Basket o’ Pork Rinds ($4.50) are a southern delicacy tossed in Moe’s dry rub and served with white sauce. These tasty pork rinds are made to order and have a snap/crackle/pop noise to them when ready. You can hear it well after it is brought to your table. White sauce is a mayo based sauce seasoned with Moe’s dry rub and other ingredients (sometimes referred to as “white BBQ sauce”). It reminds me of a southern flavored ranch dressing, but thicker and more robust. It is great for dipping both pork rinds and French fries. As a purest, I just love the pork rinds on their own with their crispy porky flavor. Rating: 5/5
Platters are served with cornbread, 2 sides, and a drink. The combo platter is a great way to try a couple of meats at one sitting. I chose Southern Fried Catfish, Ribs, House-Fried Chips, and Banana Puddin’.
Southern Fried Catfish is Alabama farm-raised, fried catfish fillets served with a side of homemade tartar. The catfish had a crispy, blistered, golden-brown exterior with a tender succulent interior. This is now in my Top 3 best fried catfish I’ve ever had! The flavor is very clean and does not taste like the catfish you get at the local grocery store. I can’t wait to get a full order of these next time! Rating: 5/5
Ribs are smoked slow & low and served with BBQ sauce and pickles. They are very tender and fall-off-the-bone great. They also have a beautiful smoke rings and smoky flavor. The rub adds a nice peppery flavor. The BBQ sauce is light, not too sweet and not too bold/robust. The seasoning and sauce really allow the pork flavor to shine through. Rating: 5/5
House-Fried Chips were ultra-crispy, not super thin, and dusted with seasoned salt. Once you eat one, it is hard to stop. I suggest getting your own side because you won’t want to share! Rating: 5/5
Banana Puddin’ was very light and tastes homemade. You can see the banana seeds inside the pudding like you would see vanilla bean flecks in a premium vanilla ice cream. It is so southern and will make you happy, happy! Rating: 5/5
The Jalapeno Cornbread is just a tad sweet with a good jalapeño flavor. You get a slight kick but it’s not overly spicy so you can enjoy the jalapeño flavor. The texture is just right, not to moist and not too...
Read moreAfter a few seafood dinners, it was time to diversify our meals on our week-long vacation in Orange Beach. Moe's Original Bar B Que is solid alternative choice, generous in portions, affordable and in a pleasant, friendly atmosphere, minutes from our condo. Coming from Memphis BBQ culture, it's hard not to compare smoking style, flavor and overall quality. But we are in Orange Beach and it was a great dinner. We chose the Sampler Platter for two, that featured most of what they smoke, except the Brisket. Huge portion, and enough left over for another meal. Loved the wings and sausage, same for the chicken thigh and leg, even though perhaps "over-smoked". The pulled Pork was good but didn't feature well the Rub, which made me think they might just smoke it with minimal seasoning. The Ribs were "falling off the bone" and good but may have not been smoked that day, or were held-hot too long. I noticed their Altosham was set at 165, which could explain why the meat had this overcooked feel (if that's possible) that sometimes BBQ has. At 165, meat continues to slowly cook where if you hold it at 135/140, it comes out still deliciously hot, without compromising after a few hours of holding, the quality of the Que at its peak of flavor and texture. I stole a bite of the chopped Brisket my mother in law was enjoying in a sandwich and I have to say that was my least favorite. It tasted more like smoked-flavored boiled Beef than the 12 to 14 hours slowed BBQ'ed Briskets I love. Again, perhaps a breakdown of original quality by the way it was held. Ok, so yes, I may have broken down this BBQ a bit more than what you wanted to read but there you have it. By the way, the Broccoli Casserole and the Au-Gratin Potatoes were excellent and real hot, the home-made chips a little over fried and old and the grilled cornbread was excellent. I would come back, good price-value, great, friendly and relaxed service so if you don't expect world-class BBQ, you will love Moe's. Oh, I forgot one last, but not least thing: loved the BBQ Sauce served warm; should be standard in all BBQ...
Read moreWe came here for the 1st time in July 2021 and literally for the last year have been looking forward to making it our 1st stop while on vacay in July 2022. Pulled into OB last night, unloaded our baggage at the condo and headed straight to Moe’s. Once again, Moe’s did not disappoint! The staff is upbeat, welcoming and super friendly. The smell coming out of this place will have your mouth watering before you get in the door. Prices may seem high for some, but I promise you get what you pay for and then some here! They don’t skimp on the servings and you will most likely find it hard to finish all of your food. Dishes and appetizers are large enough to be shared for sure! Side note: Leftover Moe’s for breakfast is always a Win Win! 😉
I was born and raised in Memphis, TN. & know good BBQ when I see/taste it. This place has some of the best BBQ I have tasted in all of my 47 years of existence on this Earth! 1st I have to start off by saying the place itself is like a hidden gem. Decor is a fun, hip, beachy-vibe. They have a HUGE, outdoor seating area with sand, corn hole boards and other games for young and old. The outdoor area is wonderful for small or large groups and families with kids (big & small). Truly a great place to hang out and enjoy the beautiful, Orange Beach weather while listening to some local musicians/bands. Another side note: My teens found the outdoor area to be the perfect selfie/photo-op place!
Long post yes, but I cannot say enough about Moe’s! If you love smack-your-Mama, smoked to perfection, mouthwatering BBQ or chicken, fish, juicy-delicious burgers, ginormous-shareable appetizers, tasty sides, yummy desserts and TO DIE FOR cornbread this place is for you! Moe’s has quickly become my families favorite place to eat in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, Alabama!! That is saying a lot given the number of fabulous places to eat here! I guarantee if you give Moe’s a try you will too! Thank you Moe’s for serving up the best tasting food I have ever had the privilege of putting into...
