It has been at least a year since I've been to On The Border. I went as a treat for myself and my unborn baby. After going to the bar and sitting they immediately brought out salsa and chips. I remember always getting queso as well as salsa and chips. So I asked if he would bring the queso. Never once did the man say "yes that will be as much as a dinner though!". After eating queso and chips for quite some time, I finally was approached and asked if i was ready for my check.. disappointed, I looked at him and said "no but I'd like to place my order now." He quickly scrambled for his pen and finally took my order. 30 minutes to by and I'm unattended and still without my lunch. Finally, a man come a out with what I ordered for the exception that it has chilli sauce on my enchiladas and i ordered queso in top.( I'm surprised they didn't charge me 6 bucks for the queso topping as well). He said hold on and went back to get the correct order and came back saying he grabbed the wrong plate.... my stomach was already uneasy and i slowly had lost my appetite. So I asked for the check so I could leave immediately after I was done. He brought me my tab and i saw how they charged over 6 dollars for the queso. Upset I explained how everywhere I've ever gone I never was charged for queso and i don't remember being charged here either. He offered his manager and offered to discount the queso. The manager came out and i felt like I couldn't even eat anymore so I said "you know what just give me a to go box and give me my card back." I wasnt happy. So the manager tries grabbing my plate and i explain that i just want a box. I dont want them doing something to my food. He said were not and tried to grab it again. I said just bring the box! Finally brought me the box and i left a zero dollar tip. Disgusted I left... got to thinking about it and got more upset as I thought because they never discounted anything on the entire meal! Still paid 6 bucks for queso and 10 or more for my enchiladas! Called the store and spoke to the manager and said he'll credit me the difference. Honestly I dont care to ever go back and all I wasn't is my money back. I got home and are what I could and got sick on the food they even gave me to begin with.. never again! This place quickly took a turn in my book and i will always choose Alfredos over it...
Read moreWent out for an all girls 👧 family night... my sister, we'll call her "Karen" came with...no name tag needed. We entered this very sparsely seated restaurant. There were many unoccupied employees standing at the front... They mustered up some kind of non-enthusiastic greeting. 👋 We were seated at a 6 top booth in a corner... The restaurant itself appeared well maintained and decor was characteristically "on the border". It offers outside seating with a big screen 🖥 available to watch. Everyone ordered fountain 🧃drinks, obviously I needed my "standard go to"...Bloody Mary. 🍸 🍹 Our server, Clayton hadn't picked up by now we were "that table". (Speaking from my GM experience- we know!) Perhaps, he didn'tcare; he lacked any enthusiasm. 🤷♂️ His long hair was disheveled and in his face. We ordered the table side guacamole. 🥑 🥑 The server used a tiny towelette to clean her hands in front of us.. Table side could have been better presented... she struggled mashing the avocado due to incorrect utensils.. and as expected my sister, "Karen" had special prep requests... Finally it was presented to us "complete".. except for the special prep... Our regular server allegedly went for that.... and forgot... 😕 and blamed the kitchen. My sister, Karen ordered the fajitas; "well done and hot" my two daughters ordered the flautas.... one got the 🍽 dinner, the other the special.. my sister Rosey... ordered the enchilada combo with steak...I ordered the chicken 🐔 and cheese 🧀 stuffed jalapeños. Jalapeños are an appetizer but plenty for a meal. 🌶 Needless to say; the fajitas were medium and the whole plate had to be sent back... Everything else was ok.. I really enjoyed my food... For me, service was the issue... they should know:... Karens go out to eat too.. and they/we are their guests... and their money! $.... 💰 🤑 💸 they work for tips.. Disappointed... it was Karen's first time to On the Border and of course, she was not pleased with the service. The "service" that had no personality or enthusiasm was a total disappointment on this visit. Our ticket was over 100.00 ...even though it wasn't merited, our server was tipped according to ticket NOT...
Read moreSeptember 1st 2021 the year of our lord, I was traveling across town for a normal business appointment. My phone rings, from a friend who works in the area (he must have a tracker on me), asks “would you like to eat lunch at On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina on meridian”. Weird I know, but none the less, I agree to meet.
When I walk in I’m promptly greeted by a very nice young lady wearing a mask, who knows my friend as he is a regular patron. She/Her takes me right to the table, sets me down and asks me for my drink order, quickly returns with it (Very refreshing). Next, I ponder my options for an entree, ultimately landing on the chicken fajitas.
They bring out the chips, the salsa, the queso my lunch date amigos had ordered. Chips salted perfectly, the right crisp, crunch, and corn tortilla flavor you expect from a good chip, salsa that drips with the perfect blend of cilantro, tomatoes, onions, and jalapeños.
At the perfect moment in this dining experience I hear a low sizzle sound coming from the kitchen entrance it grows louder as it nears. My hunger levels rise, salivating as the rice & beans topped with sour cream and guacamole are placed on the table next to me. I clear my drink cup, slide empty salsa bowls to the side and put my phone away ad the sizzling plate of fajitas comes into view. I can hardly wait as they place the plate onto the clearing I’ve created.
With ever so thin and perfectly warm and soft tortillas in the warmer in the middle of the table I begin!
First the bed of refried beans, then rice sprinkled on top, next, the heart of a fajita, the perfectly cooked seasoned and softened peppers and onions coated in melty cheese. Topped with delicate grilled chicken. Drizzle of sour cream and a plop of guacamole, a huge bite and…. Well I’ve never tasted heaven but it can’t be...
