I’m a huge fan of Cafe Rio, but something is wrong at this location. Most concerning was the rude way we were treated by the manager when we were over charged. Many of employees appeared to be new, and they served my in-laws and wife the large dressing with the tostadas we ordered (x3). Normally the tostada comes with the smaller dressing. After we sat down we realized we’d been overcharged $3. My wife and I spoke to the manager and the manager asked the employee if we requested the larger dressing, to which the employee responded no. The manager then scolded the employee right in front of us, which made me feel bad for the employee because they made an honest mistake. At this point I assume the manager will either refund us $3 or offer us something like a pair of sodas or dessert. Instead the manager asks us to bring the dressings back, but by now they are poured onto our in-laws tostadas. The manager says we need to return the large dressings, which at this point is now impossible. I see from the managers facial expression that we can return the poured out dressing, get into an argument, or walk away. Since the dressing wasn’t returnable, and I don’t want to ruin my day arguing with a manager, we just walked away, my time with my family is more valuable than $3. Unfortunately things didn’t end there.
The shredded chicken and pork were devoid of flavor, almost like the cook was leaving the seasoning out or something. Everyone at the table universally agreed the meat is more bland than usual. A few moments later the cashier walks by, I smiled at them because none of this is their fault. They don’t return the friendly gesture and appear to be miserable. I feel bad for them.
My conclusion is this location suffers from a grumpy manager who demeans employees in front of customers and the cook is rebelling against the tyranny by not seasoning the meat. It’s a shame, I love cafe Rio, but I won’t be returning to...
Read moreAfter suffering a crushing personal loss my husband drove me all the way from LA to the nearest Cafe Rio for some comfort food.
I grew up in Utah when Cafe Rio first started, and I can still recall the delicious sauce smothering cheesy, comforting delicious tortillas and meat.
But this time, the girl at the front of the line had an axe to grind.
She gleefully ignored my basic requests. She used her creepy long fingers to delicately taunt me with two shreds of cheese.
She smirked when I asked for the standard amount of cheese for an enchilada, and tossed my food onto the conveyor belt like a frisbee.
My husband said she had a 'quiet smile' while ignoring requests for enchilada style for his burrito. Again, long creepy fingers pretending to add ingredients. Smiling, smirking, very quiet..
She's wouldn't respond when I tried to get her attention. Just kept blithely smirking.
When I reached the cashier I was so insulted at the food I was given.
An enchilada without cheese isn't really an enchilada. A burrito 'enchilada style' isn't such without cheese.
She just smiled and smiled.
But when people who looked like her were behind us, well, my my my, they received much different service.
I was so upset I asked to speak to a manager. She was actually lovely. She offered to remake my food, but I was so upset I was shaking. I just wanted to get out of there and I accepted a soft drink as compensation.
I just wanted what I expected, and what everyone else was getting.
I hope the girl in line has someone close to her die and gets the same treatment she gave me for no...
Read moreThe staff was incredibly rude and argumentative and nobody else in there was treated this way, they didn’t even greet us as we walked in. We were ordering a chicken burrito and the lady making it didn’t ask if we wanted anything else in the burrito, she just asked if we wanted it enchilada style and then when we told her we wanted pico and sour cream in it she said we didn’t tell her even though it had been repeated twice. Then she started to argue about how she should have been told even though she never asked if we wanted anything else inside the burrito anyway. She proceeds to keep making smart remarks which in turn made my partner argue back because she was being super rude and when my partner told her to just stop talking to her she kept making it a point to say things, including speaking under her breath and talking about us in Spanish even though she didn’t know we understood Spanish. When it was time to check out my partner said that they needed to get a manager to work with the girl making the burrito because her attitude is terrible and the cashier sarcastically said aww sorry… then immediately walks away, I asked for my receipt and she came back with an attitude and just pointed at where it would be and I said I would be calling corporate. They proceeded to laugh on the way out still talking crazy. The area they were making the burritos in also wasn’t too clean and all of the sauces had a film on them from them sitting for a while. I will definitely NOT EVER return to this...
