Disclaimer! This review is from 2 years ago. It has actually taken this longer for me to be able to process what actually happened to us at Iguana! Unsure if management is the same but I’m sure hoping not.
Everyone rating this place so highly has me questioning whether we ate at the same restaurant!
Previous to our last visit, my husband would eat her at least twice a month. We loved their queso and atmosphere but the tacos aren’t so great and the service is always hit or miss - BIG HIT or MISS.
Most recent trip was shocking!!
I will just give a summation of our experience. Server took FOREVER to welcome us & take drink order. No acknowledgement or apology for their lack of attentiveness. Took even longer for her to come back with our ice water and tea. Not to mention the chips and queso we ordered - yes, you pay for queso here.
I was finally irritated enough when she didn’t come back with the queso that i got up and politely asked another server to find ours. She came out (she looked super frazzled as though she was upset at us that she was having to work) and I gently (I made a conscious effort to be very kind here) asked that she have another server help us.
She left and came back with “the manager” saying WE need to LEAVE because WE made her server cry!
After I paid for our drinks and queso (yes, I paid for our stuff!!), we obliged and left IMMEDIATELY.
We were horrified first that a “manager” would speak to us the way she did and blatantly lied about the course of events!
My husband & I eat out quite a bit and most restaurants frequent know us by name and appreciate us and our tips.
Why we continued to give this restaurant chance after chance only to be treated so ridiculously poor, is beyond me!
So this wasn’t much of a “summary” after all but this place popped up in my search for Mex food near brick town and I just couldn’t keep this to myself any longer!
Service is a dying art - especially post-covid. Everything has grown in price and the quality and quantity have been sacrificed. But! Wonderful restaurants with amazing food and superior service DO EXIST! We will seek those places out and reward them generously. I’ll be surprised if Iguana still exists (under its current management) in the next few years....
Read moreThis was a terrible first experience. If I could give zero stars, I would. I came for happy hour on Tuesday with 3 friends after work. Of course we got drinks With our food. I had one margarita and 2 shots. Towards the end of the dinner, we asked if we could buy one more round of shots for us at the table. Mind you, we all didn't have 2 shots, some people had 1. After we had asked for our last round, we waited 40 minutes and went back to the bar asking for our waitress 3 times. We went to the bar and then asked for her, and then came back to our table confused cause we thought our waitress went home. Around 8:30, after we waited 40 minutes, we go back to the bar and the bartender tells us our waitress isn't comfortable serving us more drinks. Mind you, none of us have had more than 2 drinks or 2 shots. We talk to the manager and he says, "our waitress isn't comfortable. It's up to her discretion"... the entire time, we're just confused cause she never told us she felt uncomfortable serving us more drinks. I basically told the manager that that's just terrible service and communication. If she felt that way, she could've told us. And yes, we are black engineers. Maybe it's cause we were black, but that's just ridiculous. I'm never going back to the restaurant. Ever. I was unbelievably angry afterwards because how dare you not even come to us and say how you feel. Like... we just wanted to have a good time at happy hour and it was ruined. I'm not even tipsy. I'm honestly shocked by the treatment. Do NOT come here if you're black or with a group of friends. They are biased and prejudice and they won't speak up if they feel there is an issue. Do not spend your hard earned money here. And do not see Laura. She is not capable of serving well, even though she is twice my age and supposedly had a liquor license. It's 2019. Get your stuff together if you're scared of black customers or scared of assessing customers that you think have drank too much. Absolutely disgusting and...
Read moreThis is a long standing restaurant in OKC that has survived a location move and has had many highs and lows over the years. We've been going here for years and years. We even threw a baby shower for a friend in the front bar area when it used to be a completely walled off room. Unfortunately, it's just in a low right now. We hadn't been for awhile because our last time there had been fairly unpleasant, and all of our favorite staff have left. But, there are certain things we really like here, so we decided on a whim to return. Service wasn't great, but the restaurant industry has been hit hard and I know experienced waitstaff is hard to come by, so it's not just an Iguana issue and we try to overlook this at most places. We did have to get up and ask for water, some utensils and flag down to pay our check. Everything is starting to look worn and grimy - like everything needs a good power spray washing. Ha. Kinda joking with that....kinda not. Guacamole appetizer was actually seasoned nicely this time which is always a coin toss. Salsa good as always (love it!). Queso was to the kids liking. Ordered two perfect margaritas, and they were awful. Literally took two sips and put it at the end of table not to be touched again. $28 down the drain. It was in a really tall glass, orange in color, and tasted like orange juice with some margarita mix added to this. Most restaurants, a perfect margarita is mixed, strained, and served a short or martini glass. I think the house margarita is the better way to go. Our chalupa nachos were barely warm. I took my son to the bathroom that was horrifying. Diarrhea splatter on all the toilets. Only God truly knows when the last time it was really cleaned (and this was the women's bathroom). Being gone about 4 minutes from barely warm nachos resulted in cold nachos. Daughter didn't care for her taco which is rare, so it must have not been good. Not sure if/when we'll be back, but I hope this restaurant is able to recover and...
