. Atmosphere was great. Clean. Nice mixture of old and modern with a Chicago+new orleans/european style feeling. Menu was awesome, especially if you enjoy seafood. And the beer and cocktail choices were great. My little brother got the freshly made milkshake and loved it. My mother is picky with her shrimp and chicken eating , and she approved of her menu selections.I tried the lobster quesadillas and omg!! My hubby typically isn’t a seafood fan, but he enjoyed his salmon burger. From the appetizers to the entrees, everything was delicious and you get more than your money’s worth! Food was pub-like but elevated and didn’t taste greasy or like it sat in a freezer before being prepared. Our server Bin-Bin (cutest name ever!) was friendly, patient, and accommodating. Definitely recommend and definitely will be back, this time to watch...
