Aliberto's Mexican Food — Restaurant in Payson

August 2024 This place is now forever in the favorites category. Wife and I are back on our diet. Keto. We love keto but it can be restrictive. So Mexican food is normally out. But we love Mexican food. Passing through Payson pre holiday weekend we stopped at the grocery store. As we exited, wife called Aliberto's and asked for a huge favor.

Now I'm not saying they have this item or that they will ever do it again. It might not be available for you. But wife asked if they could make a keto tortilla. A tortilla made of only cheese on a griddle. The person answering the phone said she knew what it was but had never made one before but she would try. We drove across street to get our tacos and see if they were successful.

It was either beginner's luck or someone was a pro.

We asked who made the tortilla and the cashier said that she did. I'm calling her a pro. Our tacos were awesome keto tacos. One of the best keto tortilla tacos we ever ate.

The taco in general was awesome. Great carne asada. The quacamole sauce was good. The pico was heavy on the onion... This is a personal preference as I don't like raw onions.

To the manager of Aliberto's in Payson, PUT THIS ON THE MENU! There are plenty of people who want to eat low carb. And give that girl a raise. Only female working on August 29 at 2:30ish. She was awesome catering to our needs. She made two extremely happy customers. We already loved your restaurant but she went above and beyond what she had to!

Honestly if I could give lower for service and atmosphere I would. The lady at the counter was so unbelievably rude, my girlfriend and I went in to pickup a mobile order and when we got to the counter she was completely looking past us. She did not greet us or anything. When I spoke up she was incredibly rude. Our food wasn't ready even though it was supposed to be 10 minutes before we got to the counter. I questioned as much and she yelled back "If I said it's not ready then it's not ready!" I asked her how long it would be and she said 5 minutes. People came in after us and left with fresh orders before we ever got ours. The entire time it felt very hostile in the restaurant. The food was decent. We got 3 rolled tacos, 2 enchilada combos and wild animal fries. The fries were very good honestly, the rolled tacos were very stale and bland. The enchiladas themselves weren't bad but the beans hadn't been seasoned in anyway...

Alibertos is usually really good, but lately we have been ordering something other than burritos and carne asada and 2 out of 3 times it has sucked. Today we ordered the mar y terria parillada(surf and turf platter) and Chicken enchiladas with green sauce. First off we didn't get chicken enchiladas they were regular cheese enchiladas but the cheese inside was still shredded and cold as if straight from the fridge. The surf n turf didn't come with tortillas, the meat was really dry, and there was only the smallest spoonful of beans. This is a disappointment because last time we ordered something different (chicken tacos) the shredded chicken looked like it had been left under the heat lamp for multiple days it was so dry it was inedible. We usually love alibertos and choose it over any other Mexican food joint in town. But if all they can do good is burritos, we might have to choose other places when we want...
