Walked in around the 4:15 PM hour on a Friday driving through town. We weren't overwhelmed by the welcome we received as it appeared the family from the family business was all sitting at a single table enjoying their own dinner, so perhaps we interrupted. Anyway, we were handed our menus and frankly just told to go sit anywhere we wanted in the back while she quickly finished up whatever she was doing at the table.
As we turned the corner to the larger room in the back, from a distance the tables all looked as if they were cleaned and ready for the Friday dinner rush, but as we got closer to them all we could see little bits of crumbs especially in the seats of the chairs as if the tables were only half wiped down from before. We just wiped them off with our hands, I mean we're not too picky it's not like they were overly dirty, but needs to be mentioned since this is a review.
Once seated we were then greeted by chips and salsa, which BTW were pretty excellent. Our drink order was taken and then when she brought them back she took our actual orders. Once she left we realized we had sweet tea instead of unsweetened tea. She never came back to check on us until she brought our actual food out, which was approximately 15 minutes.
She was apologetic once she did return and we told her, and she promptly got us fresh unsweetened tea.
Cheese enchiladas were fantastic. The rice was very moist and fresh, and the beans had a really nice flavor.
My boys each had their street tacos and they really enjoyed them, especially with the green sauce she brought out with them. The meat was very tender and flavorful.
We never really fully felt welcome there, we really do feel like we interrupted their personal time or something because the service just felt a little hasty -- nothing rude in the least bit but wasn't really a great feeling. For example once she took our orders, two guys from the "family table" wearing aprons stood up and kind of glanced at us as they proceeded slowly back to the kitchen area presumably to prepare our meals.
Usually with a family ran business, there's someone there flooding customers with good and welcoming vibes, happy and joyous -- at least one person. This place was, well, pretty dead and uninspiring.
When we paid our ticket at the front, I attempted small talk with the lady who was taking my tender and she just really didn't have anything to say. It really was just very awkward. Even when I spoke Spanish to her to try and maybe break some ice if there was any there, she just continued to conduct the transaction and nothing more. Usually when I start speaking Spanish that throws some folks off because I don't look like I'd speak a lick of Spanish, but I can generally dig up a good conversation when I do that. But again -- dead.
I'm perplexed at other reviews on here raving about the service, and in actuality when looking at this place that's part of what we look at in terms of trying a place out. I'm really curious if the patriarch of the operation wasn't in house or something because I have seen small family places like that have an incredible lively vibe but die off when the patriarch isn't there. Sort of like the old saying -- if the cat is gone the mice come out and play.
Again, food was good -- better than other Mexican we've had in Paris -- but we really didn't care for the vibe of the place and probably will check out another place next time we are going through, which we do several...
Read moreI love the food here. It’s usually always good and hot. Today I had surgery and hadn’t been able to eat since midnight last night. So basically I went like 18/19 hours without food and I was starving. Anyway, I had my husband go get me and the kids some food. Him and I got the pollo azteca dinner that we get all the time. I specifically told them no guac or sour cream. My husband didn’t check it so when he made it with the food we both had a load of sour cream on our stuff. They also did not give him a receipt. When I called up there, they told me they couldn’t write my name down, we would have to bring the food back. I informed the guy that I was in the hospital and he wouldn’t be able to make it back today. He tells me that I need to save the food for whenever I could bring it back, then they would remake it! Totally pissed me off bc I was super hungry. The cheese and bacon toppings were on top of the mountain of sour cream so even when I tried to scrape it off, my toppings came with it. The cheese she bacon is what makes it taste good so without that I just had a straight grilled chicken breast basically. Usually when a place knows they have messed your order up, they write your name down or something for future references. We go here often and spend at least $60-$100 every time we go so I really want happy about that. Not only that when when I scraped the sour cream off, u could still taste it on the meat and I do not eat sour...
Read moreSo the food is typically good and for the most part we get good service but today. Our server, which I wish I would have caught her name, was absolutely rude and awful. I don’t like to complain because I’ve been a server for 8+ years but she was rude about my kid and that’s unacceptable. My daughter is 2 and when we weren’t looking because we also have a 1 year old to tend to, she opened up the pepper and poured it into our chips. Our server comes by and was so appalled at her pouring it over our chips makes a couple of passive aggressive comments and walks off , doesn’t even offer to replace the chips. About 10 minutes go by and she comes back to get our order and still no fresh chips but proceeds to say “wow I can’t believe yall let her do that” along with other passive aggressive comments again… I was so upset at her attitude that I was left speechless I told her we weren’t ready to order and paid for my tea and left. The fact that she was so blatantly rude and kept on about the pepper and I guess was just not going to replace our chips because they were doused with pepper is ridiculous. Especially when you work in customer service. Very disappointed and very...
