My mother and I dined here Oct. 7, 2021. We had reserved a table at 7pm, arrived at 6:45 and were still seated immediately.

We had been looking forward to coming here for some time now. This dinner was a special treat for ourselves, and we had very high hopes! We had the charcuterie and cheese appetizer, served on a big ol rock. The meats, especially the chorizo, are fantastic. The cheeses are all delicious, and the sauce, mustardo, and pear really make some great combinations of flavor. Way more than enough for 2, this is better suited to maybe 4 or more. Didn't stop me though.

Next were the Caesar and house salads. Both of which were great, however I felt uncertain about my choice after tasting the red wine house dressing. Loved it.

My mother got a Kansas City strip, yukon mashed potatoes, and asparagus. The steak is seasoned and cooked to a wonderful medium rare with a nicely cut fat portion. The potatoes are light and creamy... the asparagus has a nice lemon butter taste. I rate the dish a 9/10, and when I asked my mom for a rating mid-bite she replied, "OhmyGOD!"

I got the Cajun Spiced Pan Roasted Filet. This beauty nearly melted itself onto the plate, it was so tender. It was only held together by the heavenly seasoned char crust, deceptively paper thin, which upon cutting into, the whole atmosphere of the restaurant changed as clouds immediately formed and parted above me, doves and brilliant light shone down, temporarily blinding other patrons. Temporary pandemonium is a small price to pay for a filet that tastes this good.

The only thing better than the food here was the service. Our server Mei was truly impeccable. She was very inviting, helpful, and polite to a fault. Our glasses never ran empty and our plates were always cleared at the right time. Even though she was busy with other tables as well, we felt like she was helping only us. Absolutely top-notch service.

Couldn't have asked for a better...

We went to j. Gilberts on Saturday for my fiancé's 36th birthday. I did a reservation through OpenTable that let me put in the occasion we were celebrating. The host immediately asked whose birthday was it? The person who seated us and the server wished him happy birthday with a card saying dessert was on them. Beautiful start to the evening. We both did the prix fixe. His salad and my lobster bisque were great. The complimentary bread was un-exceptional. My man got the ribeye and I got the filet. His ribeye was beautiful with gorgeous grill marks and shine but I tried it and it had no flavor. My filet was dry so I took one bite and that was it. My dinner is sitting in a container that my man said "we can give to the dogs". My green beans looked elegant but there was no flavor. I wanted to tell our server but he didn't want it to become awkward and said it was a learning experience. His side of macaroni and cheese was great he said. The sorbet he had and the creme brulee I had as our last course of the prix fixe was wonderful. The free dessert we did to-go of chocolate cake with raspberry ice cream was delicious...per my man tonight. What was really hard to swallow is we've been to San Francisco and Catalina island and never dropped $250 for such an anti-climatic entree. I can say last years Season 52 birthday dinner with steak was so much better and I really feel that if we had went to Texas roadhouse we would have enjoyed the entree more. Honestly, with the discerning tastes of Leawood I was confused we were the only one...

Had a reservation for 7:15 on a Saturday. Busy, but immediately tended to. The service was impressive, immediately being seated and already having waters and asked for our next preference. Moving on, Alex was likely the best server we have encountered in a long time. He was absolutely on his game, never saw our table in need or service, needing prompting, or fail to make sure everything came out on time (and all together), which I do consider fairly notable. Considering how packed it was and that it is absolutely easier to have foods requested to come out together (that do not normally), we consider that incredibly important in our dining experience. Service from him absolutely made the time there sublime and quite impressive. No random interruptions, just silently stepping in and seamlessly doing a remarkable job. He catered to every need and request, while none were complicated or overbearing in any way, he did not hesitate or appear forgetful. Onto food. The food was delicious. Oysters were delicious, the steak (8 oz. filet mignon) was plated at a proper medium rare with a delicious slight outer medium crust, and the vegetables were cooked with precision (not over/undercooked, easily done with asparagus and other hearty greens, unclear why), with generous/appropriate amount in proportion. From start to finish, we do not regret last minute reservations, the food was impressive and fresh, drink glasses never low or watered down, with service far above average. We will be returning here and certainly hope to have Alex...

I was invited with a party of 16, excited for a special evening, but unfortunately the experience fell far short of my expectations. On the positive side, our waiter was truly fabulous—welcoming, kind, informative, and attentive. Service was the highlight of the night. The starter salad was also very good, fresh, a twist on vegetables with a creamy vinaigrette, and flavorful, and honestly ended up being the best part of the meal. The entrées, however, were extremely disappointing for the price point. My plate was $80 and consisted of a mound of seasoned perfect mashed potatoes, four small asparagus spears, and crab cakes that tasted and looked as if they came straight out of a frozen box from Costco. Now I could be a tough critic because I have had some spectacular crab cakes. Drinks were very pricey, which added up quickly. To top it off, the crème brûlée—a dessert that should be served warm with a freshly torched sugar top—was served cold. Who serves cold crème brûlée? I didn’t eat it at that point!!! When all was said and done, I walked out having spent $125 for just myself, and the value simply wasn’t there. The food quality did not match the cost, especially for a fine-dining establishment. The server deserves praise, but unfortunately the kitchen and pricing left much to be desired. Let the photos speak for themselves. Also, a little jazz, classical, or instrumental music over the Muzak would have been nice, I mean we are paying enough for it, right??? I’m sure yall can afford it!!

My wife and I went there for our anniversary this evening. It's a restaurant that friends have been talking to us about for years and has a reputation for being quite pricey but for also having excellent food, I guess that's why we were both so disappointed. A nice thing was that they gave us an anniversary card that included a complimentary dessert. We chose to both do the $64 fixed price menu each having the crab bisque, one of us had a 12 oz ribeye, added a salad, and the other the rack of lamb, and additional desserts because they came with the fixed price menu and they couldn't waive one of the desserts, I guess. The steak came with mashed potatoes and a small bunch of asparagus. The Lamb came with risotto and some greens. The lamb and steak were cooked perfectly and the sauce for the lamb was good. Fortunately, though, the whole rest of the main entree was just blah. I would have expected a nice salt and pepper more garlic rub of some kind on the meat, but it seemed to be unseasoned. The potatoes had a strange gloss to them as if they were not fresh. The risotto was relatively flavorless and we had to scrape every bit of butter we could find on the table to add to it and also add quite a bit of salt and pepper to bring up the flavor. Overall, very disappointing. I had what was supposed to be a bourbon, neat, double, and even if was not measured up to my standard. A very disappointing $200 meal. Would not recommend.
