Never again will we visit this McMenamins. We like the chain usually and know that you don't go there to get fast service. However, no matter how slow, the staff at other locations are very sweet, relaxed, and nice. NOT HERE.
Not only did it take almost an hour and 20 minutes to get acknowledged, seated, and fed, we were treated extremely poorly.
While there I saw at LEAST three other couples arrive, be ignored, and walk back out without notice. They were quite busy, but we've been to other McMenamins which were equally busy and had no problem doing their jobs and being kind. I'm a big, tall gal and am fairly certain I'm not invisible, but these women ignored me (and others) masterfully. It takes WORK to avoid eye contact at that skilled a level.
To our specific experience: We waited standing inside the door for at least 10 minutes. It took at least 8 minutes for someone (the youngest of the servers) to acknowledge our presence and tell us it would be a few more minutes until we were seated. There was a group of 3 women in front of them and they didn't get acknowledged much either, but at least they got a smile and eye contact. Others who came in later were seated and served faster. One couple who came in about 30 minutes after us was taken in immediately, hugged, and given drinks in a blink. Guess you have to know someone.
Once we were seated, we were acknowledged with a head nod and a 'we're busy so it will be a few more minutes, and she just had two more tables in front of you'. The woman put down some menus and ran off.
Our server (an older woman who was curt and icy) literally said fewer than 15 words to us the entire time. This woman gave zero flying figs. At least 15 minutes after we were seated we were asked what we wanted to drink (not given water or anything upon arrival) and asked what we wanted to order for food at the same time. We ordered a glass of water and a soda water. It took her another 15 minutes to get it to us. She slapped some silverware and a napkin down with the drinks and ran away.
Cue another 35 minutes until we finally asked about the food. At this point it had been over an hour from front to back and we'd seen our server 2 times. At one point I tried to flag down another server to ask for more water (one refill). As she blew by the table she curtly said the other person would be right with us. Nope.
The food came. My burger was fine. My husband's sausage platter wasn't done and one of them was lukewarm.
Our server came by once more (because at this point it was after 2 pm and the lunch rush was over). I asked for the bill and a box at the same time, because we didn't know when we'd see her again.
The woman was SO RUDE I do not have the adequate words to describe how hurtful the experience was. I don't care if you're overworked and busy, etc. You make eye contact with people and acknowledge their presence. We were low maintenance. Only at about the hour mark did we ask about the food to make sure it was coming out/that the order was actually put in, and my husband - who is a saint and extremely patient - did it nicely. She was defensive and said in one breath, 'I don't know it depends on what you order other people just ordered salads and that stuff comes out faster I'll go check in a minute'. Gee, thanks. We weren't sure how a restaurant worked, but glad you bit our head off about it.
A smile would have done wonders. An acknowledgement that we weren't pestering her simply by existing would have been great. I've never seen a more tight-lipped, rude set of servers in my life. I have to give it to the young gal on shift because at least she smiled occasionally, but the other two would've rather shaved off our eyebrows and kicked us out the door than look at us.
We almost got up and left about four times. We should've - there are other restaurants within walking distance and I would've felt more validated as a human. Avoid this place...
Read moreA small place but amazing things come out of the tiny kitchen inside. I drop in for an occasional cup of soup or food special and I am rarely disappointed. They change out the specials often, to bring something new to the menu which is usually varied enough to provide something for both foodies and greasy-spoon types.
Clean tables and bathrooms, and small but good selection of foods on the regular everyday menu. The meat in their burgers was better when McMenamins first opened, but they have other choices that are good, and I don't think I've ever left a McMenamins hungry. I've even tried there vegetarian burger and it was good. Although, I do believe that was at another location down in John's Landing.
There isn't a lot of parking, but it is one of the few places in Oregon City where you don't have to plug a parking meter because there is a small parking lot shared with the courthouse. And depending on the time of day, you might even find that it is shaded during warmer weather.
Usually friendly service and the food is quick... except when it's summer weather and the patio is open in back which means the servers can be burdened with an extra 6 to 10 tables, plus those hiding out inside where the air conditioner keeps them cool, when it gets warm enough. It's then, that I find the service is often overwhelmed and slow. I've actually sat down and twice walked away to find another place to eat, with quicker service and less stressed out servers. After all, if it takes you 10 minutes just to get the attention of the server, or to try and order a beer or get a menu, it worries me that it will end up taking 35 minutes if I actually order food (if one could even manage to get the food order taken within the first 25 minutes of sitting there). Around the corner, at Ranee's, I don't think I've ever had to wait longer than 5 minutes to get a menu and/or a coffee or drink in front of me while...
Read moreDO NOT EAT HERE!!!! Just went for dinner and have not been in years. It took Teri G an hour and a half to get our order. It was 2 of us, we ordered burger and fries. She came back to our table after 40 minutes and asked US if she put our order in. Sits down next to me on the bench and she reeks of alcohol. Why she felt it was ok to sit down next to me I don’t know. Double checked what we wanted and put our order in again. We have only had 1 small soda at this point and she never offered another. We waited another 35 minutes. We were ready to leave and she finally brings the “food” out. Fries were burned, cold and hard as a rock. Both of our burgers were redressed. In other words buns cold everything sloppy and patty just barely warm. Teri G finally comes to see how the food is and we politely ask for fresh fries due to them being disgusting. She says to us well they are busy back there and I don’t know if they can. What!!!!!!!! 🤦🏻 We call when we get home to make a complaint to manager because by this time we realize how horrible that experience was. We get an employee on the phone that says she is the manager and nothing can be done about it. All of the other employees saw what she did and could not do anything about it. The employee said Teri G purposely had our food re-heated and did all of this on purpose. We said nothing while there and were completely nice to her. We are not the type to complain but this was astounding. We were not the only table she did this too either. To whoever the general manager is of this place you need to fire Teri G! I know karma will get to her but it needs to get to her fast!
A wonderful experience for my Birthday! 🤢🤦🏻 If I could rate this place -10...
