New American restaurants with a hip, fresh vibe are some of my favorite restaurants, so I was super excited to try this place out.
I went as part of a group of three on a Tuesday night for dinner. Because Kitchen Table is in Downtown Omaha, I was a little worried about parking. That turned out not to be a problem, though, since there were parking meters-- and open parking spaces!
Stepping into Kitchen Table is certainly a pleasant experience. The restaurant smells like a warm kitchen after a family member's been cooking for a while and the lighting and decor was tastefully done, with a trendy, warm, and hipster atmosphere. Think lights with a soft yellow glow, tons of wood, and mason jars galore. We were also welcomed by restaurant staff as we entered, which as an awesome touch.
You order your food at a register. Our cashier was extremely helpful with any questions we had regarding the menu - definitely ask if you want more info or clarification on menu items. Once we had ordered, we were able to find a table for our group immediately. However, as our meal went on, Kitchen Table got more busy and tables started rapidly filling up, so your mileage may vary.
I ordered "The Whole Bird" sandwich. The sandwich came relatively quickly, around 15 minutes or so. The sandwich came with popcorn on the side, which was a very welcome and healthy change from the standard chips you get at most places. The popcorn did seem like it had been sitting somewhere for a while, but that wasn't the biggest deal for me.
In terms of the actual sandwich, it was okay. Not the best sandwich I've had, but also not the worst. The sandwich scored points for creativity, ingredient freshness, and presentation. However, it definitely lost points for the seemingly massive amounts of salt in it, as well as the lackluster bread. Seriously, this sandwich was SO salty, and the bread seemed to get soggy quickly from all the ingredients. This sandwich wouldn't be one I would want to order to go.
All in all, I think this is a pretty good restaurant if you're in the mood for trendy, creative New American food at a relatively inexpensive price point in Omaha. The atmosphere of this restaurant is impeccable, and the food is good enough, but there is most definitely room to grow in the food department. I look forward to going back and trying...
Read moreMy family and I were in Omaha and decided to try some of the local restaurants. We came up with 2 try and this was the second one. And feelings were a bit mixed I really liked the meatloaf sandwich but I did think it was close to to much salt. But the overall taste and texture was delicious. My wife got the burger special I don't really remember what it was called but I thought it was really good. My wife was less impressed, this could be because we gad a Thanksgiving dinner earlier in the day and she was already on the fuller side. My 2 youngest had a kids PB&J I thought it was good I could tell it wasn't a store bought peanut butter and the bread was not a cheap loaf if bread from the store more like what my grandma made from scratch. I could have used a bit more jelly so I could really tell what it was. My oldest also had had the open pb&j it had a different bread I think it may have been sweeter then the sandwich the other 2 had. The burger had something else for a side then the popcorn that all the rest had. I am still unsure what it was but I liked it. Last but nit least the popcorn served as a side I love popcorn and this did not disappoint me. It is not your standard butter and salt there were many more flavors and I really liked it. I meant to ask what was on it but the kids were wanting to swim. Finally i saw they had homemade ice cream and one flavor was peach pie I had to get it. It was awesome the only thing that disappointed me was how little of it there was for the price half a scoop for $5. It was so good though, eating a peach pie with...

Before I begin, I need to set the mood in an all too human attempt at evoking what this sandwich has done. Firstly, dim the lights, get comfortable, and after these words run out I’ll ask that you press play on the track titled ‘What Light’ by Wilco. Now this review doesn’t start with a sandwich, but with a storm that snapped 1300 power line poles, and plunged us into a pre industrial hellscape against the bosom of triple digit heat. We’ll likely be without power for 8 days, we’re halfway. This sandwich was a seismic event for me that could’ve registered on the Richter scale. I’m not the same guy I was before I put this sandwich in my mouth. Now I don’t want to be rude, and I truly don’t feel I’m being too dramatic, but in the off chance your density rivals that of the black hole at the center of our galaxy, let me be clear, this is more than just a sandwich. Like the best creations, it’s done what few things have done throughout human history. It reminded me of my place on this rock hurling through space, of our insignificance, and our beauty. It reminded me that it’s all worth fighting for, it’s worth the pain, the love, the life. I don’t remember what it was like before I was born, or before I ate this sandwich. Please, I beg of you, treat yourself and let these good people do for you what they’ve done for me....
