Not having been here before. Today I had one pre pack bag of corn one Milk 4 apples and 1 frozen turkey meat. I went to the sweet potatoes. I was about to place one in my bag when a very tall gray haired thin older man with glasses came up to me and found it necessary to scold me for not putting it in a plastic bag. I told him I don’t have a plastic bag just a bag (I brought from home with me thinking they don’t have any) He said getting louder. Your bag must be on the bottom. You need to put what you have in a plastic bag so we can see what you have. I said again I have no plastic bag and put the sweet potato back. He then raised his voice very loud to me and said those are the rules we all have to follow rules. On way out I saw a younger helper lady and I pointed to the man who tried his best to make me feel foolish and told her that man is mean. She asked how so? I told her what happened and she said you are not reasonable for not knowing that and the bags are placed in the front of the cart by the helpers. I of course was missing mine it was busy so I can see it could have fell but I didn’t see it. She thanked me for telling her. That man has no business being a up front helper. He could have offered me a bag or showed me where to get a bag and how it works with “ rules on bagging “ or anything other than what he did. His help I’m sure is to watch for over picking. If he thought before he spoke he could have seen what I had and been just that a helper. He seemed to be in his own world of self importance or looking at getting for attention from those around him by being loud and unhelpful. Perhaps tell people the rules upon arrival and post it loud and clear so he doesn’t feel the need to be loud and...
Read moreI was happy to find this place as I don't drive very hard to go to when I live 20 minutes away and I went today and last week but as someone that's disabled may not look it but I am and also don't drive so I get a ride to there but asked if I could sit inside as others were the guy handing out pagers is so rude and said it's only for disabled people so I said I am but had to wait outside freezing for over a half hour which is disgusting no heater outside but yet all these people with kids were able to stay inside that's bull ,then as I have a bag I put in the cart he got mad and yelled saying don't put my bag in the cart ,also very limited of anything as I had last week a sandwich and few things then today there wasn't anything besides fruit as people need meat like as I thought its thanksgiving week but nothing for that so I'm very disappointed in wasting almost 3 hours to get there waiting to get in then going home,so hopefully people check before taking a long ride to there as I and others that don't drive hard to find places then even worse for people like myself disabled low income and find out how little amounts of food that you have to go daily just to get enough hopefully soon the Maplewood location opens soon so i can get...
Read morePeople generally think I am Mexican because I am a light skinned, dark man. I spoke to the manager at this food shelf, who is also a light skin, dark man.
I made a suggestion of spacing out the coolers to create a more efficient shopping area for the volunteers and the clients.
I ended up getting lied to by the manager manager a minimum of two times which I verify with photos on the food shelf, Google page
I told that man when having the conversation with him that this is not a retraining situation for him, I would demote him. Unfortunately, I am not that man’s boss.
I have been told by a volunteer at that food shelf that management has distain that man.
Inconsideration of the incredible volunteers there, it is abhorrent that management has such an apathetic stance on an improvement that would create so much value and utility at such a low cost it’s almost negligible, and would be so simple to implement that it could be done and under an hour But yet they refused to make the change.
This view into the inner culture of this food shelf, I am confident this is the tip of the iceberg.
I feel bad for...
