When arriving there was only a few other customers dining. We were seated right away. The service was robotic, how many will you be, right this way, hand gesture to sit, and gone. Next the waitress came about 6 minutes after seating. Again robotic service but this time with a bit of a language barrier, something I would expect at a French, German, Mexican, etc style restaurant. What to drink, okay, okay, you have ID. My daughter got chocolate milk, my fiancé got lemonade, and I ordered a Bloody Mary. I’m 34 and still was requested to provide ID. Which in some cases is understandable. Problem is I didn’t have my ID on me and I really wanted that drink. If a 50 year old man didn’t have ID it wouldn’t matter because he wouldn’t get IDed. I’m absolutely certain I don’t appear to be 20 or younger. So she asked for ID I said I didn’t have it she said okay then left. My fiancé figured she’d come back with my Bloody Mary but instead she returned with drinks for my daughter and fiancé and again asked if I had my ID. I said no, again (like this miraculously was supposed to change). What to drink? I ordered a Mountain Dew. We don’t have you like mellow yellow. Yeah okay mellow yellow it is. She returned shortly with my mellow yellow then asked what we’d like to order. We ordered the buffalo chicken tostadas appetizer. My daughter ordered chicken strips and mashed potato. My fiancé ordered chicken asparagus carbonara. I ordered a build your own omelette along with three sides of guacamole sour cream and salsa. After about 5 minutes our waitress returned asking what I’d like for a side. The food came out promptly and was not too cold nor too hot. My daughters chicken strips were as to be expected. Her mash potatoes on the other hand were instant potatoes at tasted strongly of butter and salt with no noticeable potato taste. My fiancé pasta was alright, thick in sauce, almost soupy. My omelette was good and all sides were served. However the chorizo was more like Italian sausage than anything. The toast however was burnt on one side and very lightly toasted on the other side. The tostadas came on a bed of Caesar salad and unfortunately the salad was better than tostadas. The tostadas were simply bland. When our cups were empty one cup was refilled and the other left empty until about ten minutes later. This was the performance of the supervisor if not manager. She asked how everything was then proceeded with the refill. After we were done eating we didn’t have to wait long for making payment and to go boxes. Our waitress said nothing apart from asking us if we needed to go boxes and telling us we can make payment when ready. We gave a $5 tip. She later took the payment and returned with our receipt and said nothing. When we got up from our seats another waitress thanked us for coming and wished us a good day. Overall the wait staff was fast and friendly but in a more robotic manner. The food was mediocre at best, and did not live up to its value. If the prices were lower I’d say the food was as to...
Read moreI came here yesterday with my family and friend. We go here for their Wednesday sushi & wine deal. We haven't had such poor service in a LONG time. Our server was nearly non existent, he brought us filthy wine glasses, my mother's was the worst-full of fingerprints & lip marks. We asked for our server to swap hers for a clean glass, he felt the need to inspect it thoroughly in the light and acted as if we were being unreasonable to request clean dishes or as if our judgement wasn't credible. Sorry but these glasses were obviously disgusting upon a glance and a blind man could've detected it. The glass he brought back as a replacement was somehow even dirtier. I brought it to the bar and again requested a clean glass. The bartender pulled glass after glass from their holder (evidently they were all pull away filthy). The bar tender finally found one that was somewhat acceptable and wiped it down and I returned to my table. They were out of honey biscuits they give you before your meal- which was a minor detail made more frustrating due to such poor service. We waited forever for our waiter to bring us waters for the whole table, my mother went most of her meal without a refill on tea after requesting more than once. Our sushi finally arrived and we couldn't eat it as he hadn't brought us any plates, mixing cups/chop sticks, or soy sauce for it. He dropped the food and left so we got the next table's waiter and had to ask him for dishes. I ordered a sundae for my child and it came without the whip, it was just ice cream & chocolate sauce- I asked for whip on the side since it was missing, he inspected the menu as if I was lying about it before he left to bring us some which took another 10 minutes. This was the most disorganized, irritating, and challenging I've ever experienced a waiter to be. I'm not sure what the deal was or why he had such a weird attitude to our basic requests to have clean glassware, dishes/sushi condiments to actually eat our meal, and to receive what we'd ordered and were paying for. It was a mind boggling experience. It was the first time here for my friend joining us and I can say it certainly didn't impress and I was embarrassed to have...
Read moreMy husband and I went to have Mother’s Day brunch at the Oakdale Hy Vee restaurant this morning This was definitely the worst buffet brunch I have ever had. First- it was $50 for the 2 of us. We were given a nasty orange drink instead of real orange juice - and she only filled the small glasses a little over half full. The buffet was extremely lacking: biscuits and watered down sausage gravy, soupy cheesy potatoes with onion and bacon bits, greasy soggy bacon, sausage links, extremely dry AND cold FAKE scrambled eggs with hard melted cheese on top, a small bowl of assorted fruit, croissants, small apple pastries, donut holes, ham and over cooked prime rib. No muffins, toast, bagels, English muffins, pancakes or french toast. I’ve had better FREE continental breakfasts (with more variety) at hotels I’ve stayed at. Then, we get to the booth that has a sign on the table saying that it’s been sanitized for our safety. There was food on the napkin holder, on the wall, on the seat, and smeared all over the back of the booth. (I have pics). We asked three different staff members for silverware - and were told by each that they would get us some, but no one ever brought us any silverware. We ended up grabbing some plastic utensils. Please note: these people were NOT busy. There were only 2 other tables with customers in the restaurant. We left without finishing even one plate of food. My husband went back to grab some more of the spiral ham (it was really the only thing that wasn’t half bad). He stood there waiting for over 5 minutes, but the employee who was supposed to be there carving the meat did not return - so we just left. All in all: I would definitely NOT recommend Oakdale Hy Vee Mother’s Day Brunch. Ridiculously high price for the lack of variety and poor quality of food - not to mention, the utterly horrible service. If we thought they would have given us our money back, we would have asked. Needless to say - we won’t be returning. Just incredibly...
