I visited the Orlando location today, excited after many positive experiences at the Old San Juan location. Unfortunately, my experience this time was bittersweet.
We ordered several dishes, and while the food was okay, there were some service issues. I understand they recently opened, and it might take a few weeks to fully settle in, which is acceptable. However, one of the dishes, the surf and turf, arrived after two of the four people at the table had already finished eating. We were told this was due to a shift change, and while we were understanding of the situation, it was disappointing.
We stayed and wanted to order flan for dessert, but the server took so long to come back that we decided to ask for the check instead. It took another 20 minutes to receive the bill, and when we went to pay, we were informed that they do not accept American Express. This was the last straw for me. In all the years I’ve lived in the U.S., I’ve never encountered a restaurant that doesn’t accept American Express. I understand this is more common in Puerto Rico, but I didn’t expect it here.
This was a business dinner, and the only available business card I had was an American Express. I ended up having to pay with my personal debit card, which was unacceptable. When I questioned the server, she explained that they used to accept American Express, but after an issue where a previous customer paid with it, the restaurant had the money taken back from their account, and they charged the server for it. I’m not sure of the details, but this sounds like a chargeback due to poor service. Unfortunately, it seems the restaurant is punishing all customers because of this incident.
Overall, it was a disappointing experience. I hope they improve their practices in the future, and maybe I’ll consider revisiting and...
Read moreThe hostess was a sweetheart but it went downhill quickly. The waitress took our drink order, 2 waters, passion fruit juice and my daughter (who was visiting from out of state) ordered an alcoholic drink. When the waitress brought our drinks she forgot a water. We ordered appetizers, chicken empanadas, beef empanadas and fried queso. Appetizers were cold. I have never heard of cold fried queso but we didn’t complain. We ate our appetizers hoping the food was as good as the reviews we read before arriving. I ordered the mofongo with skirt steak, my daughter had surf and turf, my son ordered churrasco with mofongo, my husband pork chops with mofongo. We waited, waited and waited. The place was freezing, I got up asked the hostess to put the AC up, she graciously obliged. After 45 minutes the waitress came over the kitchen was backed up bc of the “rush” At this time I reminded her I was still waiting for my water???? We didn’t know what rush she was speaking off. When our food finally arrived we were super disappointed. My steak and my daughter’s steak had too much pepper! My husband’s mofongo was dry. The only food that was edible was my son’s. We didn’t want to complain so we asked for the bill. When we received the check there was a 15% gratuity already added to the bill. It’s a good thing I didn’t see the check till I got home bc I would’ve given my review in person. Very disappointed and I’m sorry I took my daughter...
Read moreNice location, corner of OBT & SandLake Opening weekend so expected somewhat of a wait however wait ended up being 1.5 hours because they were waiting on a specific table to leave since we were a large party… when they could have easily held two smaller tables to accommodate.. obviously some learning pains.
Our server was delightful, however seemed overwhelmed and did not quite get our orders right nor did she truly check in on us. Food was delicious, I’d have to say 8/10, chicken in one of the mofongos was undercooked and the tostones did not look or taste appealing, they were soggy and unseasoned, perhaps they were air fried and premade? Anyhow, churrasco was delicious and I would definitely return for that alone, the salad was ok, beans delicious, arroz mamposteao had great taste but was slightly undercooked in some areas, flan de queso was good. A lot of the appetizers were either out or smaller than expected and the cuajitos con guineos were a little disappointing, while the meat was tender, they were on the watery side, loosing flavor- they came out with tostones instead of guineos and server had no explanation on why…
Based on size of the restaurant, I’d consider turning the music down a bit during that typical “dinner” rush but overall not bad and great variety. Would return and hope to see them a little more...
