Becca Bakes — Restaurant in Owensboro

I initially contacted Becca Bakes on Nov. 25th asking if she would be able to a cake for Dec. 16th, which she said she could. I was excited to try her out because she came so highly recommend! We continued our conversation via text per her request where I outlined colors, flavors, etc. I even did a rough mock up drawing of what we wanted the final product to be. She was great and she was able to do it! I sent her a text the day before pick up just to ensure we were all set.

When we went to go pick it up my son & I were so excited! Every year we sit down and draw out what he wants and he looks forward to seeing it come to fruition! It’s one of the few things in life we splurge on. The lady at the front counter went to retrieve our cake and set it on the counter in front of us.

When I saw the cake from the side I thought that maybe she grabbed a different order she might’ve been working on before we arrived or something- I didn’t recognize it. It was not the color nor the style we had discussed. It looked like a regular white cake that perhaps she had made for something else, and added the logo we wanted to the top last minute.

I said “Oh, is this our cake? This isn’t what we were expecting. It was supposed to be red and have my son’s name on it?” The lady, presumably a teen helper, at the register said “yup” with a blank stare. I am at fault for not saying more in that moment, but it was my son’s birthday and there wasn’t any way for a different cake to be made in time at that point, so I just took my loss. Making a big deal out of it would’ve upset him more.

However, my son was SO disappointed and it broke my heart. He cried on the way to his party. I always try to be forgiving and give grace in situations where people make mistakes like this, but seeing my child so sad, especially on his birthday, hurt.

The cake we had agreed upon was all red, with a black drip trim, black lettering, his team logo, and “Happy Birthday” with his name & age on it. Instead, we received a white cake, with the dripping detail & logo, with no name/age/Happy Birthday. It literally looked like they had forgotten our order until I texted the day before, and used a cake they had previously prepared for another event and just threw on a couple of details we asked for. The style of cake didn’t go with the theme we were going for so it just made for an awkward looking cake. The cake was very dry inside, another reason why I think it had been prepared ahead of time.

If she had forgotten our order I really wish that would’ve been communicated, or if they accidentally did the wrong color maybe someone could’ve came and apologized. If she has been too busy, she should’ve told me that when I initially messaged her. I understand things happen, but no one even tried to make it right.

I was still charged full price.

Looking back I still probably wouldn’t have said more than that the day of his party to again avoid added issues, but in hindsight I wish I had called back to complain. I have been stewing over it since it happened especially since people continue to recommend them to me. I do however feel like the shortcomings should’ve been communicated to me before hand so I could find another baker or they at the very least apologize for their obvious...

I have a very mixed review. We had her booked for our wedding cake and cupcakes in advance. I had driven from Evansville to Owensboro just to pay in full a couple days before our wedding date. She had a set pickup time that my in laws would come and pick the items up. I received a call on my wedding day from my in laws that our wedding cake and cupcakes were not ready when they went to pick them up the day of wedding. They had mentioned she was confused. Becca had said on the phone that she had “forgotten” to make them for our wedding, which was very stressful for me as the bride because I had paid in advance a couple days prior and it was the day of our wedding. She wanted them to wait around for over an hour while she made them but they couldn’t because of the wedding. She originally said she couldn’t deliver them because she had other weddings but she did end up having them delivered later on. The delivery was made later on as the reception had started. Becca is amazing! She makes cake for all of our family events and she always knocks it out of the park!

We had the BEST experience with Becca Bakes for my daughter’s 6th birthday cookie decorating party! 🎉 Becca was absolutely amazing with the kids—patient, fun, and so creative in teaching them how to decorate. She kept their attention the whole time and made it such an engaging, hands-on activity.

To top it off, she surprised the kids by breaking out a karaoke machine at the end, and they had an absolute blast singing and laughing together. It was the perfect mix of structured fun and free play, and the kids are still talking about it!

If you’re looking for a party that’s unique, memorable, and so much fun, I can’t recommend Becca Bakes enough. Thank you, Becca, for making Elli’s day so...
