Captain's Galley Crab Cake Shack — Restaurant in Ocean City

Was looking for some place with crabcakes on one of our trips to ocean city and came across this place (and even though it didn't have many reviews- it was highly rated).

Located in the Food Lion parking lot off of the highway but we missed the turn the first time around. Plenty of parking in the shopping center lot.

There isn't much seating, maybe 4-5 seats- I think most people carry-out. They close a bit on the earlier side (7pm).

First things first, their crab cake is packed with meat and a great value! Their hush puppies were chefs kiss. We got the Crabcake and CrabLegs ($39), Crabcake and Scallops ($32) - which both came with a side. We got the Mac N Cheese- which was the epitome of comfort food, and the potato wedges- which was a bit of a let down, it seemed like it might've been old- cold as well.

The scallops came a bit later because they apparently read the ticket wrong but it was cold in the middle. We let them know, and they were apologetic and put the same thing we gave them back in the oven and gave it back to us. Appreciated the apology, but I think if we got new scallops (not the one we took a bite of and spit out) it would've been five stars.

Their drinks are not fountain and from a bottle.

My go to seafood place was sold out of what I wanted, so I decided to try Captain's Galley....I called ahead to confirm that they had lump crab meat, and shrimp - I was told yes, by a very friendly woman. I placed my order for a 1/2 lb of steamed shrimp, light on the seasoning, and 1 lb of lump crab meat (unfrozen). I was greeted upon arrival, which was nice, and the establishment was very clean. I proceeded to pay for my order, and then went on my way. The shrimp was seasoned exactly how I requested, but it was definitely steamed way longer than it should have been. The shrimp were tough, and the shells were extremely hard to get off. The taste just wasn't there either. I made crab cakes with the crab meat, and it was rather tasteless, with very few lumps, in comparison to what I'm used to buying. Maybe it was an off day for them, I'm not sure, but the experience...

We dined inside today. It was our first time at this establishment. I've been reading great reviews on the OC Foodies page, and thought we'd give it a try. We were NOT disappointed. One, if not, the best crabcake I've ever had. Woody's in Dewey is excellent too, but this one is beyond stuffed with crab meat, the most minimal amount of filler I've ever encountered, and broiled to perfection, without being an over seasoned cake. I got the special which was a crab cake, steamed shrimp and one side for $29 and my boyfriend got a crab cake sandwich. This establishment is located in the same shopping center as Food Lion, and they only need a day's notice for frozen cakes to go. They also ship product too!!!! We will definitely be back! Thank you for a terrific meal, and knowing what a cake with hardly any...
