Our son and daughter-in-law were on vacation with my wife and me in Chincoteague, about an hour and half from this restaurant. We wanted to do a boat tour in Ocean City and saw online that this restaurant combined dinner with a 45-minute boat cruise afterwards. If you spent at least $12 on an entrée, you could do the boat cruise for $3 per person for adults and kids over 2. It wasn’t hard to spend $12 per entrée as this place is a little pricey compared to many restaurants in Ocean city and for the most part is mediocre bar food. I don’t know what they consider an entrée but everything on the menu was over $12 except for a hamburger and chicken sandwich which were $11 each with chips.
I called the restaurant in the morning and told whomever I talked with that we would be traveling over an hour and half and wanted to do dinner and their 6 o’clock boat cruise. I also told this person that we had 3 boys under 6. She told me there was not be problem and we made a reservation for 4:45. We got to the restaurant at 3:30 so we could walk the boardwalk and I checked in with a young lady at the counter who later turned out to be the manager. She said our reservations were confirmed.
We came back at 4:45 and they seated us and we ordered dinner. Shortly after we ordered the waitress came over and told us that the boat tour was cancelled because they did not have enough customers for the 6 PM tour. Of course, I was upset as we traveled to do this and had 3 young boys who were very much looking forward to this. My son and daughter-in law felt it would be too late for the boys to do the later tour and in addition, they did not guarantee it would happen. I talked with the manager and she offered a free appetizer and rain check that would still carry the boat fees.
I wanted to walk out and eat somewhere else but the kids were hungry and my son decided we should just eat and get out of there which we did.
This situation is a little more than bad service (which was not bad) or bad food (which was not bad but pricey mediocre). The bottom line is these people are unethical and insensitive and do not care about customers, particularly families. They had 3 opportunities to tell us that the boat tour could be cancelled but never even mentioned it until we sat down and ordered. If you are looking for a boat tour, do not waste your money or time and pay a few more bucks to do a tour with a reputable company and you will save by not paying the food prices for this place. If you are looking for good, reasonably-priced food,...
Read moreWe were extremely disappointed with our experience at the Angler restaurant. Reserving a table was straightforward and easy. However, our dinner experience was severely lacking.
To start, our appetizers were served without appropriate silverware. My father had to go to to the hostess table to order one. When the server brought the utensils over, he waited for us to take the plate from his hands. This behavior continued throughout the night as we were asked to pass waters down the table and drinks to one another.
My father's beer on tap was completely flat and he requested a bottle instead. The raw oysters were mediocre at best. Some were dried out and they were notably inconsistent in size. They came with cocktail sauce and thin slices of lemon which were basically useless. No wedges to squeeze or mingnionette. My brother spit out one with a particularly tough bit.
The entrees did not prove much better. The fried fish sandwich and tacos were acceptable. My mother enjoyed her beurre blanc fish as well. The shrimp however had a rubbery texture and the special of the day (Hawaiian fish) came as a very small portion. The strip steak was inconsistently cooked and lacking on seasoning. The green beans tasted as if they had come from a microwave bag. Probably the least favorite at the table was the risotto, if you could even call it that. The rice was simultaneously overcooked and undercooked which I didn't even know was possible. We couldn't determine any specific flavors and whether or not the gloopiness was from some sort of cheap cheese or just the terrible technique.
The biggest insult to injury however, was the bill. There was an additional charge of $2 for onion rings and an additional charge of $3 for "blackened style" fish. Both of these options were never listed on the menu or mentioned by the server to cost more when offered as part of our ordering options.
Overall, the atmosphere of the bay was nice and the time spent together meant more than the meal but next time, we will be skipping the Angler...
Read moreWe haven’t been here in a few years and decided it would be our “nice” dinner for our week of vacation. Once we get to the hostess stand we are told it’s a 25 minute wait so we give our name and take a buzzer and wait at the bar. We were greeted by a friendly bartender and some good conversation. After 30 minutes go by we realize our buzzer hasn’t gone off so we wait a little longer, as the restaurant was busy. still nothing. one of us goes up to the hostess stand to ask about our table as we’ve been waiting longer than we were told. my dad who went up to ask, looked down to see everyone else had been given a table that had arrived after us, so we were finally seated. our table was nice and had a beautiful view of the bay, however the table itself was dirty and looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned off prior to us sitting. we were then greeted by a kind waitress who took our drink order and then our dinner order. my dad and i got the pan-seared scallops and my mom ordered the shrimp imperial. i could almost say our food came out of the kitchen quick except not everyone’s food made it to the table. the food-runner had set his tray down at the table next to us that had people seated at it and in the midst of it, dropped my mom’s food, so my dad and i ate without her as she insisted. her food then came out after we were almost finished. the scallops and broccolini were delicious but the portions were not worth the price. the shrimp imperial was very good as well according to my mom. before receiving the check, we noticed the manager going around to the two tables that got “hit” with my mother’s dinner and were given formal apologies as well as what looked like apps on the house, while we received nothing for my mom's dinner being dropped and delayed. To top it off we were never told about the free after dinner cruise. we were very disappointed and will most likely not...
