Salsas Cocina Palatka — Restaurant in Palatka

I went here yesterday for a friend’s birthday. The food isn’t anything to write home about. There are a couple of family owned Mexican restaurants in and around Palatka that are way better. There were 6 of us and two sets of couples at other tables so they were not busy in the slightest. There were at least 6 employees running around at the time that we could see, with more in the back. Our server, Katie, was polite, but seemed to really lack in the service department.

The last person showed up for our group about 15 minutes late and Katie was nowhere to be found to take his drink order, plus by this time we were all ready to order our food. I had ordered a jalapeño margarita and watched it sit on the bar ready for 10 minutes…still no Katie. Then I decided to go retrieve my own drink from the bar. I sat back down and waited. Finally I asked another young lady if she could grab our waitress so we could order. She said she would take our order for us (I don’t know her name but we made sure to tip her separately).

Our food came and then we finally see Katie again as she brought our last party member his water and set it down on the opposite side of the table from where he is sitting. She said if we need anything then just ask for her. I explained we did ask for her. She said she was in the back filling a $180 to-go order. Why would the waitresses be filling to-go orders? There were 3 employees around the hostess podium the whole time we were there, and there were others elsewhere in the restaurant. Remember, there was our table of 6 and two more tables of 2. They were not even remotely busy.

Finally it comes time to get our checks and she passes them to each individual, except for mine which she sets on the empty table next to us and I had to ask the friend on the end to hand it to me. We put our cards or cash in the little folder and wait. Then wait some more. Finally she comes back and takes the payments. When bringing them back she sets them on the empty table on the other side of our table this time, so we had to dole them out to each other. Weird…

I don’t normally write bad reviews and I am a big tipper that usually tips 25% - 50% or more. I usually only tip 20% if the service was mediocre. In this case, I felt 10% was more appropriate in this case. I feel that a good portion of the staff needs retrained, including Katie. I likely will never go back...

One of the few five stars I've ever given! This is way above the normal fair in cuisine in the palatka area. The food is an extravaganza of flavor presentation and truly scrumptious do not miss out on this place! The location has a full bar for those that want to indulge. It's almost hard to miss It's located on highway 19 across the street from krystal Burger in palatka next to the Lowe's just before it. it's well staffed with trained servers that see to it that you are comfortable and informed on their menu items. I started off with the habanero mango shrimp ceviche it was truly a party of flavors in your mouth not too spicy but delicious, tropical, refreshing and big enough for the whole table not just a small appetizer for an individual. We also had an enchilada plate that had chicken beef and it was delicious well prepared lots of melted cheese and delicious red salsa. I had the three amigos it had steak marinated as well as chicken breast marinated with shrimp a hefty plate suited for more than one though I have a healthy appetite I could not finish it. The chips and salsa complimentary that came with the dinner were superb while there I saw the marinated pork come to a table in a half pineapple The customer was raving about how good it tasted and it looked fabulous! I saw them deliver to another table the burrito supreme and omg! I would say it would feed two people amply for one it's definitely a take home portion. The fajitas looked delicious at another table. I have to come back just to try some of the things I saw little yet what still remains on the menu! You will not be disappointed at this place our server was very considerate and explained all the dishes that we saw trust me this is a staple for me now Good luck to all the come and try it. We have been here several times and we have enjoyed it . It’s a new place in town we knew that it would take them a few to get settled and start putting out quality. For whatever reason tonight they decided that good customer service was not a choice for them. We ordered our food like normal and one of our friends who was a first timer got his food with things he clearly stated he didn’t want . The menu had said items as an option which leads you to believe if you don’t ask for them you won’t get them. So we let the waitress know about the problem she quickly removes food from the table to get it corrected. This is what I expected as a paying customer. But what happens next is why we will never come back to this restaurant or recommend it to anybody ever again. The manager proceeds to come to our table right off the top said That she is not gonna tolerate us returning The food back. Baffled at her statement asked her if the food was free or are we still paying customers. At this point this manager is standing at our table making the biggest scene over a $11 taco salad.She continues her distasteful communication with us. It got to the point that it was so embarrassing that the whole restaurant was stop and looking at the whole interaction go down. For whatever reason she felt like she was in the right And completely forgot that we were paying customers. After about five minutes Of her belligerent negligent attitude she finally storms away from the table Leaving us There with a stun look on our face in the whole restaurant still looking at us. At this time we just wanted to all leave but we couldn’t because nobody would bring us the checks. Once the checks Were brought to us the waiter stood by her table until we handed over our card which further the embarrassment and humiliation. I know we are supposed to support local businesses but this one that Should not get...
