Designed for locals If you live in Omaha, you probably love Block 16. If you're a tourist, you might want to pass. If you insist on going, Street View won't help you, pointing you to Table Grace Cafe, the restaurant next door that has prominent signage; Block 16, trying to discourage tourists, hides their sign behind a black screen. When you get inside Block 16, everyone is nice and friendly. If you order a burger, they'll even ask if medium well is okay. This is a trick. If you ask for medium rare, they'll be secretly laughing at you because they can't actually do hamburgers at any temperature other than well done. They're very proud of the Croque Garçon burger, and while it's a fine idea, they're being a bit gender queer with the sandwich. Normally it's a croque madame that comes with an egg on top, not the croque monsieur, and a croque madame is meant to be eaten with a knife and fork. The Croque Garçon probably would work better with a knife and fork too. It's a bit messy to pick up a sandwich with a runny yolk. I guess they could ask you how you want your egg and then laugh at you silently if you deviate from the default. Best hamburger ever, as others have said? No, not even if mine had been medium rare, certainly not with an overcooked dry patty not shaped to work with the admittedly tasty (ciabatta? mine doesn't look like ciabatta) roll (perhaps the best part of the sandwich). I don't know how they fooled Alton Brown. The wait for the food wasn't as long as they warned it might be, and the place is very LGBT-friendly, so if you are a local, it's probably a decent choice, if you're not getting a burger or they serve better ones to locals and Mr. Brown.

There's a reason Alton Brown has said this is the best restaurant in Omaha. It's the best one I've tried yet, and I regret I didn't try it sooner. I tried the 3 Happiness Burger, the Dragon Fries, and the Block Burger. All three options were beyond expectations. The 3 Happiness Burger had better Americanized Asian flavors than 3 Happiness Express, and that says a lot about both places! I was worried the cream cheese would be too much, but they found a way to keep it from overpowering the entire burger. The Block Burger was more traditional in its contents, but don't let that fool ya. It didn't hold back on flavor. I can't express enough how exciting it is to find a place in Omaha that can do a traditional burger correctly. The Dragon Fries were amazing. Spicy sauce, cheese, fries, and a touch of freshness from some green onion on top. What's not to like? The service was great and fast. You place your order at the counter, they give you a number to place on your table, and they bring the food to you. Also, they answered the couple questions I had with more detail than I was expecting despite being pretty busy. It really seemed like they wanted me to make sure I got items that would pair well together. The menu has things for pretty much anyone, but it isn't a massive menu. The layout makes it easy to make a snap decision on what you want. I'd recommend this place for anyone not watching their waistline looking for the best burgers and fries in Omaha.

Came here because of the rave reviews so maybe that’s why we weren’t as impressed as we expected to be. Overhyped maybe? Maybe we didn’t get the right things? Cowboy burger and gourmet grilled cheese with seasoned fries might be the most basic things on the menu, and perhaps the big fans of this place love the more adventurous options. We enjoyed the food, don’t get me wrong. We just didn’t think it was amazing or anything extraordinary. For just the food alone I would’ve given 4 stars because it was hot, fresh, and tasty. Exactly as advertised, no issues. I decided to go with 3 stars because of the wait to get our food. We went around 1:30 on a weekday and it wasn’t that busy. No line and plenty of open tables. Ordering at the counter of a restaurant and taking a number leads one to believe the food should arrive relatively quick. It took every bit of 30 minutes to get our two meals. I would hate to know how long it takes had we waited in a long line and the tables were all full as a lot of reviewers describe. We had no idea it would take so long until we sat for a few minutes and looked around noticing a handful of additional tables sitting there also waiting to receive their food. 30 minutes wouldn’t be bad if the atmosphere was different. You don’t get waited on and there’s nothing to look at, a pretty dull space. Definitely couldn’t make it in and out of here on a strict lunch hour. Glad we tried it, but won’t be dying to go back.

Update March 2025: still love this place!! First time ordering from their catering menu for our school staff appreciation week. They offer delivery or pickup. If you pickup there are a few 10 minute parking spots right out front that are perfect! Our staff had the "box lunch" options to choose from. There were almost 50 lunches they had prepared for our staff. Each box was individually labeled with their name and choices. Easy to carry bags made this experience even easier. From start to finish the communication and customer service was exceptional! We even had to postpone our order a day because of a school snow day and they were so gracious and accommodating! For the quality and quantity of food it's going to be hard to find a better deal! We got grilled cheese with plain fries, Nash fries, pulled pork sandwich, and fried chicken (one regular and one spicy). I loved my grilled cheese. They use cheddar, Monterey jack, and Gouda on sourdough bread. Hands down the best grilled cheese I've ever had. Perfect cheese to bread ratio and the bread is dense and toasted so it holds up to all the cheese. The fried chicken was standard good, my husband preferred the spicy. He thought the Nash fries were "bombtastic". You could make a meal out of them! The pulled pork sandwich was good.

Walk in, order, seat yourself.. very easy.. Decent amount of seating, and we really like the layout... This is farm to table food, the owner of this establishment, also owns the farm that supplies the food... We ordered Omaha fries....5/5 Absolutely amazing, both of enjoyed them, perfect amount of crisp with chew. generous toppings, we both would highly recommend these.. Poutine burrito.....5/5 shaved steak, what else is there, well, a lot... and it all comes together perfectly. I was seriously surprised by the way all the ingredients came together and without overpowering one another... Patty melt...5/5 Had one, had em all. Not exactly... We've had many over the years with varying degrees approval, this was delicious... I can almost always find something to complain about (as my followers know.lol) not this time... We highly recommend, and will be returning... I will be uploading short vids with details for y'all...

The place is kinda funky and has all sorts of interesting entrees centering around burgers mainly. The prices seem a little steep for what you are actually getting, but the food is cooked well and comes out pretty quickly. I had the Three Hapiness Burger which was interesting... and sort of impossible to eat. There were so many toppings and sauces that the whole bottom bun was saturated and the burger fell apart (on to my shirt) as I ate it. I love a big juicy burger, but these ones edge on needing a fork to eat... pretty sure I used about 20 napkins and still had sticky sauce all over my hands by the end. During colder days, I highly recommend sitting in the "extra room" area with the long tables as a giant blast of cold air hits you every time someone opens the door if you stay up front. The place is new and cool I guess, but it's just not that great in the end. I definitely wouldn't drive downtown just to eat there.
