The one thing I absolutely love about doing these reviews is when I try new places. I've been to this area several times and seen a long line outside of this building and wondered to myself what hype was. So, today I finally decided to stop because there was no line when I passed by, but by the time I parked there was a line. Ok, so here is my honest review. The food is good, portions are on point. All the staff was smiling and joyful. HOWEVER, I was by myself (so only 1 seat needed) so I called inside and asked if they sit by the amount of people or by your place in line, she said, by your place in line. 🤔 So, I continued to stand in line for about another 5 minutes before a man walked up to me and said are you by yourself? and I said yeah, and he said there's open places at the bar. I told him that I called inside and she said we had to wait in line, he said no.. go to the bar! and then he tugged my coat and pulled me inside and walked me over to the bar. I sat down and they cleaned the space right away. The waitress behind the bar waited on him and his wife first and then about 2 minutes later she asked if I wanted coffee. I was a little discouraged at that point. Being an ex waitress for a very large well known casino. You learn really quick, NEVER judge a book by it's cover. (I am not a well dressed, fancy looking person) in total it took her 10 minutes to wait on me. In fact, the guy that grabbed my coat and his wife got their food before she even took my order. And she never once refilled my coffee but she refilled every single coffee down that bar! SMH! 🙄 I'm going to say go ahead and stop in here because the food is good, and for the most part the staff is pretty friendly, a little judgemental, but friendly. To the owner: I'm going to suggest, when there is a long line outside and the bar is clear, step out the door and ask, is there anyone here by their self that would like to sit at the bar? I'd also speak to the staff about judging people by what they wear or how they look. I usually tip $10 or more because I'm a former waitress, I know that's how we survive. But I left a $5, because I do tip according to service at times! Sorry about such a long review but it was necessary in this matter because passing by here and seeing people standing outside all the time makes me think that it's some fantastical, wonderful place that definitely needs a review... After going inside and being treated differently than others... For sure I know it needed a honest opinion. Edit: after reading some of these reviews I suggest you guys fix those mashed potatoes, facts are don't advertise home cooked food if you don't have home...
Read moreHow this place has 4.5 stars is beyond me. My family not only loves Amish food, but any type of hearty country cooking. We stood in line for quite some time only to leave hungry and disappointed. We were a party of 5 that ordered fried chicken (dark), noodles, and home fries; 3 pc chicken tenders and fries; country fried steak, mashed potatoes, and corn; liver and onions and mashed potatoes; and most of us ordered side salads. The salads were the best part. They were very simple; chopped iceburg, small amount of carrot slivers, cheese, and nice crispy bacon. The homemade sweet and sour dressing was pretty good. After that we should have left, because it went downhill from there. The fried chicken may have well just been boiled then dipped in grease; it was greasy and not crispy at all. My son said the chicken had more bite than breading. He didn’t complain or compliment the noodles or home fries. My chicken fried steak was not good at all, and was covered in a canned or jarred brown gravy. Mashed potatoes were clearly instant, too. My daughter got the tenders and fries, and maybe I didn’t expect much from that being similar to a kids meal, but she liked it okay. There were 3 pieces; two looked like they were from one package and the third looked completely different. The fries were baked “freezer fries” as my family likes to call them. ;) My Mom ordered the liver and onions with mashed potatoes and gravy, and although she was pretty hungry, she took a couple bites and was done. The onions were raw, only very slightly cooked, and the liver was dry with no sauce/gravy. She said it was the worst liver and onions she ever had in her life. While walking out I wanted to tell the huge line of people waiting that it wasn’t worth it, and to literally go anywhere else. So consider this my warning. This place seems to have given up. Maybe because visitors to the area expect more that’s what keeps them going, I don’t know, but we will never go back. Our bill was $70, not including tip, and it, in absolutely no way,...
Read moreIt's hard to sit in this place, so plan ahead! But the crowd moves fast. Food also gets served fast. This was a very delicious grub after a long drive from PA. My country steak was insanely good (and I am not a fan of gravy at all)! The sides of coleslaw and hashbrowns were also delicious. My wife's grilled chicken with mashed potatoes was some of the best she's ever had, she said. The grilled chicken was extremely juicy and had a lovely grilled flavor to it. Waitress girls were very hospitable and nice, and made me feel like I am eating in a family restaurant. If you sit at the bar, expect your butt to get a bit sore lol A few things I'd like to note that made this experience almost a 4 star one but I kept it at 5: bread that we got served was handled by servers with their bare hands after touching other things behind the counter. An apple cake that we ordered was good but heated up in a microwave :( I understand that it's done for efficiency and speed due to the amount of people coming through, but I'd expect more patience and thoroughness in heating up and serving their delicious and very much praised pies. That pie would be more delicious heated up in the oven. Overall a great experience. I've been trying to get to B&W for quite some time and we made it a stop on the way home to Michigan on our road trip despite this detour adding a couple of hours to...
