Excellent Pizza on the South Side!
I dropped in late, but only about mid shift for them--they are a late night pizza joint, cranking out pizzas from 5PM to Midnight...
It's an interesting place: the menu alone should be a clue that these folks do more than just make pizzas...they like to have a little fun in the automotive and motorcycle worlds as well. With pizzas like American Muscle, American Classic, Sunday Cruise and Full Boost...it's obvious they like to go fast and make graat pizzas :) .
It's a small storefront (not quite hole in the wall, because you can see it from Western) in a shopping center on the South Side of OKC, which automatically ups the Pizza Power Score by about 25 Points. (The best pizza places are storefront shops in mid tier plazas. Prove me wrong.)
I, of course, had to ask about the Nuts and Bolts pizza, because everyone knows that pineapple belongs on pizza. In addition, I was "coerced" into ordering the 5 Cheese Mac And Cheese Special, since it was a limited time offer, and house specialty...
The pizzas were handmade and brought out within about 10 minutes...not bad for made to order pizzas! And we spent the time talking about drag racing and engine building , so the time really flew by :)
So how was it?
Listen...
There is a reason this place has a 4.8 star rating and over 200 reviews on Google (tying it for first place in the OKC Metro!) and 4.9 stars on FB. The Nuts and Bolts pizza was AMAZING. It's not NY style pizza, and it's not Chicago Pizza... It's a medium thickness crust, crisp yet not crunchy...let's call it the South Side Style Pizza. The sauce was not too heavy, the Canadian Bacon was generously piled on, and the pineapples were not only grilled, they were also dusted with a homemade secret cinnamon sugar "rub" that really brings "Hawaiian Style" pizza up a notch. Definitely one of the best "Hawaiian pizzas" I have had.
And the 5 Cheese Mac and Cheese Pizza...well, for starters, I'm a meat on pizza guy. Alfredo pizzas, Margherita Pizzas, and those types aren't my style, but five cheeses? And Mac and Cheese? Have to try it. And...I am impressed. Their mac and cheese would be a great dish by itself, and on that thinner crust pizza, it was actually really, really good. If you have someone who doesn't eat meat, this would be a great pizza to try. Oh, and if you have gluten sensitivities, or are doing the keto thing, they also have a cauliflower crust option. In fact, if you have dietary restrictions, their build your own would be a great option, as they can recommend combos that will taste great. They also have salads available as well.
I'd didn't get to try the wings, but I did sample their Spicy Cheese Curds (with homemade Ranch Dressing). Listen...these things have a little kick to them! But wow -- they are good! And their Ranch is great...Definitely a unique side item to try!
Pizzas range from a 10" pie (serves one or two people) that is available for certain combos or a 14" large pizza (serves 4-6) all the way up the their 28" XXXL Pizzas (serves one teenager). only a few XXXL Pizza doughs are made each day, so if you're thinking about getting one, either order early or get with them the day before so they can prepare enough dough. And here's an interesting fact: if you fold your XXXL pIzza in half, it'd be the largest Calzone in the City :)
So, yes their pizza was good, but did it pass the ultimate test? Could I eat it cold, for breakfast the next day? Definitely. The slices were not greasy or...
Read moreWeâre about to shift into gear with Heavy Dâs Pizzeriaâa place thatâs equal parts automotive, nostalgia, and pure pizza perfection. Picture this: hidden away in a mini-mart relic from the early â90s, sandwiched (or should I say âpizzadâ) between a vape shop and a random bar, youâll find this low-key legend. Heavy Dâs is a little hard to spot, but trust me, once you stumble upon it, youâll know youâve struck gold.
Walk through those doors, and bam! Your senses are bombarded with vintage flair and cool vibes plastered across 87% of the walls (yeah, I counted). Itâs like stepping into your cool uncleâs garageâthe one who always has some wild project going on and a fridge full of cold ones. Custom signs, quirky hangings, and retro car parts are practically daring you to not have a good time.
Now, letâs talk pizza. These folks have been busy in their automotive lab of deliciousness, crafting recipes that are anything but ordinary. Sure, it might feel a bit cozy (read: elbow-to-elbow with strangers), but thatâs part of the charm. Itâs like youâre suddenly among friends you didnât even know you had, and the crewâs hospitality makes you feel like youâve been coming here for years.
And the smells⌠oh, the glorious smells! Fresh, handmade pizzas, baked with the best ingredients money can buy. From classic toppings to unexpected twists, your nose gets to join the party as the kitchen and dining area are seemingly separated by just an order counter, with few bar stools with hightop tables .
From doughy start to cheesy, saucy finish. No fuss, no frills, just straight-up, rock-your-world pizza. Their signature pies come with names thatâll have you cracking a smile while your mouth waters. So, if youâre hungry and ready for an âAppetite for Destruction,â roll on over to Heavy Dâs Pizzeria, where the pies will have you rethinking everything you thought you knew about pizza. Eat, rock...
Read moreI was absolutely blown away by how good this pizza place is. This is no joke the best pizza I've ever had, and I used to make pizza from scratch for a living for a few years!
My favorite part is the crust. It's magical how it tastes almost like an Olive Garden bread stick, perfect blend of garlic and dough it's basically an orgasm for your mouth. Everything is made fresh and is god tier. The toppings are not lacking or skimpy, the cook and cut was excellent, very cheesy, so much so that I had to pick up the excess because it was so gooey! (This is a major compliment)
The pricing is quite fair. It's not cheap, because the quality and portion isn't. You pay for what you get, and then some. The Large Pepperoni I bought was $15 and it was easily worth the price. Their sides are fairly priced as well, nothing seemed "expensive" to me. Please go out and support local businesses like Mr. D's. You'll never get a pizza half as good from Domino's.
Another amazing thing is Mr. D and his family. These people are very kind and respectful, and made me feel very welcome. They are open and communicate frequently on their Facebook page with transparency and honesty and I really appreciate that. In store as well, friendly smiles and the lady at the counter helped me look through their unique menu and was patient with me. A lot of the people came in seemed like Mr. D's family, he treats his regulars so well (I will be a regular one of these days đ)
In short this is absolutely the best pizza place in Southside OKC and this is a...
