My wife had a procedure today that required her not to eat. She's diabetic. So when we arrived about 1:30 it was urgent that we got some food in her stomach. The hostess explained to me that they don't seat incomplete parties, and we were waiting for our son to join us. Although I'm recently retired, I worked in restaurants my entire adult life. I understand the need for rules, but I know that sometimes you have to make an exception. Generally speaking, I don't like being that entitled guest that feels he deserves special attention, but I asked to speak with the manager. I explained the situation to her. The dining room was not busy, and I promised we would make it worthwhile for the server. She hesitated for just a second but told the hostess to seat us.
Our server was a nice young lady named Jenny. She did an exceptional job. I asked her what was the best appetizer, and she gave me a couple of suggestions. We settled on the crab cake. I explained to her that we needed to get some food in my wife's stomach right away, and we added on a jalapeno cornbread a minute or two later. Again, the restaurant was not busy at this time, but both appetizers were out together in less than 5 minutes I would estimate. Really quick. The crab cake tasted as if it was 100% crab with no breading. The sauce that came with it was fantastic, I'll bet homemade. I am a yankee, and generally I don't care for cornbread , but this cornbread was exceptional. It must have been baked today.
My son had a little neck clams as his entrée. They were the bomb. My wife had the boil for one. It could have served two people in my opinion, also fantastic. I had the shrimp tacos. Outstanding.
I grew up in a very landlocked area far away from the sea. As a rule, I don't need a lot of fish or seafood. I'll make an exception for this place. We will definitely be back. We had so many leftovers that Jenny had to give us a quarter size hotel pan to take the leftovers home, and a box. It was my responsibility to carry out the to-go food and frankly I forgot it on the table. Jenny brought it to the car and caught us. Ladies and gentlemen that's exceptional service.
To the young lady who is the manager, you made an excellent choice in making an exception for us. Thank you. My wife loves Seafood. This may become her new favorite place.
To Jenny, I hope we took good care of you. You deserved it.
And to the owner, I was a server, cook or manager for over 45 years. You have an excellent staff in this place sir. The waitresses had smiles on their face. I mistook another girl for Jenny and she took care of me without batting an eyelash. My son had to point out to me that she wasn't our waitress. I can always find fault in a restaurant. Well, I guess I should say almost always. This was the perfect meal with perfect service and a great atmosphere. We had great news from the doc and thank you Cajun Jimmy's you made our day. I would extremely highly recommend this place. I imagine they're very busy on weekends, but I'm telling you it will be...
Read moreFirst and last time eating here. The staff is COMPLETELY incompetent. I called over a week in advance asking for a reservation as I had a giant party of 16. They told me they don’t do reservations to call the day of and tell them a time and they wouldn’t seat anyone at that table around that time. I come here with my family, having a birthday dinner for my deceased uncle which is why I tried to make reservations in advance, and of course they just sat a party of 4 at a table meant for 20. I refuse to support a business who says one thing and then turns around and does another. Im not saying by any means I am entitled, but they knew I was coming, they had my phone number saved so if they had any questions they could’ve called and confirmed if I was still coming or not. But to put someone there, right at the time I told them I was coming and they told me this morning they wouldn’t seat anyone during that time since we couldn’t make a reservation, Not professional AT ALL. Then had to wait an HOUR for the table that was supposed to be ready when we got there and my grandfather is a diabetic, as well as a couple of other older people who can’t wait around either. Finally get to our table, and waited 20 mins before our drink order was even taken. Drinks finally come out just for the waitress to dump ice cold water in a 70 something year olds lap and blames it on the fact “they’re busy.” The prices were outrages for the quality of food. The food was mid at best, and was very similar to hospital food. $44 for 6 scallops, not including literally anything else. The restaurant charges an 18% gratuity fee to EACH ticket just because we had a big party, which is bs for the ones who didn’t spend much, but it’s the waitresses loss as she probably would’ve gotten more in tips from us if this was not the case. This was the most absolutely ridiculous experience and this establishment will never receive another CENT of mine again. If it was my choice, we would’ve never waited and I would’ve never given them ANY of my money in the first place. Don’t waste your time or money on mid food, and incompetence. I’ve heard the crystal river location is MUCH MUCH better, so I don’t believe it’s the owners fault. Hope something changes at...
Read moreJust went for dinner. As with all of my reviews, I strive for fairness and I respect the restaurant. Operating a restaurant is hard work and I acknowledge that. You want to know what I think of the restaurant so you can decide whether you want to try it for yourself and I respect that. Here are my impressions: The food was good. We had lightly steamed oysters and they were perfectly steamed and served with cocktail sauce and horseradish. We had fried hog fish with hush puppies and a side of jambalaya. The fish was excellent, lightly battered and not greasy. The hush puppies were great, seasoned well and soft and light in the middle. I had a side Caesar salad and it was slightly below average. There are better Caesar salads out there. The singular disappointment was the jambalaya. Not sure whether it was the end of a batch, but it was dry and not seasoned well, in my opinion. Our server was more than accommodating and let me get the salad instead. Very nice! Prices were average for dinner. With tip, we spent $100 for two adults and two kids. I don't think this restaurant has stolen me away from my usual spot, though. I would go back and try more things. ...
