This place is really awful The door was still unlocked as I arrived went in to make an order at the bar and they told me that they're closed. The manager at the time name was Nicole. This place really really needs to work on their customer service and professionalism I've gone to this location many times and I've had a few bad experiences from by the name of Steve. I ordered my meal to go and my kids meal and I asked the young lady to give me extra coleslaw dressing which is what I usually get for the coleslaw because sometimes it seems to be dry. The young lady went to the back and asked for it and came back out and said we do not sell that. I said I get it all the time I'm not sure why I can't get it it's just a small little container of the coleslaw dressing. The manager by the name of Steve came back up and said we don't give that away and if someone has been giving it to you they're in trouble because they shouldn't have been giving it away. I said I get it all the time whenever I get coleslaw because ( and I showed him the container of coleslaw and how dry it was) he stated well they shouldn't be doing that. The next thing I know another young lady comes out back by the name of Laura and she asked what it was I wanted and she understood completely and said that's no problem let me get that for you. He came back up and tried to speak and said oh I thought you wanted something else that we do not serve. Not sure how you thought that when I opened up the bag and the container of coleslaw and showed you that you could not see any of the coleslaw dressing then he says oh I thought you wanted something else.... He was just very feisty arrogant and abrupt My response was sir I specifically ask the young lady and you for coleslaw dressing and he tried to skirt around the statement knowing that he was out of line as well as rude so I told him I will contact the corporate about customer service. He made my visit very unpleasant and I lost my appetite

Being barbecue fans, we decided to give Sonny’s a try. I was skeptical about getting good barbecue is this franchise type of restaurant but was pleasantly surprised. Mikaela our waitress was excellent. She was courteous and friendly and very welcoming. The three of us each ordered the meats selection. My son and I chose the 3 meat and my wife chose the 2 meat. The standouts were the beans and the St. Louis ribs. The ribs had a nice smoke ring and were tender but on the small side. The macaroni and cheese was creamy and I considered them solid. The Cole slaw was also very good. I was disappointed that you couldn’t pick meat by the pound as in traditional barbecue restaurants. Sadly the brisket was not available as sliced pieces from the point. Only the leaner flat was available sliced and the point portion had to be chopped. Not my favorite format. The brisket was good but not great. Chicken was delicious as was the jalapeño sausage. The worst thing on our plates, although not terrible, was the corn bread. It came in a muffin format and was dry and lacked corn meal. Would be much better if they baked their corn bread in a pan and served it as sliced pieces as the muffins were dryer. A pleasant meal and with some adjustments, would definitely be a 5 star experience. They weren’t too far off. Would go back. PS:Not a big fan of the automated and impersonal responses.

If I could do less than one star, I would. Ordered a Cobb salad. If the anemic lettuce and extreme sparseness of the 2tsp of egg and half a cup at most of cheese weren’t bad enough, some congealed, bacon-fat encrusted monstrosity was on there. This location is terrible. We’ve had problems every time we’ve come here, but attributed it to growing pains so gave them second, third, fourth, fifth shots. You’d have thought we would learn after something has been inedible each time. We were so excited to finally have a Sonny’s this close. Servers have been hit or miss, but the real issue seems to be the kitchen. After requesting different bacon bits for my salad, I was presented with confusion by the server, not understanding why anything looked off. Legitimately looked like it was chewed. Seriously, look at the photo. Turned my stomach. She brought back the same thing, warmed in a small cup. Greasy congealed bacon fat-covered nastiness. Manager offered 2 free corn muffins ($2). Thanks. Didn’t even bother to come speak with us or see what was up. I think my “salad” was something like $12 and I sat while my family tried to eat. We’ve now learned our lesson and will drive to clermont Sonny’s where the service and food is far superior.

This place has a lot to learn they don’t listen. The orders are never right probably 15 times I’ve come through there and it’s been the same way. I have refused to go back. I was supposed to get my Meal replaced because it was all wrong after spending $78 And a manager tells me oh I’m gonna replace your Meal come back not that I needed the free food, but I did give you my money and it was not right. However, when I go to do it, here’s Manager very nasty. I’m just not gonna do that. There was nothing wrong with everything at that time then they’re gonna at least replace my sides and when they didn’t replace the sides with the full size like they were supposed to be well aggravation I’m not gonna have anymore. You order a pulled chicken sandwich. You get pulled pork every time you call him and tell him about it. They act like you’re the problem. None of their staff wants to listen, so they’re all on their own. Tell you Sonnys you don’t hold a candle to the Apopka one the sweet tea at your restaurant sucks , never have a problem with the sweet tea at the one in Apopka however, this one it’s horrible drinks are out and when you call them and tell them they get mad at you if you go through the drive-through and you don’t handover large amounts for a tip then they drive-through staff get aggravated and mad. I’m sorry I’m gonna tip when I feel that I’m being treated Correctly or else I can go to McDonald’s every day and McDonald’s has a lot better customer service at this point than this Sonny’s so will I be returning today? I’ll take the extra miles and gas and I’ll go to Apopka or my food is food. I don’t care if you are franchise Hire people or fix your speaker that can take the new management as well because the Manager today with the black hair lady she is horrible and someone named Bradford told me they’re going to replace my Meal sHe’s just as bad beware. Don’t go there you won’t even get all your food in the bag and when you say something about it, then you become the problem . Long story short nasty manager lady lying manager yesterday and poor staff...

EDITED 5/29/25 Well, I wish things would have been like the visit for which we were originally asked to write a review...

Been back twice since then. First time (dine-in), food was excellent (better than previous review), but service was non-existent. When ordering, I mentioned that last time we were in we had trouble getting a beverage refill because it was close to closing. Server told us not to worry... and then proceeded to not visit us the rest of the meal and never once refill our beverages. When time came to pay, server was aghast when I brought up our lack of service... and then proceeded to bring us refills of the wrong beverages. I can be ignored at much better places... I don't need to pay for that privilege. And if I want incorrect product, McDonalds is just a few traffic lights away.

Second time, we ordered curbside (so I could be ignored, but at home). Food was good, but ALL of the beverages had something wrong (4 of 7 were straight-up wrong, the other three ignored the order notes, which were in RED LETTERS on the printed order, and which we saw the person read the order form before our beverages were retrieved).

TLDR - When this location first opened, we went a few times and had less-than-stellar experiences. Didn't go back for a LONG time. started going again recently... but some things don't seem to change as much as they could. If you dine here, I hope your overall experiences are better than mine.

5/7/25

Jamie, our server, was excellent. He has helped us on several visits and we are always in a better mood when we are seated in his area. Food was quite good, although my pulled pork sandwich had massive portions of fat... I don't eat fat, and after removing it was down over a quarter of the sandwich. My companion got a great sandwich though. Try the seasonal BBQ sauce. Sweet, but a surprising zip...
