I’d been to the original location a couple of times, but I hadn’t visited this one until last week. I’m writing this review now because I’m dreaming I could order some beef suya right now 😭. I tried the following:
Zobo: it was very tart with some spice, so keep that in mind if you prefer milder drinks. I enjoyed it, personally.
Beef suya: this is my favorite thing from Aria. It comes with jollof on the side, which is nice. The meat is very well seasoned and I love the lean cuts they use, just like proper Naija suya. It comes with chopped red onions mixed in, so let them know if you don’t want that. The portion was perfect and the rice was a nice addition.
Ayamase: this is my favorite type of stew, so I may be biased. It came with a lot of meat and a boiled egg! I’ve been to other restaurants where they won’t give you a boiled egg with your designer stew (a personal affront imo). The stew was perfectly seasoned and of course, comes with plantain and rice. I will say it is quite spicy, so have something to drink on hand.
And lastly, yam fries: I like these as an appetizer. They come perfectly fried (crispy on the outside and soft and warm inside) and with a dipping stew. The dip is very spicy, so let them know if you want something milder. These are best eaten in the restaurant.
Honorable mention for the interior. Just like the original Aria, the interior is stylish and comfortable; a great place for a date. I love seeing elevated representations of African countries, and...
Read moreWas really excited to try this place. Finally something new and fun in Pearland. We went for my husbands birthday. The modern decor was really nice. We were the only people in The restaurant but the service was so slow. I wanted an appetizer but we waited so long before the waitress finally greeted us and took our order, that we skipped right to ordering the meal. My husband's ox tail was excellent but my spicy goat was way too spicy. My mouth was on fire from the first bite. I usually pride myself on my ability to handle spicy food and I've traveled all over Asia with no issue and I put hot sauce on everything but this was way too much. I think they made a mistake and this was way over spiced. Another couple walked In got seated , ordered and out the door right away with a to go bag all while we were waiting for our waitress, she never checked on us and I desperately needed water refills ( I downed both our drinks including all the ice ) . We had to go back up and ask for the check and to go box cause I couldn't finish after 3 bites. We ended up walking to the counter and paying because she clearly wasn't going to bring us a check. Her demeanor wasn't welcoming and she never asked if we enjoyed the meal or anything we just paid and left. It must have been a bad night or something because the other reviews are good. Unfortunately it's enough that we won't be going back, beware with...
Read moreCame over today to try them out. As I was craving suya. Upon arriving, I asked for a menu however they said they had zero menu and everything must be done by a QR scan code for menu. What if I dont have a phone or I forgot it and I just want to try something new. It was just a bit out of touch to the guest for me, as this was the one day I left my phone at home. Granted, she offered to read the menu out loud to me. But come on.. at least have 1 paper menu somewhere as a back up. The beef suya tasted a bit odd but only at the back of my palette with a semi-suya spice on a gyro meat sliced super thin. The meat used for the suya today was the same kind folks use for gyro. The jollof rice however was great. Loved the flavor. Same with the meat pie. Delicious. The customer service was good and the atmosphere clean and well kept. Just wasn't a fan of the suya and not having a menu. I know most restaurants are going digital, but they also have a paper menu somewhere just incase elderly folks or non tech savvy people come in. I rarely do reviews but pls pls have at least 1 paper menu available. Ladies in the front were great.
Overall, 3...
