Where to start? Let's see.... Food: Ordered shirimp tempura for appetizer. You eat shirimp tempura for the crunch texture followed by the thick and soft texture of the shrimp. But those shrimps were too thin they were like tooth picks. I think they sliced the shrimp into three pieces, and used the center one with the tail for shrimp tempura, and other slices on the sushi. The rice of the sushi was too soggy. Almost felt like poridge. I'm pretty sure the person who cooked and made the sushi was not Asian, let alone Japanese, because no Asian would like rice like that... not even for regular, normal rice, let alone such rice. The slices of fish and shrimps on the sushi were too thin. Couldn't tell their freshness due to the thickness (or rather, thinness). The washabi was not spicy... it had a hint of spiciness, but its spiciness is not even close to that of washbi you would usually have. I don't know how it was not spicy enough like that... maybe they used the powdered one? The soy sauce was like water. It's dark brown, and has a hint of soy sauce taste, but not salty, not soy-sauce-y enough. When you dip a tempura or sushi roll in a soy sauce, you subconsciously expect the taste of soy sauce on your taste buds, but when what you taste is not even close to that, you are confused.... you almost feel like your brain is destryed. I'm wondering how this restaurant could manage everything in such disastrous conditions all at once. I later told my niece about this and she said how a sushi roll can be bad.... Exactly.... Somehow, they accomplished it! To match with the food, there were a group of 4-5 young women, seemingly in their early to mid 20s, who were constantly talking loudly (sometimes, almost shouting), laughing.... Since the room was so small that there were only 4 - 5 tables (each for 2 - 4 people), though they were not next to us, their noise was unbearable. To make things worse, the small room echoed and amplified their noise. I had to ask the server to ask them to lower their voice, and her response was "OK". And that was it. I don't know if she asked them to be more considerate to other cusomers. That's because they were behind me, and my company in front of me couldn't tell. He didn't see the server approaching them, but it's not like he was constantly wantching them. However, judging from the fact that they didn't lower their voice or laughter, not even a moment, I'm pretty sure the server didn't do anything about it. My request was conveniently ignored and as a result, we couldn't stay there long... Good that there were not much to enjoy and to...
Read moreAn unassuming location for good sushi. This restaurant is a great little spot for quality sushi with excellent service. Although this place is small, they manage to provide efficient and attentive service to more guests than it seems possible. I came here with my wife and two kids a little after 5:30pm on a weeknight. The place was already busy but there were a couple of tables left so we did not have to wait. There were a few seats at the sushi bar as well. But shortly after we were seated, new customers kept coming in and a small wait list was starting. My wife and I both opted for the sushi dinner with an assorted 7 pieces of nigiri along with our choice of a Maki Roll; there were many to choose from it was tough to decide. I narrowed my choice down to the salmon skin roll, and it was great. The meal came with soup and salad as well. We also started with an order of the fried calamari. My kids ordered a few different cut rolls. Everything was very good and the service was wonderful. Between the three servers they made sure we had everything we needed and promptly cleared our table of any unwanted dishes. Overall this was a very pleasant dinner experience and I would highly recommend this place if you’re...
Read moreWe went there on a weeknight and though the small restaurant was not crowded, the two of us have to wait around 20 minutes for our order of rainbow rolls. Though the service was very friendly, it doesn't overcome the need to wait when the restaurant was not busy!
Now, about the food... For some reason, overly sweet teriyaki sauce was poured over our large sushi rolls, making the experience more like eating candies! In other restaurants, the teriyaki sauce was lightly brushed on while it appeared they either poured or spooned large amount into our sushi rolls.
Then, the rolls themselves were loosely wrapped or the rice over cooked with too much water because the rolls were very mushy. While the prices for the rolls were reasonable, I'd rather pay more for a decent, more traditional Japanese sushi meal! We could not stop comparing what we were eating with the same items from the far superior iki riki in Seaside or Crystal Fish down the road!
My partner couldn't finish her roll and we quickly paid and left, we would not be going back there again; there are many other much better Japanese...
