UPDATE 8/17/2025: This has been my go to sushi bar but is my never go to again sushi bar. Yoshi sold the place and retired and has turned into a roll factory. A common ailment of Chinese or Korean owners.
I stopped by last night, a Sunday and I was looking forward to a quiet dinner at the sushi bar. I arrived a little after 7pm closing was 8pm. I ordered a sashimi special, soft shell crab tempura and a Nigori sake.
The sashimi arrived before the appetizer. And the first few pieces were delicious. My crab arrived and it was more "Southern fried" than tempura but tasty none the less. There were a few other folks at the bar, but they left ahead of my. I was in no rush and told the waiter I would be ordering more off the ala cart menu and was perusing the fish laid out in front of me. At around 7:30 the place went into shut down mode! All the fish was wrapped in plastic and swept away. I was maybe half way through my meal! They were disassembling the fixtures behind the sushi bar and I felt absolutely insulted by this extremely rude behavior. Then I attempted to down the last of 4 2 slice portions of fish. It was horrible! I told the chef that the fish was dred out, inedible and I wanted a replacement. He proceeded to make some takeout rolls and completely ignored my request. Eventually I asked again and was informed it was albacore tuna and I told them I was inedible Albacore. Eventually they replaced the two pieces. Then the mops and buckets came out and the time was 7:50. I quickly paid and left, but not before admonishing the Chinese owner, that if you post closing at 8pm it doesn't mean you turn out the lights and leave. It is when you start the process of closing. You don't start mopping the floors while customers are still eating. I left disgusted!
MY ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I have been a customer for 9 years or so and discovered they were open for take out during the Corona crisis.
The full menu is available and everything on the menu is available and as good or better then when eating in.
I had checked some of the Corona Virus web sites and their own to see if there was any mention of them being open, but I decided to call and I was delighted when they answered the phone.
Being able to eat food from my favorite Tucson restaurant does help to make the corona crisis a bit...
Read moreJust so you know, they do not have a waitlist and they are super busy on the weekends. You can expect to wait outside for your table. We ended up sitting at the sushi area side-by-side for our experience. They do not have vegetable spring rolls. Please look at the menu before you decide to try out this restaurant, I let my boyfriend pick this restaurant as he said he googled it. However, when I had looked at it, it had mixed reviews and I could definitely see why. The soup to me is hard to figure out what they have but it looks like they do broth on one side noodles on the other. They don’t mix the two so if you are expecting a Ramen type dish that is not something available at this restaurant. The sushi ended up being a little bit tough and tasteless. My boyfriend got the tuna Nagri and it had a metallic flavor. They did have Wagyu sushi, but it was not on the menu, but we could see it in the sushi glass. Definitely something to purchase when they have but he torched it with the butane flame and you can definitely tell based off the flavor.
The service was horrible. We consistently had to ask for a drink refills and our check so the whole experience took about 2 1/2 hours.
Giving three stars due to the company and atmosphere of the restaurant. The sushi chef was...
Read moreSo I read previous reviews and totally was convinced this was the place to visit. Kids were swimming so I didn't want to spend a lot of time getting ready so I decided an order to go... The young lady that answered the phone was very nice, she told me my order would take between 20 and 25 minutes. My call was at about 5:00 pm and yes I read they are busy then, I told her no rush, but I would be there in about 30 minutes. I did, the place was busy and reviews were accurate, small and tight seating. Anyways, the lady charged my credit card and started to explain what I was getting, but she realized my order was very short, like two full rolls and part of a sushi combo. It took another 30 minutes to get my food, I felt like I was on the way standing by the cashier so I decided to wait outside. Finally I ran out of patience and walked back in, the same nice lady said my order was finally ready and she was sorry about the wait... so was I. As for the food it was ok nothing out of the ordinary, I moved here from LA so o know a thing or two about sushi. Not bad but not grea, price is moderate also. Again is my experience...
