We've been coming to Pacific Grove for years and years and we have been to Toasties several times in the past but this time the food was awful. Usually there is a lot of people waiting for a seat but we had no problem getting a table. The coffee tasted like water with coffee flavoring and my eggs were cold, my sausage was burnt and my French toast was mushy and lacked flavor and I don't understand why I would have to pay an additional $2.25 for real maple syrup. The overly artificially sweet waitress didn't even ask me if I wanted to get real maple syrup but what they gave me was beyond crappy and not good. My friend's food was also bad. Cold eggs and burnt potatoes and overcooked sausages and he asked for no butter on his toast and his toast was covered in butter. Toasties used to be really good but lately it has been really lacking. I have never posted a review before but this time the food was too horrible not to mention and how hard is it on make a decent cup of coffee? Not water that tastes like water with some coffee flavoring. It's like someone forgot to add the correct amount of coffee to the coffee maker. It was horrible but at least the overly artificially sweet waitress took the coffee off of our bill but everything was really subpar and bad tasting and poor quality and service and you shouldn't be charging people $2.25 for real maple syrup. That's just ridiculous. Toasties used to be really good now it's terrible and that's a shame and they really need to have people who work there do a lot better of a job. Usually there is a lady who works there and I always see her just sitting around and has a bad attitude and then I guess she's the manager but she wasn't there this Saturday for breakfast just the bad waitress who was overly artificially sweet and annoying . Didn't even tell us the specials or anything. I don't know what happened to Toasties but seriously the service and food really leaves a bad taste and Toasties used to be really good....
Read moreThe food, atmosphere and overall place is great! We did have a few problems with one waitress there.
Since we sat close to the kitchen, you could hear her cussing in spanish. I understand that many of the customers there are not spanish speakers, but to me it's just was not right since I understood the language.
The other issue we had took place as we were gonna pay the check. As we were a 4 people in the group we did not know we were going to have to tell them in advanced that we were each going to pay separately.
When our time came to pay the check, the gentelman that was helping us out went to get assistance from this waitress and she seemed like very upset. She says very loudly, "They should have told us at the beginning!" And continued to roll her eyes. She went ahead and split the bill but was being a bit rude to the gentelman that was attending us telling him once again that we should have told them since the start that we were gonna split our bill. Our experience there was okay and we would definitely return but I hope there is a better level of professionalism. Not only does she lack professionalism towards the customers, but the employees...
Read moreIf you're coming for good food, good choice. It's not bad at all and surprisingly, my Spinach, Mushroom and Jack omelette was filling for its size. As my diet doesn't let me enjoy traditional hot cakes, I gave those to my friend who joined me in trying this place out.
But here's why I couldn't give it the full five:
Service - Service is pleasant, don't get me wrong. But it was one person trying to do their best with the whole place. So unfortunately, some items were forgotten (my friend's toast got delayed cause he asked to swap his hash browns for French fries).
On that note, sometimes I watched the waitress approach a table, watch for a couple of seconds and then leave. Perhaps to be mindful of customers seemingly busy, but this happened to my table and we were hoping for some answers on the toast, heh.
That and no refills on our drinks during our meal, just before our order was taken.
Menu - If my friend's toast issue is anything to go by, substitutions can make things finicky. Additions are pricy ($1.95 for some avocado, a side of ham or sausage comes at about ~$5).
In short -- it'll do in a pinch but not my...
