Thanks to Yelp recommending this spot, my partner & I decided to try it out. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and didn't have a reservation, but we were seated promptly.
The place was a little snug, with my seat close to another guest who was behind me, so I just needed to be more careful when getting out of my chair. There was also AC which cooled us off from the heat, but I will make a mental note to bring a light sweater next time as it was a tad too cold sitting in my gym leggings & thin short sleeve shirt.
We had a kind server who suggested for us to try the Elote Nachos and the Crispy Nashville- Arizona Chicken Sandwich for our first visit. While her advice was appreciated, we wanted to pick something else. We ordered the Queso Fundido with mushrooms for our starter (the mushrooms can be replaced with chorizo), and my partner ordered the shrimp tacos for himself. As for me, I was curious to try their Sonoran Burger and asked the waitress how spicy it was- given that I can't handle anything above mild. She claimed that it wasn't spicy at all, even with the green chiles, and I'm happy to say she was correct!
Everything came out so well, but my burger was the standout. So easy to chew and well-cooked, I didn't take the chilis off either. It was a lunch I would love to try again. I had a bite of the shrimp tacos and they were okay, though not outstanding like how I found my dish. The Queso Fundido was good too, although it was served to us last, which was strange since it's an appetizer and we predicted it to be given to us before either of our main meals.
We were given hot towels after we were done eating, which is a smart move because a lot of these entrees are hand-held, and it makes the restaurant stand out in terms of hygiene. This Latin-inspired location is great to take friends & family for a nice lunch, as it is a taste of the culture that Tucson...
Read moreSo, I've been waiting for Redbird Scratch Kitchen + Bar to open for many months. They finally have opened and I wanted to give them a week to work things out before going to try them out and give them an honest review.
First impressions when we pulled up was the two garage doors allowing people to sit outside and also enjoy fresh air when inside. The interior is modern and casual. Our waitress was great, was quite knowledgeable, and went out of her way to find out some information that I had asked her about the food, thank you. Sergio stop by to ask us how our meal was at the end which is always a good thing for an owner or manager to do. I find most owners or managers do not do that much anymore so thank you Sergio. The kitchen is open so you get to hear the chefs/cooks work which I like in restaurants.
Now on to the food. I felt like everything was made from scratch, which was great! My son had macaroni and cheese which came with waffle fries and fruit, which he enjoyed very much. I also found it to be enjoyable as well. My wife had a shrimp taco and the birria taco, which she thought both were quite good. I ordered the Nashville Hot Arizona Chicken sandwich. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was not too spicy, but spicy enough. The bun was also good which is also an important piece of the overall food experience. We also ordered chips and salsa with guacamole. Everything was fresh and tasted very good. We also ordered the street corn which I thought was quite good but could have been toasted a bit more to my liking but it was fresh corn and great taste. I also had an amber beer which was good.
We will definitely be back to try something new! Thank you for opening and creating a good atmosphere with good food. If you decide to open another location in the future, think about...
Read moreThe food service and atmosphere are truly amazing. This is a one of a kind restaurant and definitely not a franchise and definitely a scratch kitchen. If you’ve ever watched top Chef, you will feel like you are in a celebrity experience. The service was amazing and they take reservations, even though they just opened, which is truly phenomenal and what makes this restaurant set apart from every other restaurant that opens in Tucson. We came here for our weekly date night and the service was phenomenal. We were treated like family and everybody was helping everybody else empty plates do refills and make sure our food came out in a timely manner, we can’t wait to come back. If you like burgers, nachos, pretzels, and french fries, this place is definitely for you I’d highly recommend ordering their pretzel, which is which is made from scratch i.e. in the name, scratch kitchen. And if you are going to get french fries, they do the waffle fries and I’d highly recommend getting a topping of cheese as well. My boyfriend ordered the wings and they were truly hot and spicy which were his favorite. You can expect to pay three dollars for drinks they have iced tea, passion tea and green tea and they have Coke products. Appetizers are anywhere between $10-$20 and food is also averaging that as well for two people on date night we spent 60 bucks with an appetizer 👌
It was nice. The owners were also at the restaurant as well as several managers, and the back of the house was truly amazing with the software they utilize for orders to get them out in a timely manner, and make sure everybody is greeted at the same time checking in on everybody on a regular basis . The bar is quite packed always for just opening, so definitely recommend...
