Oysters were excellent, as was the octopus. The lobster tail was overcooked. It is a very pricey item to cook badly and then serve. We were there meeting family because it's about halfway between where we live and we have loved our previous visits. After the meal we wanted to order desserts. We were told that we had to go next door to get desserts. Apparently, the owner opened a gelato and bakery next door and wanted everyone to go there for desserts. We are were told that taking our bill there would give us a 20% discount on desserts. We thought that was not a terrible marketing idea, so we went. It turns out it was actually a couple of doors down, not that big a deal. However, once inside, we discovered there was one couch and 4 stools for seating. That was the extent of what they could accommodate. There were already people seated so there wasn't room for our party. I wasn't going to eat tiramisu standing, and the seats were already taken. We were then told the discount only applied to gelato and not to any other desserts. That is why I rated the atmosphere and service low. I was treating the 2 businesses as if they were a single restaurant since that's they way they wanted to operate. Our server at Beach House was actually very good, but the experience was soured by the way It ended. We'll still be meeting in Ottawa but at a...
Read moreMy experience with The Beach House started with the ease of reserving a table online. I started with two and bumped the reservation to five the following day. Again…very user friendly on Google. Our table was was being cleared when we arrived and the wait was less than 2 minutes and the place was full. The food was amazing. Started with the ribeye bits, crab cakes, and lobster rolls for appetizers, which were all good. I ordered the shrimp and grits and will order this the next time. Plenty of flavor and they don’t skimp on the shrimp. Two in my party ordered sushi bowls and were all happy with their choice. If I could have rated this place 4.9 stars I would. The only downside was the pina colada was weak and bland and I stopped at one due to this. The lobster bisque soup was just blah…won’t order again. The manager/owner did ask how our meal was but her ask felt ingenious…seemed to be just checking the box. I didn’t catch her name nor do I know if she’s the owner or employee because she didn’t stick around long enough. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and took care of the table well. It’s a little pricey which doesn’t matter to me if the food is good….which it was. This is a great addition to Ottawa’s beautiful downtown…I’ll be dining again at the...
Read moreFirst off, waiter was nice and understanding regarding the first issue.
Calamari was chewy, even after asking for a fix. Seasoning was nice, the tentacles were perfectly done. Portion could be a tad bigger but good prices are going up so maybe ok.
Asked for one of the fish specials and got the Cajun blackened version, I could only taste salt. Lots of seasoning == lots of salt. At this point I just ate as fast as possible, paid and left. I didn't want to stretch it out any longer
On the plus side the coconut rice was nice.
Price to performance here is way off. I can see what you're going for but the quality just isn't there yet.
Owner, I know you might want to respond to this defensively (as seen in other responses) and say something about fixing it in person, but some of us are pussies and we chicken out after sending back one plate 👍 having to send back two is just honestly embarrassing.
I think the place has potential, but i suggest you sit down and actually taste the food coming out of your kitchen. Maybe I had a legendarily bad combination, but if you're gonna bill yourself as a high quality seafood restaurant, this stuff shouldn't've happened. I mean Olive Garden can handle calamari!...
