We visited this place on May 2 for an early dinner.
Covid protocols were all appropriate.
The really neat thing about this place is the atmosphere. You can hear the roar of the woks in the back and they have a window covered otherwise open kitchen where you can watch food being prepared in the general bustle that is a restaurant kitchen.
We went in and had several courses to include the hot and sour soup, vegetable tofu soup, roasted duck, and the vegetable lo mein. The soups were really good and we especially liked that in the hot and sour soup they floated some fresh green onions. The roasted duck dish would certainly serve as a signature item from their menu and I was not disappointed in the slightest with how that dish came out.
Vegetable lo mein on the other hand came out of the kitchen really wrong. Firstly it was not a very attractive dish which I think is largely due to the fact that the cooks forgot two of the five ingredients and made their own substitutions. That dish according to their menu, has noodles, broccoli, carrots, Bok choy, cabbage, and bean sprouts. What actually showed up was a plate of noodles with peas, cabbage, mushrooms, and a little bit of bok choy. It was entirely the wrong dish and we have no idea how so many errors could’ve been made and how this dish was so far from the menu.
We brought up the fact that we didn’t have broccoli with the server and he did go and get us some steamed broccoli to add to the dish. However, the server also told us that we were simply wrong about the dish having the vegetables that it was supposed to in it. He actually went and grabbed a menu to double check before he was willing to do anything about our comments. Given this level of error I would’ve expected either a discounted meal or the dish to be remade, neither of these things happened. This was kind of mind-blowingly bad given the typical prices one has to pay in Las Vegas on the strip.
Except for the noodle dish, everything was quite good. My advice to anyone who goes there would be to simply avoid the noodle dishes all together; however, this is really bizarre given the name of the restaurant. Because of this I cannot honestly say that I would recommend anybody to go there. There are a ton of great restaurants at the MGM and next time I would simply pick a...
Read moreAWFUL SERVICE! If you have disabilites surrounding food items this place doesn't want your service. This place has left me feeling truly shocked. This is the first time in my entire life I've ever been denied any sort of accommodation for my shellfish allergy - let me explain. I know how tough it can be to accommodate an allergy so when I go to reasturants I never order deep fried food or anything that seems difficult to avoid cross contamination. I also don't usually expect smaller shops with limited items to accommodate me, therefor I will avoid it if I don't think I can eat there. I'm from south Louisiana so you can already imagine the kind of life I live with my allergy. When you dine at a fancy reasturant where the food is 30+ then I usually ask the waitor if they can note my allergy for the chef to avoid cross contamination and ill order something non deep fried, and non shell fish included. Yall gotta keep in mind how understanding I am when I comes to this. I ordered a stir fried beef dish and mapo tofu. The waiter didn't even take me serious at first so I repeated my allergy and then he switched his tone up and started telling me things like that they use the shrimp oil from the fryer to put oil in the woks to stir fry each dish and so no matter what I got it'd be contaminated. I was a little confused because I've never heard of a FINE reasturant re using oil from the deep fryer and scooping it into the woks. Anyway I asked if they could maybe use oil not from the fryer and a clean wok to stir fry and he didn't even go to the kitchen to ask. He was 100% instant they would put SHRIMP OIL in my food. That's what he continued to say - oh nope because no matter what they will put shrimp oil in it. Maybe I'm going crazy bc this is the first time I've ever heard of this. I told him okay then I guess I can't eat here because there's nothing I can eat without shrimp oil being put into it. He replied to me that I could order a soup... If I wanted a soup I would go to a pho or soup place. I obviously wanted some wok stir fried dishes. I said no thank you and got up and left. This situation has left me so upset that he didn't even bother to ask a manager or chef that I won't ever be staying at the grand again if this is the sort of accommodation they offer in...
Read moreHonestly it was terrible. 4 of us went. Nobody liked their food. We all ordered separate things. Friend ordered the Mongolian Beef, it was just ok. Friends wife ordered the duck. It was not good. I've had duck before. I like duck. This was a big let down. I ordered the Hong King noodles..it was very bland. The real kicker was my wife ordered the Szechuan chicken, no joke it was one of the worst dishes I've ever had. Everyone tried a bite and everyone hated it. My buddy, who eats everything and anything, ate half of a piece and spit it out. The flavor was pure oil that coated your mouth and instantly made your tounge and mouth numb. It was nasty. My wife hadn't touched her meal, it was very obvious. Instead of the waiter asking if everything was ok, he ignored us, knowing we were going to complain or atleast ask for something different. (By the way we didn't complain. We are a very private group) had he come over to us to ask, we might have said something. But he literally avoided us. I was going to ask for something else, but we had a show to get to and I didn't want the hassle. But we shouldn't have to bring it up, when it was Bluntly obvious my wife didn't like her food. She ate mine. Oh... and another thing!! All meals didn't even come with rice. But the waiter asked us if we wanted rice like it was part of the meal. "Do you want white rice or brown?" Then we find out the rice was $5 a bowl! And it's a literall cup, as in measured cup of rice. I've never known a cup of plain white rice to cost $5. What makes it more ridiculous is each meal/plate was around $30-40. What do you mean I have a $35 plate at an Asian restaurant that doesn't come with rice?
Avoid this place. Not worth the 80-100 a couple for better food you can get at any other Asian restaurant for 1/3 of the price and actually...
