It's smallish, but this is such a cute little place! We loved the photo OP with an adorable dumpling just outside the door. The ordering process was annoying. You go to the table and scan a QR code. This brings you to a menu online where you can choose and order. Sounds great. Right? Well, first of all everyone at the table will have to be on the same order. There was no way to split checks doing it this way. Next we had items disappear from the order a few times and we had to go back and re choose the drinks 3 times. Then we finally got everything on the order. After a while a robot brought us our food. It took a couple of times, which was ok. It just came out as it was made. The server brought only 2 drinks, but we thought, ok...it comes out as its made, and these were boba drinks that were not brought out yet. We waited for a while before one in my party went to the counter to ask. She was told that we didnt order those drinks. The girl at the counter had a bit of an attitude about it. So then my friend told us what she said and showed us the receipt they had printed out. We had made sure before we sent the order though and it was a different amount than what we had paid. My husband looked up the charge on our bank and sure enough, it was more than the print out said. He went and showed them. They ended up making the rest of our drinks for us. The food was really good. We had szechuan chicken, bao buns, soup dumplings, pumpkin pancakes, onion pancakes, custard dumplings, pork gyoza, red bean dumplings that had a pig shape, green tea, thai milk boba tea, and a vanilla milk tea with brown sugar boba. We enjoyed all of it. Except my friends thought the gyoza was just average. My chicken was flavorful and crispy in a spicy red pepper sauce, my husband raved about the soup dumplings and wouldn't even share them. The red bean dumplings were adorable, sweet but not too sweet, and the custard dumplings were fantastic! I would definitely go there again. After all of the fuss with the QR code order, we discovered that there is a regular menu and you can just decide and go up to the counter to order. That sounds a lot better. At least until the online glitches are sorted out. *The ONE thing that was not ok is that although our problem with our order was fixed, none of the staff apologized at all. That and the rude attitude the girl at the counter gave to my friend when she was asking about the order is very poor service. I know my friend went up there being nice about it because we were nearby and I heard what she said to the girl. THAT will keep my 2 friends and my husband from going there again, which is a shame since my son and I really enjoyed the food. I will have a little harder time going back, but I really want to give them...
Read moreI'm thrilled to share about a delightful culinary journey I embarked upon recently at the Serious Dumplings | Dim Sum & Bubble Tea restaurant in sunny Boca Raton. One thing is certain, they take their dumplings seriously, and the flavor experience is no joke.
Let's start with the star of the show - the Shang Hai Soup Dumplings. Steamed to perfection, these little parcels of joy had a divine, soup-filled center that was simply intoxicating. The balance between the savory broth and the delicate dough was just sublime, making every bite a revelation.
The Beef Chow Fun was another standout. The beef was tender and well-seasoned, while the wide rice noodles were perfectly cooked, offering a beautiful contrast in texture. Tossed with a smoky sauce that had just the right hit of umami, it was a dish that truly captured the essence of traditional Cantonese cuisine.
Our gastronomic journey continued with the Chicken Dumplings. Delicately handcrafted, these dumplings were a testament to the art of Chinese culinary tradition. The chicken filling was flavorful and tender, encased in a silky smooth wrapper. Each bite was a celebration of harmonious flavors and textures, leaving us longing for more.
And then, there was the Bubble Tea - oh, the Bubble Tea! This was not just any bubble tea; it was a symphony of taste and texture. The tea was fragrant, the sweetness level perfectly balanced, and the boba pearls were chewy and satisfying. With different boba options to choose from, each sip was a delightful surprise.
Moreover, the futuristic dining experience provided by their cool food delivery robot was an unexpected pleasure. It was not only efficient but also added a bit of fun and novelty to the entire experience. This is modern dining at its finest, a seamless blend of technology and culinary artistry.
However, no experience is without room for improvement. We found that the clearing of tables could have been more prompt. There were instances where we were left with dirty dishes longer than desirable, which slightly detracted from the otherwise excellent dining experience.
Another point to note was the choice of paper plates for serving the entrees. While I understand the practicality behind it, the use of paper plates somewhat undercut the ambiance of the restaurant. A change to more durable, eco-friendly options could enhance the dining experience while aligning with a more sustainable approach.
Despite these minor hiccups, our visit to Serious Dumplings | Dim Sum & Bubble Tea was a true culinary delight. The food, the atmosphere, the innovation - it all converged to create an unforgettable dining experience. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a serious affair with...
Read moreSummary: Decent prices, just okay food, very bad organization and atmosphere.
The Food: One positive of the visit was the BBQ pork bun. They were fine, but not great. That said if we want pork bun in the future we will order these for takeout. We were very disappointed in the crab soup dumplings. They were cloyingly sweet and tasted off. They are priced quite inexpensive though so I guess there’s that. Overall the food was fine, not great - given the number of five star “best food ever to die for” reviews I’m wondering if this is an emperors new clothes situation.
Everything else: The biggest issue was cleanliness of tables and the organization of the place.
The busser was clearly not able to keep up with the rate of table turnover and though he was trying his best he was clearly overwhelmed. He was working hard, but clearly another set of hands was needed. Our table was about half wiped down and the walls were covered in sauce. Many tables were left unbussed for more than 10 minutes at a time. I am not sure if this is only a busy night problem (we were there on a Friday), but other reviews seem to suggest it’s not.
The register folks were having an issue with the number of parties waiting. There was no wait when we arrived but it quickly got out of hand. There were about 10-15 parties waiting to sit and/or for take out. Staff were handing out pagers at the register, but there is also a sign that says “skip the line and sit at a table and order”. We watched multiple parties sit down at an open table while others who had waited quite a while stood confused. Combine this with the unbussed tables and the anger and frustration of the waiting folks in this the already crowded spot was palpable. We saw three groups leave in frustration, and the disorganization made for a really unpleasant atmosphere. I did hear multiple folks mention the advertising blast the business has been doing on social media, but it seems like they are not ready for all of the business it generated.
Given the quality of the food, if I had been one of the folks who waited a long time and was passed over I would be even less likely to come back. A good manager on the shift (a human - not a gimmicky robot) could go a really long way in making this better.
Overall this place could be a solid 3 stars if it were run more smoothly. Then again maybe all of the other “best food ever! Cute robot!”...
