let me start off by saying I love this burger joint and have been going to the north Portland location for over ten years. I am not typically on this side of town but yesterday I drove by and was so excited to have q burger and told my boyfriend how amazing it was. I ordered a jr burger no onions, fries and a vanilla shake. pretty simple right? apparently not... they brought out the fries and shake which were amazing then the two burgers. when the guy told me what was on the burger he said Coney sauce. I read the menu three times and there was no description on any burger what came on them or that this sauce was chili. I assumed the sauce was a mayo based spread. wheb the burger cane it had chili which I do not like I asked to have it remade but apologized for not knowing what the sauce was bc he made sure to tell ne that he said there was Comey sauce on it three times. I said I would just eat it anyways bc how rude they were but they insisted in remaking it. bevause I djdnt want any issues in reminded them that the ori original burger have no I mean at this point the shop angrily came out and said started listing off each thing that was on the burger and asked me how I wanted it to the point where I almost started crying I said all I didn't want was no onions and no chili I wanted everything else finally the burger came out it had nothing on it no cheese no spread no mayo no tomato all it was as if he should meet some shreds of lettuce and pickles I tried to eat a anyways but it was literally so dry and disgusting I had to ask for I had to ask them if they why there was nothing on it at this point they were so mean to me that I just left the burger there on eating and left I didn't pay you $6 for a burger with nothing on it I've never been treated so badly in a restaurant or establishments in my entire life literally ever the girl working was so disrespectful and so is the cook the only kind of nice one was the younger boy I've never written a bad review like this either I honestly don't understand why you would be that rude to a customer I'm a server and bartender and I have never in my life been that disrespectful and somebody has something wrong or I mess up on something though they offered me to give me a cold slice of cheese to slap on my own burger that was when I realized they obviously we're going to be of no help and just left before I started getting really mad please don't go here it was a wonderful restaurant they make great Burgers but the way they treat their customers is absolutely...
Read morefirst time here, workers here were nice enough, but the layout is sort of confusing. theres a walk up window facing 1 of the 2 parking lots but apparently youre meant to go inside to order. theres also a back door thats also an entrance to the "lobby" but doesnt look like one. theres a vague menu outside but inside theres the same menu with added details under each item.
i got a burger + fries. the food was ready a little faster than i expected, seems like they put forward an effort. the burger was very moist, the bun started getting soggy before i was half done, it did taste good though. the fries were really thin, & i think unseasoned.
id recommend chopping the fries a little thicker so they have some body, some fluff on the inside to contrast a crispy exterior. dunno if they chop their own or if theyre frozen prechopped. as far as the sogginess, maybe its the patty leaking juices, maybe its the lettuce washed too recently or the tomato condensation if they keep those chilled, or wet pickle chips? maybe all?
it was $11.75 for reg burger small fries & med drink. pretty competitive pricing i guess, dont feel ripped off but dont feel like its an amazing deal either.
anyway, standards are low around this part of town so not bad considering. id come back.
edit: been back since, the long dog was smaller than i expected, sharpie for comparison in the photo, but it tasted decent. i probably would get the sausage dog, but idk if i want to spend almost $7 for a hotdog. the regular hot dog was the same price as the burger, but oz for oz i think you get more with the burger. if im in the area again ill...
Read moreIf you've been to Roake's, you know what to expect. The food hasn't changed in over 25 years. My husband lived about 2 miles from the Roake's on Mcgloughlin from 1995/96-2016, then moved back to Portland a few years ago. According to him, nothing has seemed to change, and that's awesome! There's only 1 thing that needs to be updated, and that would be the dining area or lack of one. There's a tiny indoor dining area with a handful of tables, which are all only 2 top and another small, covered area outdoors with a couple picking tables. That being said, they do keep the tables inside clean... The food is really good but it's not for everyone. It's far from focused on health and counting calories. You won't find anything vegan, no wheat grass or soy! It never has and never will cater towards new age hippies or any other uptight yuppies who have no idea what good, old-fashioned, meaty, saucy, awesome food is and should be! If you like the type of food they make, you won't be disappointed! Their milkshakes are awesome as well! If you do want to get some of their great meaty goodness, but you need a place for your kids or maybe your grandma to sit, this location might not be the best choice. They have 1 other location in North Portland off of Lombard, it has a normal dining room with booths and larger tables. That location is far better in terms of seating and being...
