Had lunch with my mom and she said someone from her church suggested this place. I ordered the New Orleans red beans and rice and she ordered the shrimp platter with fries. The prices were about $10-$12 for lunch but it was well worth it.
My red beans and rice also had andouille sausage, smoked sausage and chicken. It also came with a corn bread muffin. This was probably some of the best red beans and rice I have ever eaten. Very, Very flavorful and a perfect size for lunch. Just enough to leave full and satisfied.
I tried some of mom's shrimp and a few fries. The shrimp had a light batter instead of the normal hard panko-like crust you see on buffet fried shrimp. The fries were hot and extra crispy. Just what a fry should be.
As we were leaving they were preparing to deliver to a table some crawfish etoufee which looked incredible. I will probably try that next time.
The atmosphere was not really anything special, but really who cares. The waitstaff were extremely helpful and professional.
Overall, I would recommend The Crawfish Pot to anyone looking for a change of pace for lunch that incorporates really good food and modest prices. I will be going again soon.
UPDATE: I've been back at least 4 times since the original review. Trying something different each time. I did try the etoufee the second time I went in and it was excellent. The fried shrimp also excellent. The shrimp Caesar salad was a basic Caesar salad but the shrimp had a wonderful mild spicy flavor. Overall though, my absolute favorite was the fried catfish. I have tried catfish all over the state and this is by far the best I have ever had. The crust managed to feel somewhat light and yet extremely flavorful. I'll just say this, the chef's crust game on pretty much everything is top notch. You can also tell they change out the oil regularly. I did try the competitions catfish across the highway, Pier88. It was terrible (and was probably not fresh fish) and left that nice oil slick on the roof...
Read moreOrdered the $85 broil that included 1lb of Crawfish, Gulf Shrimp and King Crab. All of it was overcooked to the point where the crab was dried out and could not be pulled from the legs. Couldn't break the legs because it was cooked so much it became rubbery. When I managed to get the meat out it was shrapnel and rice like in texture. The shrimp wouldn't peel because the shell was sticking to the shrimp and was extremely difficult to eat as was the crawfish. I grew up in Louisiana, and I know good seafood and broils. This place was overpriced and poorly cooked. Cardinal sin of seafood is overcooking it, especially when you are charging $85-130 for it. I respectfully told our waiter that the seafood was terribly overcooked and could barely manage to eat it and the 1lb of crawfish was far less than any other place I've been. He told us he would get them to make me a new broil. He then returned to let me know that his manager said they could not remake it, but he would instead give me another Lb of crawfish and reduce the cost by 10%. Rather than loose my cool, we requested the ticket and left with at least half of the food uneaten. It was that bad. When you tell a server and his manager that your food is difficult to eat because it can't be peeled and they almost ignore you, that says something. $8.50 off a $100 tab is a joke, and so is the Crawfish Pot. There are other places neaby that have...
Read moreI really like The Crawfish Pot! It’s our go to place if we want to eat crawfish out and not have to deal with the mess at home. We always get the don (garlic butter) medium spice. It’s so much fun and we always eat our weight in crawfish! We get the clams once in a while which aren’t bad. We haven’t tried much of their other seafood since it’s pretty pricy. The Cajun fries are bomb! Super crispy and hot. The only time I wouldn’t go is off season/winter. We went last winter and both my fiancé and I got food poisoning after eating crawfish we weren’t really comfortable with even at the restaurant (you could tell they weren’t fresh and they were previously frozen).
Service wise, it’s usually pretty good. It all depends on the server you get. There have been a couple times that we’ve gone and either 1. been completely ignored (the WHOLE time we were there, and it took an hour to get our food) and then just some weird communication between the servers and the kitchen. Generally, though, I’ve had good experiences! I’ve been enough times that the good outweighs the bad and swayed my decision back to 5 stars. Try it out if you have the chance! Other places that have “amazing” crawfish don’t even come close to The...
