We’ve been to Ted’s restaurants around OKC for many years but finally went for our first visit to Ted’s Tacos and Cantina Saturday night. The Wet Taco instantly became our favorite entree and the service and atmosphere was excellent!
I was surprised by how much seating there is inside and outside. There were lots of people dining but it didn’t feel packed.
There are some great fountain drink options that our kids enjoyed. I liked the cream soda but you must try out the Viva Sol Aguas Frescas Horchata drink! It has a sweet, cinnamon flavor. We also tried the Viva Sol Jamaica drink, which has a hibiscus flavor. A little bit goes a long ways and it was just too much for me.
Our kids went with the classic tacos that comes with two soft or crispy tacos. They chose soft shell with chicken.
We were with friends and they recommended The Wet Taco, so that’s what I ordered. We’ve had Birria tacos before and these were very good! It’s just the right blend of slow-cooked beef Birria and cheese on corn tortillas, grilled and comes with a bowl of beef consommé for dipping.
You also get chips, queso and salsa. But the real test is which table salsa you will use! There are three varieties, so there’s something for everyone.
We had a great meal and enjoyed visiting while our kids watched some of the sports playing on the TVs. We look forward to coming back many more times now that we’ve discovered this gem of...
Read moreMy grandma had been so excited for this place to open. However, when we went together for the first time we had a terrible time. The food is very overpriced for the quality you are getting. The cash register asks you for a tip before you eat and be warned the staff doesn’t really do anything to wait on you during your stay. They bring you your food and that’s about it. Even basics like ice in the ice machine were not taken care of and the tables were dirty. We asked for the table to be wiped down and the girl working only wiped down about half of the table top. It was kinda gross. When we got our food it was not good. I ordered the fajitas and they tasted like they had been microwaved. My grandma got the short end of the stick with cheese enchiladas, which were poor quality and inedible to her. My mom got the fish tacos and she didn’t like them. When asked by the manager how our food was we told him the truth that it was pretty bad. He blamed it on not having a plate warmer and spoke about how they used the microwave commonly on food. The food was priced too high for a microwave to be used. The manager didn’t offer to comp my grandma’s food even though she couldn’t eat it. He did offer to give her more food but we didn’t expect it to be any better the second time. The whole experience was a total...
Read moreI was craving Ted’s Café Escondido, but this location was closer, so we tried Ted’s Cantina. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations.
We were served on styrofoam plates with plastic utensils, which immediately gave off catered-event vibes — and honestly, the food tasted that way too. Not awful, just not fresh Ted’s. They used Mission tortillas instead of Ted’s house-made ones, and we got a small handful of chips and maybe 3 oz of queso in plastic to-go containers.
We split a fajita meal and had one drink, and it still totaled $22. If we had each ordered a meal and drink, it would’ve been over $50 easily, which didn’t feel worth it for fast-casual food on disposable ware.
To their credit, the fajita portion was solid — probably the best part of the meal. But the restaurant was nearly empty at noon on a Saturday, which didn’t inspire much confidence.
One thing that left a bad taste: after we didn’t leave a tip, the waiter noticeably treated us differently. I’ve worked in the food industry, and while I rarely expected tips when I wasn’t doing full table service, I never let it affect how I treated guests. That shift in attitude was disappointing.
Overall, if you want real Ted’s, you’re better off driving a little farther to the...
