Upon entering, we were informed that there was a problem with the hibachi and that it would be a long wait. Thankfully, we were there for sushi, so that didn't bother us, but I appreciate that they were up front with the issue.
The atmosphere was noisy as the place was packed, but there was enough sound dampening that my wife, daughter, and I didn't need to yell to talk to one another.
The decor is interesting with a concert-style light rail hanging in the middle of the room with lights and TVs mounted on it. The TVs were playing 70s through 90s rock, which was a fun bit of nostalgia.
Now for the service... hoo boy.
The waitress was cheerful and personable. No problems there.
But then came the wait... it took 45 minutes for our food to come. In that time, three tables around us were seated and left because they had not been approached by a server. While personable, our server never came back to the table until just before our food came out and my glass of tea sat empty for nearly 20 minutes before a different server stopped at the table, reiterated the issue with the hibachi (which, again we didnt care about) and got us refills.
It was disappointing, to say the least.
Equally disappointing was the lack of food coming from the kitchen. During that wait, I only saw three tables served. Two received full meals, and one got their appetizer.
Each of us got two rolls, one premium and one classic, which are about half the price of a premium.
The food was good with the exception of my Tour Bus (shown in the picture on the left), but my primary issue with it was the tiny size and that the steak on it may as well have been non-existent for as much as you could taste it.
As for the rest, we got The Experience and the British Invasion for our premiums and the Japanese Bagel, Spicy Tuna, and Spicy Shrimp (shown on the right) for our Classics. All of them were good, but I highly recommend the Japanese Bagel. The simplicity of smoked salmon and cream cheese in sushi rice was very enjoyable.
Last, there was the price. We are accustomed to eating at Wasabi 54. It's much closer to our house, we enjoy the atmosphere, and most of their sushi rolls are half price when dining in. That means that we typically pay for a premium roll what we paid for the classic rolls at RnRS. This amounted to an increase of more than $25 over what we typically pay for a sushi dinner.
As I said, the food was good, but the poor service, slow kitchen, added drive time, and high prices compared to other offerings in town make it very unlikely we...
Read moreI really tried to like this place.
I was one of the first in line at their grand opening and I've eaten there several times since due to coupons I received. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, service is always great.
But the food is... Okay? Or it was when it opened. First time we went I was shocked by the prices. Cheapest sushi rolls being close to $10 is a bit high, and the vast majority being $13 or over is tough. Especially considering their rice is often over or undercooked. Their fried rice is pretty bland and flavorless and can't stand up to even most Chinese buffets, and the last time we went their white rice was so overcooked it was a congealed blob in the shape of the scoop they'd served it with. Fried apps are decent, headbanger shrimp are good (just their version of bang bang shrimp).
The place is impeccably cleaned and again staff are always friendly and awesome but it is LOUD most of the time between the music and smaller dining area, with flashing lights going constantly. Take it with a grain of salt since I'm autistic but it's bit much.
Last time I went bill was close to $70 for two people, two sushi rolls, two appetizers, and a single plate of hibachi with a water. Hibachi rice was inedible and I ended up not eating my roll because the salmon had a sour and funky taste to it.
Maybe they can turn it around, but at the moment I won't be back...
Read moreMy husband and I came in on Saturday night. Positive notes were that our waitress was great, we loved the atmosphere. I see some reviews complaining about the noise, but what do you expect out of a place called “rock n roll sushi”, quiet classical music? lol it wasn’t too loud for us, it was a good volume.
Food wise, my husband got his food about 20 mins after we ordered. He got the chicken hibachi. The chicken and veggies were good but the rice was really bland. I ordered one roll of sushi and it took over 45 minutes to receive it. For our troubles we were given a coupon for free appetizer with purchase of an entree, but considering how long we waited, it felt kind of like a slap in the face. It gave the impression of “Please come back and risk waiting another 45 minutes for your sushi, but here’s a free appetizer while you wait.” I appreciate the effort to give something, but if I’m waiting 45 mins for one roll of sushi, I’d prefer half off my roll at least because that’s what I care about then and now. A free app coupon isn’t motivating enough to try dining in again when weighing the risk and benefit. The roll was great when I...
