Amazing restaurant! One of THE best places to eat for breakfast, brunch, or lunch in the Gainesville area.
Incredible food for the price! All prepared with love and attention. The breakfast tacos ( more like burritos ) are well worth the money! Especially the steak egg and cheese for $5!
The breakfast enchiladas are unique and delectable. Basically an enchilada with scrambled egg, cheese, and meat depending on what one you order.
If you order a plate breakfast, not a taco or sandwich, you get a generous portion of refried beans, potatoes, or rice. Any time I'm near Haydees I make sure to stop in and eat as they have more than earned my business.
The fresh handmade tortillas are a treat and I could just eat them as a meal. The red salsa provided on the table has good heat with a nice garlic taste. The green salsa pairs well with beef and milder compared to the red salsa.
The staff is incredible. They're extremely friendly and on top of their game to ensure you are well taken care of during your visit. Even if you are just getting food to go, they are super sweet and conversational.
The restaurant is always clean and orderly. Even when it's bustling with customers, they keep it top-notch clean, all the while attending to the patrons dining in at the same time.
The only issue I have is parking, it's a small, tight lot and depending on when you visit you'll struggle to find parking. When you do visit just make note of the time and the parking lot, so you can avoid busy times and slip in and out for a meal.
If you're in the area, I definitely recommend them if you enjoy good home cooked authentic Mexican food. I can't rave enough...
Read moreI think it's very important to serve good chips, it's probably the first thing the customer eats and the first opportunity for the restaurant to make a big impression. Your chips were cold, thick and probably purchased instead of made freshly in-house. I thought the red salsas were very good, I especially liked the red salsa in the squeeze bottle. I had chile verde, it was fine. I like it when the meat is browned before it's cooked in the sauce, it imparts a deeper flavor in my opinion. Your version seemed that the pork was cooked in the sauce without browning first. A lot of cooks do it that way, it's okay, it was tasty but not excellent. The refried beans were excellent however. The rice was average. I ordered the fresh made tortillas, they were very good and tasted like fresh masa and cal. My folks shared tacos, they loved them. I ate their beans, really good. It was a good lunch, three stars is not a bad review. I've been eating Mexican food for 50 years and maybe two or three restaurants in all those years would rate five stars. You have a good little restaurant, keep striving! I've spent my life working in kitchens, vineyards and wineries in California and Arizona with Mexican men and women. I liked the market next door very much, nice looking clean meat and Mexican ingredients. I'll be back next time I'm in town.
Hope this is taken with the right...
Read moreAuthentic Mexican, not a chain. I like the breakfast the best. They are open early. Expect a bit of a wait while they cook your breakfast for you. Lots of choices. Huge portions!!! Very friendly service. House made corn tortillas. Also great tamales. You can dine in. It is very casual or call ahead for a takeout order. Very friendly service. Bilingual staff.
Please note: I am not complaining about the wait. It is meant as a compliment that they cook your meal to your expectations. In general, I don't eat out for breakfast. It is no big deal to me to prepare eggs. Haydee's breakfast is a treat!. I don't prepare fresh corn tortillas and am often too lazy on a work day to make fresh salsa. It is a great place to dine alone, but if you take friends you can taste more dishes. I avoid most meat so my friends that crave it can get wonderful chorizo with their meals. If you are in a hurry there is a drive through windows at Curt's restaurant within a mile down the road. You can have your biscuit and/or breakfast ready when you get...
