We were completely in shock at how we were treated today. We have been a Landry's Club member for about 11 years, and have been a patron of Saltgrass for at least half that time. At first to locations all over the country, but our family has been visiting the Norman location almost monthly (sometimes twice) since moving to Oklahoma in December of 2023. We have made many recommendations to many different people on, not just how good the food is, but how wonderful it was that the staff would interact with the customers in a polite and social manner. Unfortunately, that was not our experience tonight. After finishing our meal we had engaged in a short conversation with our server, Katelyn. My husband had asked if she was willing to continue the conversation at a later time to which she had agreed. She handed him a piece of paper and a pen, but as he started to write down our contact information, the general manager, John, called her away abruptly. She then came back very quickly and asked for her pad and pen back, leaving just as fast before we could ask for the check. A few moments later John came by and handed my husband a peace of paper. He asked if it was the check before noticing it was the paper he had written our contact information on. John then stated that our server was uncomfortable with the conversation and proceeded to yell at my husband and make wild accusation that were completely false. My husband tried to stay calm at first. Completely in shock, we both assumed there had to have been some kind of misunderstanding as our server gave no indication that she felt uncomfortable. John, however, was not interested in a resolution and yelled in my husbands face stating that he doesn't know us and will always take his servers word over ours. He then proceeded to yell at my husband that there was someone there from the Norman location that warned him of our on going and unpleasant behavior and he wasn't gong to tolerate it at his location. Know, no longer wanting this rude man to yell in his face, my husband sternly made it clear he wasn't going to just sit there and allow John to yell at him. John replied that he was going to do what he wants and then threatened to call the police. We simply told him to do what he must. John then demanded we just pay and leave. We agreed but requested that our discounts be applied for the Landry's select membership and my husbands veteran status. When John brought back the revised check, he stood off to the side speaking to someone on the telephone. He was quite loud and we could clearly hear he was talking to someone about us and relayed to the individual on the other line the same false accusations. When he returned to the table, Johns attitude had cooled slightly. My husband was still reviewing the check and this man had the audacity to apologize to me, making a point to state he had no such feelings towards my husband. My husband (who's demeanor had quickly returned to calm) then asked John with a laugh in his voice, "why are you apologizing to me wife? Shes clearly on my side." (and I am) To which John replayed "That's sad." He then thanked my husband for his service and we could only laugh. Noticing our disbelief he insisted he meant it. We gave payment and asked for a take-out box. On Johns returned his demeanor had cooled even more and he provided us without a take-out box. We left without further interactions with him. The names in this statement where taken from the receipts and another review confirmed John as the general manager. John was very proud to insist he was the store manager. To be insulted in such a manner was a total shock in itself, but to have my husband screamed at in front of our children by a manager was on a whole other level of disrespect. What kind of person screams at anyone like that let alone a disabled veteran in a wheelchair? My husband thinks no good will come in writing this, but I am hopeful that someone from Saltgrass with the same disbelief as I, will reach out to us. I hope at the very least to clear up this obvious...
Read moreI have to say, I rarely find a steakhouse that can cook a steak to specification. So that being said, my comments to follow are my experiences at the SaltGrass steakhouse are directed at the staff, and not the poorly cooked steak.
I am a big believer in "You get what you pay for". That being said, I dont think I have to clarify that when you walk into a restaurant and drop $32.00 for a steak, and ask for it Medium, you should receive what you pay for.
However, that's not what happened. Not only once, but twice.
I personally would have loved to send the steak back, however, to be quite Frank, the servers in both instances seem quite unapproachable. In neither situation was I asked how the food was in a fair enough time.
The pictures I have attached are of the same steak style, and both ordered Medium.
One is clearly raw, the other is clearly well done.
Inconsistency. This is the word of the day. I can clearly understand that when you work in a kitchen, time is valuable, and there are many orders that have to go out, But there is clearly a lack of leadership, and/or, standards in this kitchen. If the steak is timed, then the heat of the flame is inconsistent. If its gauged on color, the color standard is inconsistent. If it's based on a trained eye, then the training is inconsistent.
I'm going to use an educated guess, and surmise that the blame falls on inexperienced people in the kitchen, and poor training from the management. If you hire unskilled workers, then that is what your product is going to show. Most people who visit your restaurant wont know just how bad it is, because they dont want to believe that they had been douped out if their money. Your customer base is mostly people who are spoiling themselves for one reason or another, and dont realize just how mediocre the service and product are.
You product is rubbish, your prices are inflated, and the service is poor.
Your staff is undertrained, inconsistent ,and grossly mismanaged.
The standards from your kitchen, at your price point, should be stellar for your market.
You fall short on all fronts.
On a lighter note, the potato soup...
Read moreWe’ve had previous good experiences here, so for Valentine’s Day we decided to go all out starting with reservations at saltgrass steakhouse. We were so excited. When we arrived we were seated about 5 min after. Which was great!! The waiter took our drink and appetizer and food order. Smooth sailin. Then it went down hill like the Texas giant roller coaster. We finished our drinks before the app finally arrived. (Delivered by someone else) We wouldn’t see our waiter again for almost the rest of the night. I ordered my steak med rare but when left on the table by yet another different person it was almost completely well done and burnt on the edges. My baked potato was so over cooked there was almost no insides left when I opened it. I’m usually not one to complain when everything else was going okay. And I didn’t want to ruin our evening either so I ate the steak and left my sides. The breaded mushrooms are to die for though. But when our waiter came and apologized for how terrible the bar staff and kitchen staff was, I mentioned I needed another drink. He said he would get them on it right away. Another 20 min went by but still nothing. We finished our meal so I flagged down our waiter and told him I no longer needed the drink. We were finished and leaving and just wanted the check. He said “I think the bar already made it so I’ll have to still charge you” I said “I’m not going to be here to drink it so I’m not paying for it.” He said he would check on it. Then told me “they hadn’t even started it yet so it’s no big deal.” 20-25 min after I ordered it they hadn’t started it yet? At that point I was over it and just wanted to go back to my hotel room. Had the waiter been attentive at all, that restaurant could’ve made a LOT of money off of me. I was trying to have a good time. And I’m a good tipper. Too bad...
