J&J Seafood and Chicken — Restaurant in Palatka

Listen up, fried chicken fans. Don't underestimate a place just because it's attached to a gas station. This was hands-down, some seriously good clean chicken quality.

On a rainy Tuesday afternoon after grocery shopping, my husband was feeling peckish (ha!) for some local fried chicken that's not from a fast food chain so I found this place on Google and the reviews were overall positive so we decided to give it a chance.

We used the drive thru, and there was only 1 car ahead of us. My husband ordered the 10 pc. chicken tender fries combo and a Philly cheesesteak. Between ordering and receiving the food, it took about 10 minutes since it looked like they made the order fresh (no heat lamp trays from what we could see from the drive thru windows). Order cost around $33 with tip.

The aluminum foil covered tray we received from the drive-thru was huge, so we almost thought we got the wrong order until we got home, and I opened it. Check the photos to see how large the chicken tenders are.

What was a tiny bit of a letdown was the size of the Philly cheesesteak since we're used to larger hoagie type sandwiches. What it lacked in size, it made up with an interesting flavor. My husband said it was OK and a bit on the salty side since he's from NYC / PA, which has winning Philly cheeses, but I told him what did he expect getting this type of sandwich from a chicken place in Florida 🤔 (no offense, just think of it like ordering pizza from a diner)

Back to the fries from the chicken tender order, holy potato! The amount of crinkle fries alone could be a meal or two for someone!

Anyway, it's definitely a great place if you want the best bang for your buck. Just don't expect your order super quick since it seems each order is cooked individually vs. typical mass production for fast food places.

Since we brought the food home before eating it, it did get soggy, so reheating in the oven was a must. As with most fried food, it's better eaten fresh! We'd go back to try...

Me and family use to come here every single week to eat. But that has stopped, last week we went in there our total was 51 dollars after walking out we realized our card was overcharged and 51 came out 2 times. We went back in , the owner couldn’t do anything because it was still “ pending “ in our account. The next day , it stopped pending and posted to the account, we called him “ he wasn’t there “ after he told us the day before if the bank couldn’t give us the money back come back the next day that HE WOULD BE THERE. We called at least 4-5 times, and every time he just happened to “ not be there “ Now it is under review with OUR bank & no telling how long or what is gonna happen next. We left our number with the employees that answered to have him call us and never once did we receive a call from him! The food is good , but when it comes to something like this VERY BAD BUSINESS. If they clean up the dinning room table and kitchen it would be even better the people were nice food was good and price was fair but it was a concern if it was safe to eat there .I wish them luck and I hope you are not offend by my personal evaluation and take it as constructive criticism.its hard to be an owner and spend the money and time to do things better as a independent owner Opperator but if ya don't people will stop coming.get better Artis in the local to decorate the store most was not worthy to be there the type of art was fine but a better quality of the product is what is needed for real sales to help of set cost for the space and to enhance the over all look and feel .again not saying it's a bad place .I am saying it needs a lot of work and cleaning and rethinking moving forward for a better chance of growing and becoming the best you can be .good luck good bless and keep doing the...
