M.R. Ducks is a unique experience. Except for the gift shop and the restrooms, it's completely outside. The bar and some of the tables are underneath overhangs, but the rest of the tables are open to the sky. So you're experience is going to depend a lot on the weather, if you are sensitive to that. There are a lot of die-hard ducks fans who don't seem to care what the weather is doing, they just want to be there. Which makes the place really fun!
When you get there you're greeted by a hostess, but also there is a crush making bar right as you come up to the entrance. This can be very convenient because the bar itself gets very crowded and it could be hard to get close enough to order a drink. If you like to just hang out at the bar, you may have to stand for quite a while while you maneuver for an open seat. There are a couple of small tables under the overhang next to the bar, but unless you're sitting at the bar or can get one of these small tables or you're standing around the bar, you're going to be out under the sky.
The bar is built out on a dock over the water and then there is a pier that extends further out into the water for people to pull their boats up and board or deboard. if you want to leave your boat there while you eat, it's first come first serve.
The food is quite excellent. Their specialty is the pounder, which is a full pound of lump crab meat. The price changes based on market price, but yesterday we were there and it cost us $36. Delicious. I like the burgers a lot but they have wraps, tacos, seafood of various sorts, etc., But you can look that up on their website.
For drinks you're going to want to have a crush or frozen drink most likely and they are delicious there. There are no draft beers only bottles and cans.
As far as entertainment goes, this place is on our short list. We almost always love the bands we hear there. The bandstand is set up between the bar and the bathrooms so if you go to use the bathroom you'll be walking within two feet of the band, which is kind of fun. Another thing that's fun to watch is when it starts to rain, they have a system for getting the band equipment, which is open to the sky, covered very quickly. As soon as the rain stops they are just as quick to get the tarps off and get the band back and playing again. Like I said, fun to watch.
Whether you are brand new to Ocean City or a regular or even a resident, I think you will love the ducks. Other than their dependency on good weather, there is really no downside...
Read moreDo not go here. It appears the staff is very cool if youâre a local. But if youâre visiting, their mentality is pretty much âscrew you.â I was there as part of a bachelor party which we were staying in ocean city MD. This place was recommended to us by a local. Too bad we werenât locals or it may have actually been a fun time. There were two bartenders and a bar back. I want to make a note that not only was the bar back exceptionally friendly and great, but he mentioned that is was not the first time the bartenders were in a bad mood and treated the clients badly⌠he not only deserves a raise but he should be the bartender if you actually want anyone to have a positive experience. The bartender I had was âDannyâ. First off, he was just overall extremely rude. I ordered 2 drinks and asked to keep the tab open and he threw my card back at me an walked away. At that point I had no clue if I had an open tab or not because the charge for the drinks immediately hit my credit card. When I went up to order my second round of drinks I stated that I wasnât sure if my tab was still open but it would be under âlast nameâ. He sat there and stared at me then yelled âeveryone has a tabâ so I said my last name again, he screamed it back to me, then turned around an walked away. When I went to close out along with my friend who was the bachelor, they looked at us, looked around the bar and served everyone else, looked at us again as we were sitting there waiting, then walked away from behind the bar to a group of friends. They intentionally ignored the fact that we were not only trying to order more drinks but we were also trying to close our tabs. It took 10-15 minutes of sitting there staring at the bartenders just to pay our tabs. This was the worst experience Iâve ever had at a bar. Really it was the worst experience Iâve ever had at any business in my life. We were nothing but polite to these people and they were as rude as any human being could possibly be. Itâs disgusting that a place like this is still in business. Shame on them and shame on the people that hired those...
Read moreIn March, only outdoor dining at the bar available. They had the tent around the outdoor bar and a few high tops available. We arrived shortly before 6 on a Thursday, and happy hour ends at six. We were given a hard time about ordering two items from the happy hour menu. Again, we arrived before 6 and they claimed they werenât sure if it would be possible since âitâs already 5:52 pm, so Iâm not sure if you can.â If we were able to chat at the front about no indoor seating, and then be taken to a high top, wait for a server and menus, and then wait for the server to come back and take our order, we were clearly there BEFORE 6 pm. Anyway⌠The food was meh. For me, at least. The two teen boys with me enjoyed their food. They said the steamed shrimp and bufflehead burger were great and the fish part of the fish and chips meal was good. The consensus of the fries was bleh. We got a hotdog (part of the happy hour) and it didnât even come warm. Two of us each had one bite and decided it just wasnât worth eating. I had chicken fingers and they were what you would expect as a frozen middle priced boxed generic brand chicken fingers that you can get from a big box store. Meh. The atmosphere seemed very much like a place the locals go for a drink with friends. Felt like a very friendly and fun place to hangout and grab a drink. I was not a fan of the pricing on my bill not matching exactly what the menu stated. I get that the price isnât a large difference, but different is still different. Every single item ordered was a different price on the menu than what came on my bill. For me, thatâs deceitful. You decide for yourself. I would not rate this place a four, however I gave it a 4 since the majority of our group enjoyed it and the math calculated it was closer to a 4...
