Considering the price, this is well worth the annoyances for me. For some, the annoyances may be a no-go though. The location is great, it is directly behind the Tropicana, so a block to any of the MGM grand things (Luxor, MGM Grand, Excalibur). This was perfect for us because we could simply walk to the stuff we wanted to do (Luxor and Excaliber shows). Also walking distance to Southern shops like Hersheys, M&M and Coke. And having free parking was a huge plus.
The room we stayed in was newly remodeled and was actually pretty nice and clean. It was a 2 bedroom, two bathroom suite with a full kitchen (utensils and cooking equipment supplied). You could tell that a few of the repairs were recent and they did a decent job, not awesome, but good. Nice to have a table to eat at and the beds were surprisingly comfortable. There is a heated pool and hot tub and a nice lobby that has a pool table, a bar and a grill for some food options.
We had a room that bordered Reno Street, it was very noisy with both the traffic and noise from other rooms. Not well insulated at all. I thought this would be an issue, but we did not have noisy neighbors and, somehow, the traffic did not hamper sleeping at all (could have been all the excitement of the day though). If you are looking for a quiet room, this would not be a great choice or at least make sure you get an inner room.
Since the building was just opened, we had issues with getting hot water for showers... we could get it, but it required running all the water in the room for about 20 minutes. We felt really guilty wasting that much water, so we just kind of forewent the full hot shower every day. The staff, however, was really great. We called them multiple times about the water and they happily came and got it going again. The manager even sent a gift basket for the trouble. They told us that it was likely the boiler getting the water cycled through the system since the building was only opened about 2 days prior to us checking in... likely will be resolved in a couple of weeks. The other annoyance was that the heater wasn't on. This is not normally an issue, but we happened to stay during an unseasonably cold part of spring... so the combo of no hot shower and no heater was a bit uncomfortable. The last annoyance was that they send you to the concierge after checking in who tries to get you to go "tour their other property in exchange for stuff" AKA, come and listen to our timeshare. Fortunately, it was a quick conversation (like 5 minutes), fairly low pressure, and not required to actually attend the other "tour" to stay at the property. We are not fans of timeshare presentations, but if you are one who enjoys those type of things for free stuff, might be a plus for you. We did not attend, so can't say how long they suck you in for.
Considering the location and the price, this place is definitely worth considering. There are annoyances, but they are small compared to what you get from the value.
Pros: Location, Free Parking, Comfortable Beds, Roomy, Clean, Low Price, heated pool and hot tub, attentive staff, newly remodeled
Cons: Noisy, no free breakfast, possible maintenance issues (might be resolved when/if you stay), they try and get you to do a timeshare...
Read moreThis was my Fiancée and my wonderful treasure in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, as in life, everything changes and so did the Desert Rose Resort. I would rename it the Ghetto Rose Resort Now! If you enjoy a nice resort, pleasant clientele, security for your personal items and your vehicle, then DO NOT GO HERE!
The front lobby, yes looks like as always, but we stayed in the very last building. I noticed right aways the dying shrubbery and plants as compared to the first building. It says smoke free resort, but that doesn't stop the hallways smelling like POT at times in the evening. Our shower, literally, had dirty grout that the both of us noticed immediately.
The both of us noticed immediately, that this was definitely not the same type of guests as usual staying here.
We had a late check out, that they offered and we accepted. However, that didn't stop the cleaning crew and a handy man from trying to enter our room early in the morning on check out day while we were still in it. We even at one point called the front desk to make sure we did have a late check out, which we did.
Now lets get to the straw that broke the camel's back. I expect with a timeshare security! A resort, security! Empathy, even if you have to fake it! Taking our bags to our vehicles, my own Vehicle was vandalized! As was five other cars staying at their resort. Which they found out about it, but decided to wait until we walked out to our vehicles. Do they have camera's? Their answer no! Supposedly they have security patrolling, although, in all the times I've stayed I've never seen security "Patrolling". Their make shift security person, has me write a statement on this simple form titled by another company with no address, phone number, and the resort information no where on the form. The Manager (Maybe that's who it was), DEAN, comes out and is empathetic for two seconds until he realizes we want the damage fixed that day or money / check issued. Then he passive aggressively explained that their cash clientele got refunds, but because we are time share OWNERS we get basically a food/drink voucher and some points back. We tried to explain that my Genesis is vandalized and I have to drive across a state and want compensation. He then goes to offer a list of local places that I can fix at my own expense (Which they were all closed). When my Fiancée went to the desk, the young lady literally smirked at her as she was expressing her frustration. I guess the front desk people think this is funny. Outside talking with this passive aggressive, DEAN, he tells I just need for you to "Acknowledge" that I gave you options. I explained what you need to do is go get me your business card. At one point, he curtly pointed at the sign on the wall that basically says the customer is liable for parking there, etc. etc. They have no cameras supposedly, but they knew a car with young people speed through the parking lot taking time to vandalize their clientele's cars.
Thanks Ghetto Desert Rose Resort for a memorable time. My suggestion, if your are vacationing in Las Vegas, don't trust these people, the employees, or the...
Read moreTLDR: Basically scammed by the hotel by being promised free show tickets for 90 min of our time (they were not very upfront about this requirement either). Turned out show did not actually exist at the time that they promised after we had jumped through all the required hoops. When confronted, refused to make any make amends or compensate us fairly for our time.
Horrible experience that ruined our stay in Las Vegas. Mistakes and misinformation from multiple hotel employees, but what really stuck out to me is the lack of compassion for guests and refusal to make things right.
Upon arrival, we were offered free tickets to a show by the hotel concierge. Wasn't super transparent that we would have to spend 90 min of our time until after the person reeled us in with the free tickets. I guess this is a classic sales technique? Not really expecting this at a hotel where I shouldn't need to have my guard up against these type of things. Really scummy for them to do this but at least they told us about the time commitment eventually. The part that was really deceptive was we were told we would do a tour of some rooms and write a review (it ended up being an uncomfortable sales pitch). In fact, we weren't even told it would be 90min until we asked (at which they replied 60-90min). We were not told until later that this property wasn't even at the hotel we were staying at which made the whole experience even longer than 90min. At this point, we decided to just do it since we'd already picked out a show we were interested in that supposedly matched our schedule even as we slowly realized there were more hoops to jump through than was initially let on.
After taking an uber to the other property (thankfully paid for by the hotel), we soon realized that this was actually a sales pitch to become timeshare owners and that they were trying to sell us ownership. Not what we originally signed up for but fine, we were willing to spend 90 min explaining why we didn't want to buy timeshare ownership. When the 90 min was up, we went to claim the tickets we were promised. The way it works is they write a voucher which you redeem at the box office. When we went to claim it at the box office, they said that the show did not exist at that time. Definitely these people are more concerned about trying to sell you timeshare ownership than making sure that you get what you're promised. This mistake could have and should have been caught at 2 different places but it was not.
We went back to the hotel concierge later that night at which we were told there was nothing they could do at the moment but for us to come back at 10am the next day. We returned at that time the next day only to be told that we had to wait until 12pm for someone to help us. We ended up getting $100 which is much less than the value of the tickets we were promised. Definitely not worth the $100 for this horrible experience and had we known outright there were no shows that worked for us, would have never agreed to participate in this waste of...
