I stopped in for a quick pickup to satisfy my kolache craving and support a local business.
When I walked in I was greeted very politely by the two staff members neither counter. I knew exactly what I wanted, so I stepped up and ordered right away. I warned them that it would be quite a few kolaches for one person and I started ordering.
I ordered a kiolbassa, jalapeño and cheese, a brisket, egg, jalapeño and cheese, a venison, jalapeño and cheese, an egg, spinach and cheese and a blueberry kolache. I was hoping to order a boudin kolache as well but I was informed that they were not available until Friday and the weekend. No worries there as I had plenty to sample.
First, I tried the kiolbassa, jalapeño, cheese and it was really good. It was definitely in my top two in the area and a solid start.
Next, I dug into the brisket, egg, cheese and jalapeño kolache. That combination in a kolache is 🔥🔥🔥! If I didn’t eat anything else from this shop, I would leave completely satisfied. That’s how good it was! The smoked brisket aroma smacked me and dazzled my senses immediately when I pulled the kolache apart to look inside. I had no choice but to eat it on the spot. The smoked brisket took this kolache to the next level. Combined with the egg, cheese and jalapeño. This was like eating a breakfast taco, barbecue and kolache at the same time. Such a winning combination. Definitely the star of the show!
Next I was excited to try the venison, cheese and jalapeño kolache. I like the taste of venison and this was no exception. Although hard to follow the brisket kolache, the venison held its own and made a strong showing. I enjoyed the texture of the venison sausage itself. I was surprised to see venison on the menu but was not disappointed in the flavor of this kolache.
After those three strong contenders, I will admit I was a bit skeptical about the spinach, egg and cheese kolache. I love spinach and eggs but it was going to be hard to follow the three I had just ate. Boy, was I wrong! As I started to eat it, this kolache rapidly ascended to the second best kolache I ordered after the brisket kolache. I just did not expect so much flavor to be packed into spinach, egg and cheese. What a pleasant surprise! I wanted another one!
Finally, with a quickly filling belly, I could only eat half of the blueberry kolache but it was superb. I feel sometimes it’s a challenge to get blueberry flavored food correct but this kolache was a great way to end a delicious and somewhat indulgent breakfast. I’d do it again!
I’ll be back on Friday to try the boudin kolache. I have high hopes and something tells me I will not be disappointed. Overall, the shop was very clean and although very small, it felt very welcoming and could become a regular breakfast stop if they keep up this awesome take on kolaches. Another shoutout to them for partnering with and supporting other local Pearland and Houston...
Read moreI've been in Pearland since 1997, and Kolache Shoppe is the top kolache place in town. They offer a variety of delicious options on both of their 'savory' and 'sweet' type of kolaches. I definitely appreciate their creative efforts with themed kolaches; my co-workers and customers loved the Mardi Gras kolaches - savory (boudin) - sweet (king cake). The strawberry & Nutella also received two thumbs up.
I like consider myself an unofficial hospitality critic. I served & tended bar (my side hustle) at various restaurants on and off well into my 40s.
Kolache Shoppe-Pearland has a service culture that is noticeable and should be praised.
Having to drive 6 miles, while passing up 3 or 4 kolache places; is well worth the great food & great service! (shout out to...
Read moreOur family love kolache and we always go to Kolache Factory. Today we gave Kolache Shoppe a try, and wow we all loved our Kolaches more than Kolache Factory. The meat filling to bread ratio was more and tasted so much better than Kolache factory. The bread was soft and lighter. We tried potato/egg/cheese, Brisket/Egg/Cheddar, ChorizoEgg/Cheese, Bacon/Cheese, Kiolbassa & Cheese kolaches. Our favorite kolache was the monthly special: Roostar Texas Banh Bao. It tasted like Vietnamese bánh bao….So flavorful and delicious! It actually tasted better than Vietnamese version because it has more filling and less dough. Customer service was very friendly! Give them a try! This place will be...
