We went to Weinhard Grill for the first time last weekend, on Father’s Day. We had an 11:30 reservation, were seated promptly, and then received no service (other than water) for 20min. We finally asked the hostess when we noticed all the tables around us (who were seated after us) had drinks and were being told to go get their food at the buffet, including a party of 7. We asked again and it was another 10min- a total of 30min from the time of being seated before anyone came to the table to take our drink order or tell us to go to the buffet. To add insult to injury, the party of 7 that arrived after us was ahead of us in line at the buffet, and by the time we got food there was (and I’m not exaggerating) no ribs, no chicken, no sausage, no pulled pork, no Mac n cheese and only a small end of tri tip. A staff walked by and I asked about refilling the stations- more chicken was brought out and the people behind me got a fresh tri tip, but nothing else. There were no tongs for the Caesar salad, rolls or corn bread and very few desserts at that time. This was all with an 11:30 reservation, I can’t imagine what it was like later in the day.
The saving grace was that all the food we had was very very good. The drinks also came out very fast once ordered, which we appreciated. My husband has been talking about going to Weinhards for a while and was pretty disappointed by this Father’s Day experience.
Overall, definitely not worth $40 a plate when you can’t try everything advertised. If they’re going to charge that much, they should ensure enough food is available (or replenished) often enough.
I did send an email to give this feedback directly, but didn’t...
Read moreA lackluster first impression. My girlfriend and I grew up in Oregon City and wanted to see how things had changed. We decided to have a late breakfast here at Weinhard Grill one Sunday morning, and well... It will be a hard sell to get us to come back.
The restaurant was clean, and the staff were friendly. But that is the end of the positives on this trip.
Let's start off with the wait when there were clearly open tables. You can teach the dedicated bussers, who were just standing around, to seat people while it's slow for them.
We always order the same thing when trying a new place. It's a good comparison. Here we got an unimpressive Weinhard Benedict, and a very disappointing Biscuits and Gravy.
The Benedict had a sauce with almost no umami to it, not enough lemon, and a faint onion taste.
The biscuits were one of the most disappointing iterations of that classic I've ever encountered. The gravy was plain, but the worst was the grainy, no body biscuit, and it left a strange musty impression. It was overly fluffy to the point of crumbling, had almost no expected flavors, and didn't even support the gravy.
I can't say that this place is bad, but it didn't leave me wanting...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this restaurant for lunch, attracted by the promise of something new. The place was clean, and the staff was friendly, setting a positive tone. However, the limited lunch menu left us wanting more, especially for the kids who were disappointed that some dishes were only available for dinner. We suggest splitting the menu for lunch and dinner and not just a “this column” not available before a certain time in which we did not realize until after ordering our drinks. If we had known that before ordering drinks we would have gone somewhere else that offered a larger lunch menu.
Despite this, the food and drinks we ordered were tasty, showcasing quality ingredients and culinary skill. We plan to return for dinner, hoping to explore the full menu and experience more of what this restaurant has to offer. With a few tweaks, it has the potential to become a go-to spot for a satisfying dining experience.
P.s. If you are not able to eat, a whole garlic clove, do not order the garlic fries. The garlic is so overpowering that all of eyes at the table were burning. I can eat whole garlic cloves, but these were a spicy...
