Not a vegan, so let this be a clear signal to anyone who likes food, vegan or not. The food at SVK is terrific!
We tried the sampler plus some sliders so we got a cross section of a lot of things.
The Brisket made from jackfruit is drop dead amazing. It’s tender and feels like shredded brisket. And not just any brisket, a brisket cooked for 18 hours so it’s fall apart tender. Served up on sliders with the perfect amount of slaw and a pickle. The bite is tender, crunchy, balanced. We live too far away to come back tomorrow for lunch and that’s a shame, cause I’d eat these every day!
The Jerk tacos are super flavorful. This is really the only place that you can see what looks like a mushroom. Every bite is a blend of warm savory jerk spices on super tender mushrooms mimicking the tenderest ground beef, mixed with the slaw and pineapple chunks. I’d be overjoyed if tacos tasted this good whenever we go to food truck events! Warning for the mild crowd, the jerk has a good kick.
The chicken sliders really work. Oyster mushrooms are unique for their texture, making them able to mimic pulled pork or other tender meats. Breading is crispy and again, placed on the perfectly balanced slider with slaw and a pickle slice. You get a choice of sauces, try them all. I went with bbq and the wife went with the hot honey.
For sides, the mac and cheese is better than most non-vegan mac and cheese. Made with cashew butter and seasonings that give it a warm gooey texture. The street corn is also a hit. Just a bit of warm spices that makes for a really comforting spoonful.
We are food adventurous and this was a terrific find. The owner and his wife obviously put a lot of love and care into crafting dishes for a perfect bite blending textures and flavors.
One note on finding them, they are in a building that has a bar in front and stalls for multiple restaurants in the back. Don’t be shy, just go on in.
Forget that it’s vegan, just go and get some...
Read moreOh boy, do we need a Soulicious on the west coast! Please people, make sure to give Soulicious their flowers and give them a visit.
I was in town and heading back when I remembered the vegan food options at the airport were very limited and I was bound to starve. I saw Soulicuous had just opened up and gave my man Devon a call. He excelled my expectations for customer service and had an entire buffet ready to go, I received my order and got picked up for the airport within MINUTES. I got to enjoy the lovely food in the airport (ordered some extras for the long flight home, did i starve during my 8 hour travel day? Nope!)
The Chickn was soooo crispy and full of flavor, the Mac n cheese was spectacular. I remained full for the entire day. Thank you Devon and Soulicious for your existence, hope to...
Read moreJust try it! Vegan or not you will be impressed. This review comes from a fat guy who has ran a couple of commercial kitchens and who is trying to make the transition once again to being vegan. My first attempt I said the only thing that I really missed was chicken wings. I stopped at Soulicious for lunch and they got my business 2 days in a row and any day I am in the area from now on. I can’t begin to describe how great the food was. In my opinion there was zero sacrificing of flavor or texture, I would put the “chicken” mushroom sandwich I had today up again any chicken sandwich out there. The service was awesome and you can taste the love for their craft in every bite. Thank you Soulicious for making my lunch one that set the bar for all of my...
