Barr's Public House - Maumee, OH — Restaurant in Ohio

Unfortunately my friends and I had a very bad experience at Barr's, from start to finish beginning with the reservation. We had a party of 12, anyone who makes reservations on-line knows that websites do not allow reservations for large parties yet the hostess at Barr's continued to point us to online reservations and was not nice about it. FYI - The reservation site through Barr's website provided an option for up to five guests. The message from OpenTable "Unfortunately, your party is too large to make an online reservation at Barr's Public House. We recommend contacting the restaurant directly." Our party arrived at 6 pm on Thursday. We started timing how long it took to get a drink, not only from the libations menu where the drinks are a bit more custom and could take a little longer to prepare but for a beer, a glass of wine, a standard cocktail pour, is 32 minutes too long? For a party of 12, this didn't happen to just one of us, it happened to each one of us for every drink we ordered - we were there for almost 3 hours and each of us had 2 - 3 drinks. We brought this to the attention of our servers, which in my opinion we should not have had to do, but they seemed oblivious to the fact that drinks were taking that long and they were ignoring that fact completely. The food took a long time as well. I for one thought that based on the price the food would be quite good, unfortunately is was just ok. The hummus was the worst I have ever tasted, so bland there wasn't even a chick pea taste and the garlic was so heavy it burned your mouth. I personally tried the Shepard's pie, again couldn't have been more bland and nothing at all special for the price. I understand that everyone could have an off night, I get it, and normally I would not be so critical but in this case, from the start to finish of our experience, tells me this is normal operation which I cannot ever...

This place does not even deserve a single star. I was here along with a retired NFL player on a business trip representing a very well known and respected company, however my experience with this establishment was terrible, before we entered we targeted with a racial remark that claimed to just be a bad joke, We decided to not let that prosper into something more so we ignored it and entered anyway. We were immediately told that we probably might want to go somewhere else because we would have to wait and that drinks stopped at 9:45 and kitchen closes at 10:30 even though it was only 9:00 obviously driving somewhere would be impossible due to the fact everything would be closed by 10pm so we decided to ask to wait for a table even though there were plenty tables available that we could have been placed at right away . We also asked to sit at bar and we were told we could not although others were sitting there. So we were told to sit in our car. In which we didn’t do so, so as we are standing there a couple walks in an immediately walks right to a table and others walked in and went to the bar. I questioned the host about this matter and she could not give me an explanation. It was clear that we were not welcomed here based on all things that occurred and all things that were said. This place does not welcome people of color.

Oh and did I forget to mention my Agent who is A white Man called 5 mins before we entered to reserve a table for us and he was told that he did not have to wait to be seated because there was plenty of tables available and that the bar was open for seating.

Me and my boyfriend came here to celebrate my birthday together. We got a coupon on half off Toledo. We had been hearing great things so we decided to come in. Their drink menu is amazing! I just turned 21 so I was excited to get a fancy drink from the bar. I had a vanilla bean martini which was amazing. The other drink was called “carol killed her husband” I’m not even kidding, this was the best drink I have ever had. It was amazingly crafted. Their bar is absolutely on point. They definitely put a lot of work into their drinks! We got cauliflower wings for an app. I make these at home all the time. But these were sooo good. We both agreed next time we might just get them as a meal. The ahi tuna tacos were very good and tuna was cooked perfectly. My boyfriend got a black & bleu burger and he loved it. The sweet potato fries had an amazing maple butter to dip in. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. The atmosphere is also great for young/old. They were playing hip hop music which was awesome, but it still had a very classy vibe as well. I am really happy that we spent my birthday dinner here.
