Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Osage Beach

Besides waiting 40 minutes for our that sat in the window for 5 minutes. The amount of food and debris you could have filled up a trash bag, which all of the trash cans that I could see were over flowing onto the ground.

The ground itself was super slippery and sticky with no wet floor sign. The bathrooms are what I would expect at a free camp ground, with toilet paper and liquid of some sort on the walls and floors. Table was wet and sticky despite being just sanitized. Wait staff seemed like it was their first day.

Except for one gentlemen that observed take his sweet and precious on everything he did. Including while ringing a customer out while proceeding to chew the dirt from under his fingernails and then stick said finger into his ear and went to work putting food in the window.

Manger on duty had a smile on her face the whole time, helping seating customers and wiping down tables. However seemed unconcerned with ticket time and what her staff was doing.

I went to this particular steak and shake 4 months ago and witness same lack of just caring how your restaurant looks. I thought it was a horrible fluke but it turns out I was wrong.

We walked in and a gentlemen (manager) started to take us to a table, stopped, backed up, handed our menus to a waitress, told her " raise your head and smile, these people are waiting on you" and he walked away. This sweet girl took us to a booth and walked away. An older grey haired lady walked by our table and as she did so, threw 2 packets of silverware on our table as she passed by. About 5 minutes later the older lady came back and asked us if we knew what we wanted. We told her we did and also asked if we could get some water. She took our order and walked away. Normally steak and shake has very quick service. We waited and waited. We see the cook come out and start talking to other employees then we see her start to clean the grill. At this point my husband and I are looking at our waitress like " why is she cleaning the grill?" Our waitress looks at us, goes over to the grill, looks at us again and says "I don't know what is happening." We get up to walk out ( we had waited 20 minutes) and she yells " your order is cooking now " as she is ripping our order off of her tablet and sticking it up for the grill person to make (who had a grill brick on the grill she was scrubbing clean, no order in sight.) My family and I went here after a robotics tournament because of good experience with other locations. The food was decent though my daughter couldn't finish her macaroni and cheese because there were some hard noodles. The service was lacking, with the server forgetting the Mac and cheese initially and not coming back once to see if we wanted refills.

No flatware was given to us until we asked, though that may be policy based on what the customers order. I like to cut my burger in half and like using a fork to get the last of my ketchup (Or is it catsup? Is one more sophisticated than the other or is it a regional spelling thing? Ah well)- drenched fries.

The real bright spot during our visit was the manager showing he isn't afraid to take charge. The store wasn't horribly busy but there must have been a rush right before we got there because there were a significant number of tables that had not been bussed. The manager walked out and began doing one himself while verbally motivating the wait staff to get to work clearing tables.
