Warning long review.. so if wanna skip the read, I'd say just until things change, don't waste your time or money here.
This used to be my absolute favorite diner in Paris. I've been going there fairly regularly for the better part of 25 years. In high school and just after, it was three or four, even five nights a week I was there sometimes more than once a day. I have always counted on them having excellent food, humongous portions, friendly & familiar faces and very, very extraordinary prices. The last few times I've gone the food quality has been somewhat less than superb but still good and still plentiful. Prices had gone up a bit but not tremendously. Tonight though, I put in my usual call in order, one cheese omelette with a side of home fries and western omelet add jalapenos & bacon with a side of sue taters.. and my total was $35 and change. I was charged nearly $8 for a plain cheese omelet! That's what two or three eggs and sliced cheese, two slices of toast, and half a handful of hash browns.. The Western is the same except add some peppers, onions, a little ham, plus my jalapenos and bacon, it was nearly $15.00 all in! I was floored, I know prices have gone up on things but that is ridiculous. Easily more than double what I paid less than 2 months ago. I mean come on really $1.29 to add jalapenos and more shockingly, $4.00 to add bacon to my omelette! I told myself as I left, it's only money, it'll still be good.. but it wasn't, the food was not anywhere close to the quality or quantity that I had grown used to, and still yet, far below even my more recent visits.. I should have realized when I pulled into the parking lot and I was the only customer. There was a time the Sunriser would be bustling even at 1:30 in the morning on a Tuesday.. I've always told anyone that asked, the Sunriser was the place to go. Needless to say I won't be giving that recommendation anymore.. & It'll be a good long while before I go back...
I'm heartbroken, & feel as though I've lost a family member tonight. It truly is a sad day for Paris Texas when you can get a steak at other places for little more than what I paid for an...
Read moreHefty portions, super service, & superb food. Upon entering you see an old school, long, traditional diner-bar w/swivel chairs. Lots of cracks & broken floor tiles in dining area, but very clean. They're cooking on the grill & making coffee right in front of you. Aroma’s tantalizing! Today had the egg & bacon sandwich. Hamburger-sized bun. Lotsa egg & thick, crispy, bacon: 𝑴𝒎𝒎 - 𝑴𝒎𝒎 - cooked to perfection! I salute the cook. Only $5.⁴⁶ for entrée + drink. Great price. 🥓 In back are pool tables-n-video games. Folks eating & playing pool back there. Parking lot's near full. Several patrons in booths & bar. ⏰ The Sunriser's open 24 hrs a day. Lived close by about 1yr. Went weekly for diner salad, lg chicken fried steak-n-baked potato - my favorite meal there. ❌ No WiFi. The restrooms are not wheelchair accessible; too little room for access/egress & maneuvering to toilet. No hand rails. ✅ No longer smells like cigarette smoke. Much more pleasant dining. Enjoyable experience. I...
Read moreIt had a nice atmosphere. We were on the road a long time and looking for a family diner for some pancakes, so it was perfect. They didn't have any chocolate chips to put in the kids pancakes, which I thought was a little strange and the short stack was MASSIVE, but the kids really enjoyed the ham steak. I had the BLT sandwich and it was pretty standard, but the cheese fries were a little strange, as it was just slices of American cheese barely melted on, I'm not sure if that's normal here though, but we usually have melted nacho cheese on them where I'm from. one of each of the kids pancakes were pretty burnt. My husband enjoyed his burger, the sweet tea was really good, the staff was super friendly and I would probably go back if I lived closer. Honestly, the biggest issue I had was how narrow the front of the restaurant is. It was difficult navigating in a place you're unfamiliar with, trying to get two small children inside and also getting over to the...
